Hey guys! How important is it not to midnight snack?? Im trying to lose more weight (cut) i lift weights 4 x a week and do cardio 5x a week, stay active in the job i do on my feet full time and try to stay active outside of work as well
177-178 5 10 and have a decent frame to build on but im trying to cut to 170 flat! My issue is i will eat 1700-1800 cals through the day but when i wake up at 2 am like clock work i eat 200-300, now keep in mind these are all healthy snacks, protein bar, ect but im guilty as charged, i did lose weight last year when i dropped 30 lbs snacking at night too but now i feel like because im in the last final stages of cutting weight that this is hindering me more than helping me. I do log and count all my calories and would say i am as accurate up to 5% due to late night snacking im not fully a wake but remember grabbing the snack and i go back and check in the morning by counting what i had the night before!

In itself, what you call things, has little importance. When you eat, has in itself little importance. But you're not describing late night snacking or midnight snacking, but waking up in the middle of the night to eat, justifying eating by calling it a healthy snack, and then go on to plead yourself guilty as of some crime.
Waking up and eating when you should be sleeping, sounds like a bad habit. To break it, you first have to make sure you're eating properly (including enough) during the day, and then you need a want to not eat until breakfast. You will wake up, but if you don't get up, you will go back to sleep, and after some time, you won't wake up at night. It will force you out of your comfort zone, but you'll probably end up more rested, so you should feel better overall, so you want to continue, and it should be easier to muster willpower whenever you might need it, which will help you stick to the necessary calorie deficit.6 -
Late night snacking can definitely hinder your goal. If for no other reason than the fact that your metabolism slows down when you’re not as active. Does the snacking affect your ability to go back to or stay asleep?14

Not quite.
As long as you are within your calorie goal, you can eat whenever you want. If late night eating is causing you to not hit your calorie goal, then you'll need to change that somehow.3 -
Plan for the snack by pre-logging it.0

Are you still in a deficit with that snack? My only real concern is the night waking/eating which can be indicative of other problems. If you are still in a deficit, can you try adding that calorie amount earlier in the day? Then it will just be a matter of retraining yourself, and that if you do wake in the middle of the night, just stick to a glass of water and then go back to bed.0

I believe its because i had my goal bladder removed and if i go hours with out a snack i start to get sick to my stomach which disrupts my sleep and wakes me up, but at this point it seems like a horrible habit i havent been able to break0

What matters is your daily calorie deficit average to lose weight, not when or what you eat (within reason, as eating a diet purely of Skittles or kale is not okay).
If I eat an average of 1500 calories a day, I will lose weight. It doesn't matter what time I have the calories. Unless you are a Gremlin, your body doesn't have a midnight reset.
If you have a problem with eating at night a few things you can do are:
1. Move dinner to a later hour so you won't be as hungry at night.
2. Bank a few extra calories during the day (I usually bank a good 200-300) for late night snacks.0
