Healthy Snacks That Won't Hinder Your Diet

Can anyone give me some ideas of some healthy snacks that I could eat after dinner that won't hinder my diet? :)

    Fruit, cheese, crackers, I like sorbet if I'm craving something frozen and sweet and can't do ice cream. I've also had cereal and milk as a snack.

    I have had a problem with eating sweets at night and I am trying to choose healthier snacks. :)

    I guess? Without knowing how many calories you tend to have after your dinner it's kind of hard to suggest anything in particular. My cereal and milk clocks in at 280cals, which I usually have room for. YMMV. If you have room for a serving of yogurt go for it.

    Undressed popcorn, not out of s bag, box or microwave. Cook from scratch, light on the oil.

    Snacks? You mean like the ice cream and cake I had today, within my calorie budget, or the chocolate candies I had yesterday within my calorie budget?

    I could suggest hummus with celery sticks. But now that I know such a thing as "snickerdoodle" flavored hummus turns it into crackus, never mind.

    A lot of berries are in season right now so you could have an assortment of fresh berries with or without additional sweet stuff. I usually just eat whatever fruit is in season with a bit of pudding, fruit dip, or chocolate ganache if I want to bump up the sweetness even more and I have room for the calories.

    I have ice cream or chocolate every night. I just make it fit in my calorie allowance. The ice cream might be Halo Top to make it fit, but I always have dessert.

    I love having a bowl of cereal as a snack. Popcorn, edamame, Jello sugar free pudding, if I want sweet treat.

    I drink a cup of apple cinnamon tea or eucalyptus tea - curbs my desire to snack.

    I don't think we can really give you any advice because we can't know how many calories you have left over. 100? 300? It all depends on how many calories you have left over, and what you like to eat. Eat the amount of whatever snack food you like, weigh it to make sure it is within the calories you have left, and eat it.

    Thanks everyone for the great ideas. I most usually stay under my calorie goal,but I like chips and sweets and just felt that it would be better if I ate healthier snacks. I have found that I feel much better physically when I eat healthy snacks. :)

    Same! That Halo Top ice cream is the only thing keeping me sane on my diet! Hahaha!

    I hate to tell you but that is mostly in your brain. Unless you have a specific medical condition to avoid certain foods or macros a snack-sized portion of food can't really do much to make you feel better or worse.

    I am in pretty good health, except high blood pressure, so I do have to watch my salt. I think you are right about it being in my brain, because I feel bad when I eat candy or chips late at night. I feel that I should be eating something healthier. :)

    The other night I had peanut butter (no sugar) with chia seeds and celery sticks. Aside from the chia seeds finding places to tuck in my teeth it was really good. Some almonds and a good mozzarella stick work for me too.

    You can eat anything, really, but my usual snacks are either a protein shake, a protein bar or some fruit. I love to slice a banana in two, smearing peanut butter on it and then I add a drizzle of honey. Delicious!! I also do the same with apples. I love snacking on grapes too!

    Without knowing your calorie / dietary restrictions, if you tend to go for sweets after dinner, you can always switch out something like chocolate for frozen blueberries.

    If you have no dietetic restrictions, snack on whatever you like, as long as it is within your daily calorie budget.

    In the evening, I usually have a small piece of dark chocolate (38-40 calories) and a Fiber One brownie (90 calories)
    My reward for keeping in my calorie budget.

    No snack will hinder your diet if you're in a calorie deficit. As far as healthy goes, it means different things to different people. I generally struggle to meet my protein and iron goal, and while I don't track my fibre, I don't mind giving it a boost every now and again. So my snacks are either weight-out portion of a dry cereal that gives me 30% of my iron RDA or stuff like Simply Protein "chips", veggie dogs, string cheese, or roasted chickpeas. Sometimes, I have a Fibre One bar. I've gradually cut back on stuff like Popcorners chips, Veggie Straws, even popcorn—though I still have it often, just not as much as I used to—because they don't help me hit those targets. Nothing 'bad' about popcorn. If I have 150 calories and I want a largish bowl of something to eat mindlessly while I watch Netflix, great. But I can apply 150 calories (give or take) to a single-serve package of Simply Protein chips, get that much closer to my protein and iron goals, and feel fuller a bit longer. I'd say that in my case, all other things being equal, the protein chips are probably my better choice. That may not hold true for everyone.

    I love some fruit at night. My favorite is strawberries with a little whipped cream. I cant wait for peaches to be in season.

    My night snack is usually either popcorn or ice cream. :) As long as it's in my calorie budget, I enjoy. I refuse to deprive myself of something I enjoy. I just work it in so I can still love what I love and I'm not craving it and telling myself it's "bad" if I have it. No food is bad unless it's gone out of date and spoiled.
