Low Alcohol Red Wine

Can anybody recommend a decent low alcohol red wine? I found the 0.5% ones to be a bit too much like grape juice. Sainsbury's do an 8% red wine which was pretty good but struggling to find any others. Any ideas?

If it's 8% it's not wine. At best, it's sangria.

There might be something out there for increasing the alcohol content in commercial wine.

Haha, was labelled as red wine. So many seem to be around the 13 - 14.5% margin these days.

Why the need for a low alcohol red wine? I shouldn’t think there would be much difference in calories?

I prefer wine in a chair but if you want to sit in a box go ahead.

Drinking a low alcohol wine would be like smoking a low nicotine cigarette. Vile stuff with the only reason to use it removed.

Actually wine with higher alcohol content would have less calories, since alcohol has less calories per unit of volume than sugar. How -much- of a difference it is I'm not sure lol

Would you drink it in a box?
Would you drink it with a fox?

I love it when an MFP post takes an unexpected turn!

Add water or another mixture to the 8 % you like?

    Or ice.

I'll mix 20% grape juice with kombucha and get back to you with a report. It's a thing somewhere, somewhere I haven't been.

Surely the sensible thing would be to get the strongest wine you can find? ;) You’ll get a buzz from a much smaller quantity, therefore saving yourself from consuming too many calories!

The only way I have found to have a decent red wine that is lower calorie is to make it a spritzer with just a little seltzer. But it's a trade-off, losing the fullness of the flavor.

The only low alcohol wines I can think of are white and sweet (moscato d'asti and the like). They can be very good, but don't seem to be what you're looking for.

Outside of that, you can probably find some reds at 10%-12%. Maybe a lambrusco or beujolais nouveau or something like that. 13% tends to be the floor for the reds that I like (but I admittedly like my wine on the richer side).

I would drink it on the docks
I would drink it with the hawks
I would drink it on the rocks
I would drink it with the jocks
I would drink it in a box
I would drink it with a fox

I will drink red wine with ease
Full strength alcohol if you please
I will drink red wine on evenings brisk
Water it down at your own risk!
