How important are they?

This is my first time trying a "program" that counts calories. So far so good. I stay within my calories everyday, sometimes a little lower. I never eat my burned calories. But at the end of the day, almost everyday I notice that I am always over in my protein (and all my protein options are healthy lean proteins), usually bang on with my fats and always under in my carbs - by like 65+ per day.

How important is that I make sure I consume all those extra carbs and lighten up on the proteins?

Curious why you're not eating your excercise cals or at least a part of them? Unsure what your daily MFP cals are but you do want to keep over the 1200 cals that's the bare minimum you'd want your body to take in. If you work out and your cals drop less than that you, it's best to bring them back up with your workout cals:flowerforyou:

What types of protein are you eating now? That might help us help you in figuring out what changes you might make to lessen them or toss in more carbs etc. to off balance a bit. How are you doing on getting enough carbs in? :)

I have been losing and feeling good and I never get all the carbs and am ALWAYS over on protein
  • My proteins are twice a day and are usually a lean boneless skinless chicken breast, or low fat ham, or extra lean beef, or eggs. I don't eat fish, unless it's tuna.

Carbs scare me. I only eat 2 servings/day max.
  • You get over on protein probably cause your carb/fat/protein ratio is not good - if you're trying to lose weight, decrease the carb and up the protein. You may be eating just what's right for you, but MFP doesn't know that until you change the ratios. You can do that in My Home/Goals. Mine is at 30/30/40 and I CANNOT for the life of me ever reach my minimum protein... so lucky you!
  • Awesome. I will try that! I never knew you could change it!

Carbs are very important for our bodies. Going low carb is not always the healthiest choice. We need carbs to give us energy and keep our blood sugars regulated.... a good balance is best. A carb/protein combo at each meal works well. 5-6 mini meals can help out spreading the food throughout the day to break them up smaller and keep the metabolism boosted.

When I follow MFP i always go over on my protein as well. So like one of the other's mentioned about a 40-30-30 ratio is what i tend to follow too. I also have a book with recipes to follow that plan.
