I think most of us at one time or another have fallen prey to a lose weight quick scheme. I know I have in my past. That is why it feels sooooo good to finally be on the right path, slow and steady. Just eating less, and exercising more and doing it right. Simple, slower, and sane.
Here are a couple things I have tried in my past:
Drinking apple cider vinegar
Putting cayenne pepper on everything
Garcinia Cambogia
The Army diet
Walking around with a solar belt
Master Cleanse

I tried the 5 day juice cleanse. Nothing but juice. I was so proud of the 10lb I lost (at the time not understanding about water weight vs fat loss). Funny how those 5 days were so miserable and felt like a year, but actually doing anything for just 5 days is going to have pretty much 0 impact on your weight.8

Years ago, I used to do the cabbage soup diet. It worked to get weight off because I was at a deficit by eating cabbage soup instead of other things. It is kind of interesting in that there are a couple of days were you can eat a lot of a particular item (bananas one day and oddly enough I think it was lean ground beef on another) but the things you ate leading up to that day tended to make it less appealing. Obviously wasn't sustainable. Lost fairly quickly and then went back to eating like I did before.8

Herbalife. Artichoke capsules. Chinese teas. Phentermine.7

It is kind of hard to say. My mother jumped from fad to fad. I can remember grapefruit and Herbalife. I ate boiled eggs every morning for months for some reason. It took me years to want boiled eggs again.
On my own,
Lowfat
Slimfast
I had brief success with both my longest successful run was with WW but I gained it all back eventually.
I would not call SF or WW fads though. They have been around forever and some people have had success with them.7 -
Remember when low-fat/fat free was the key to losing weight? Yep, I did that.9

I tried a diet called the Sunshine Diet when I was a teenager. It was almost nothing but hamburger and oranges. I think it went like this:
breakfast: orange, 3 oz hamburger patty
lunch: orange, 3 oz hamburger patty
dinner: 3 oz hamburger patty, salad
Of course I lost weight, I was barely eating anything. It was probably around 900 calories a day.
Shockingly I gained it back!3 -
Posts after mine reminded me of others. I can't remember the kind of "tea" now. It was made by buying stuff in bulk at GNC, boil it, strain it and put it in a pitcher. It was the secret sauce that would keep you from being hungry while you ate a reduced calorie diet. I actually think that had a reasonably normal selection of foods but it was regimented; you were supposed to eat specific meals on each day of the week. That lasted maybe 2 weeks.
I have used OTC diet pills in the past.
I have done unstructured crash diets numerous times.2 -
I tried the low/no fat thing and also slim fast. I also tried eating lots of the little frozen diet dinners at the grocery store. Nadda!
About 20 years ago I went on a low carb high protein diet, andvusing real butter and other fats were fine. You were also to drink grapefruit juice before two meals. NO calorie counting at all, eat until full. I dropped weight like a rock! I kept it off for quite a few years, until I hit menopause and developed thyroid disease. Gained 75 pounds and have been struggling to lose it.

I tried the keto fad for almost a year, about 17 years ago. Lost weight, but couldn't see giving up some of my favorite foods forever for no good reason.10

Ayds,
Slim Fast,
Jenny Craig,
What else you got in the last 50 years?1 -
I’ve done many different eating styles over the years but I wouldn’t call them “fads” really because each had its benefits and can be good for some people (south beach, keto, paleo, intermittent fasting)
The one total fad I fell for though was raspberry ketones. I spent over $100 on those darned gummies lol. At least they tasted good3 -
I started it when Atkins was all the big thing. Going to back to many, many years before that, it has been known as the Banting Diet.3 -
Beverly hills diet (one fruit for the whole day)
Nutrisytem
Atkins (i did lose weight but did not stay with it)2 -
Good topic, OP!
I tried the green tea that is supposed to suppress your hunger.... didn’t do anything except lighten my wallet temporarily. Thank goodness it was through a Groupon.
After I lost the weight, I tried CLA supplements for a while to “tone up” the skin. A colleague of mine swore by the CLA supplement - said her flabby skin tightened up really nicely. My husband and I actually tried it together... no benefit for either of us. Not surprised.
I ALMOST tried one of those stupid stomach wrap things from “ItWorks” - but a friend of mine tried it first. Super excited, he and his wife posted “before” photos on FB to document their progress. I never saw any “after” photos, so deduced that it was just another scam.5 -
I have tried Atkins diet, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Military diet but I know with eating healthy and watching my portions, I will succeed and will become a way of life2

I have a Facebook friend that sells ketones. I think it’s a drink. She’s lost a lot of weight, but I don’t believe for a second it would work for me.1 -
Hmm... In high school I did the Special K diet. I think they told you to replace two meals per day with the cereal. I lost weight...it got me into a deficit. But I didn't know why obviously.3
-
I forgot about some of these:) i also did the Slim Fast thing.2
-
And almost bought the raspberry ketones when Dr.Oz had me convinced. Lol3

Some weird plan my mother came up with when I was 13. I wasn't allowed to eat anything "fattening"
The Cambridge Diet
Nutri System
Sugar Busters
Paleo before Cordain even wrote a book
Atkins
Suzanne Somers food combining (what idiocy that was)
Raw Vegan

I was anorexic binge/purge subtype back in the day (was hospitalized in 2002/3) and tried everything from extremely dangerous laxative abuse to the many useless otc diet drugs9
-
AdvoCare...dumped a bunch of money with the "cleanse" and discovered I was allergic...hives and swollen toungue.
Slimfast
21 day fix4 -
Zone diet
Slimfast
Nutrisystem
Weight Watchers (early 80s, then mid-nineties)
Barely legal "diet" pills bought from some guy in my college days (they were probably just caffeine pills)
Crash diet (severely limited calories)
Low fat
Various meal plans found in women's magazines
Hmmmm... what haven't I tried?

I forgot SlimFast! I tried that too.1

In high school in the 80s I begged my mom to buy these fiber diet pills I saw in the back of a magazine. You would just take five pills with a lot of water three times a day and then the next day eat all you wanted. I lost fast on that diet over the summer. When school started I was embarrassed to take the pills at school so I quit and gained back more than I lost. I was so stupid, I could have done the same by eating every other day. Which is also not good for you.
Also did Atkins starting in high school and several times over the past 35 years. Lost it fast and gained it back plus even faster. I will never low carb again.2 -
The idea of a cleanse never spoke to me as a method. I think it is because I have fasted for a day or 2 on occasion for most of my life (not for weight loss... never for weight loss). I couldn't imagine a few other ingredients doing something that didn't happen with water or juice.1

Oh, I didn't mention that. Yeah, I had my years of laxative abuse.4 -
