@sofchak What about making egg white cups in muffin tins, then freezing until you need them? Also, peanut butter yogurt can be made the night before.
I am thrilled for you over the job update! Enjoy!!0 -
Success/Struggles: odd Full time shift (12pm to 8pm) means trying to fit 16:8 IF into weird week day eating schedule- especially since eating heavy meal too late in the day brings back my acid reflux. Trying to find some balance is difficult right now. The hunger demons and light night snack demons are nipping at my heals all the time, now, it seems.

Successes/struggles of the week: yo, I'm the one who is eating to benefit my liver: keeping saturated fat and sugar/substitutes on the LOW, LOW, and eating lots of vegetables (and a modest amount of fruit) for a constant wash of nutrients, and lots of fiber...
I have been on MFP for almost six years now, so I am pretty experienced with calorie deficits and the time it takes for the scale to reflect themI Following a "healthy liver" diet really seems to have added some much appreciated jet-like propulsion to the process. I have been wanting to descend to the lower end of my Maintenance Range for months now but it was like chipping away at a brick wall with a toothpick. Now I feel like I've been given a sledge hammer.
Thanks again for sharing your successes and struggles. Boy, we sure have no trouble understanding each other's joys and sorrows do we... anyway, feeling it, and wishing you all good things.
FYI - MY LATEST FAVOURITE EASY BREEZY VERY FILLING PORTABLE 405 CALORIE MEAL: is a massive double serving of 0% plain Greek yogurt, jam-packed with sliced almonds, golden raisins, and chia seeds. I make it an hour or two ahead and leave it in the fridge. I prefer Greek yogurt to regular because I like that it's as thick as it is. And this concoction gets even more gloriously thick as the raisins and chia seeds plump up with the whey in the yogurt. [350 grams yogurt; 20 grams almonds; 20 grams raisins; 5 grams chia seeds]10 -

Success/struggles of the week: My weight is really fluctuating a lot and it makes me feel a bit insecure. Also, I just started my first real job and it is super duper hectic. I have to work abroad for 4 days each week. This means very long days as on Monday, I always have to get up at 03:45 and work till 19:00 in the evening. It's really tiring and I find myself eating A LOT. Sometimes we have dinner at 21:00 at night, but I can't survive until that late without some snacks between lunch and dinner. Therefore, I end up eating too much. Right now, I have started with low-kcal snacks all over the day. So for instance, this morning: I woke up at 05:30 because this week we work at our home office (luckily!), has breakfast (oatmeal), then worked out, had second breakfast (chickpea salad and some greek yoghurt), then I snacked on mango, then two slices of brown bread with goat's cheese and applesyrup, and then strawberries and now carrots. Tonight I'll have a small dinner. I try to just snack a lot during the day, hopefully that will curb my overeating. Do you guys have any tips??5 -

Success/struggles of the week:
I am just trucking along in the 155’s! I have been wearing my Fitbit and getting 10k steps most days which I’m pretty happy with! I might stop logging a while and see what happens. Maybe at the start of July I will do that and see how my weight goes. I feel like as long as I stay active eating within calorie budget is a breeze

17th June: 120.4 scale/ 119.8 trend
24th June:
Success/struggles of the week: Things are going along about the same, which I guess is really what maintenance is. My scale readings the last two weeks have all been between 118.8 and 120.6 with the trend staying pretty steady at 119. My running has been good and my yoga as well. I feel really satisfied with my exercise and eating. I do have some loose skin that I am hoping will tighten up some. A lot of what I read seems to say that it can take about 2 years. I have really only been maintaining for about 6 months, so I do hope that it will tighten up some and also just that I can learn to accept it. For the most part I think I look pretty good, but there are times that I feel discouraged about it. It frustrates me that at 119/120 lbs I still have days where I feel fat. I know I am not fat, but knowing something and feeling it are two separate things.9 -

Success/struggles of the week: still struggling to lose some extra pounds gained while kids were home on a break. It's really frustrating at this point, i feel like i should have been way more down, but the fact is, this 147 lbs reading was the lowest all week, and morning after my 36 miles bike ride. It's a regular ride for me, but i haven't had those lately because of rainy weather and being busy. So i didn't eat much extra food with the purpose of lowering my weight down to 143- 144, where i would prefer to be. But it just doesn't seem to happen this time around, it keeps on climbing up again for no apparent reason. Or maybe it's the mango season, and i just can't keep myself in check? At any rate, it has to stop, i must go down 5 lbs or so.7 -

I am right with you! Only maintaining for a few months here, and at 5'7" 128 I still have a tummy roll that's wider than my road bike tire, and at 61 plenty of crepey skin... so the "feeling pretty" part has been slow for me. I still do "feel fat" and see the flaws and have a hard time accepting that in maintenance I don't get to feel improvement all the time so it's a different kind of thrill...5 -
@brightresolve I love this thread because it is so nice to know that there are others who feel the same and who understand those feelings. If you try to explain it to someone who has never lost a lot of weight they usually just don't understand why you aren't happy that you lost the weight. I am happy about that. I just sometimes wish my stomach didn't still seem so big to me.4
-
@kgirlhart and @brightresolve - I get it. I'm at a healthy weight, and objectively, I look better than most 53 yo - and I'm pretty pleased with my waist and shoulders, but some days all I see is the stocky body with gargantuan thunder thighs. I always wanted to be slim. I spent most of my life curvy but healthy (10 lb into the overweight BMI max) until I ballooned up in the last couple of years.
Now, I'm about 10lb less than my average adult weight but sometimes, I still see the obese woman who started out last year this time.
Head games.

@laura9503 I feel your pain as I keep similar hours during the school year. I eat tiny 100-300 calorie "meals," but I stretch them out into snacks every couple of hours. I also eat lighter in the AM to save cals for evening, after I have gotten my steps in.
(Ignore the high cal days. Either I hiked and ate my bank, or had a compulsive binge. *sigh* https://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/CoachJen71 )2 -
Yeah, I am pretty hung up on my belly apron. It's one of the big struggles. Be skinny and keep it more or less tucked into my pants while looking haggard in my face, or have a somewhat nicer face and flab hanging over my belt. Blah!5

Yes that is what I do now as well!! I munch pretty much all day. So fruits and vegg during the day along with plain crackers, light salads and a very light dinner. It can be a struggle but happy this works (for you as well )!3 -

April avg weight trend: 117.5lbs
May avg weight trend: 119.1lbs
Trend week of...
1st June: 119.5lbs
8th June: 118.9lbs (Low due to some banking and low sodium.)
15th June: 119lbs (Low due to some banking and low sodium.)
22nd June: 119.1lbs
Successes of the week: Made it through the end of school! No rest, though, as FIL is still in the hospital. I have been alternating my time between visiting him and scrubbing his apartment so that it's nice and clean when he gets home.
Had to eat at the hospital caf, where there was pizza, fries, gyros, baked taters, rolls and bread, sundaes, cheesecake, cookies, etc. I opted to have the guy at the grill do up a bunless steak bomb and then piled on the siracha. I call it Philly stir fry! LOL And honestly, it was yummy. It was also more cals than I generally eat, but a good chance to practice flexibility. (As was the cookout the day before.)
Challenges of the week: Still getting up wicked early, only now it's to get steps instead of lift because the rest of my day is so sedentary. Will try to get back to lifting next week.

24th June:
Success/struggles of the week: A LOT of eating just happened -- we were celebrating my father-in-law's life with family (he passed away last month at the age of 93) -- we all had to travel, and so for a week, almost every meal was a family event -- it was wonderful and meaningful, and I just didn't worry about the calories or the eating. Did try to stick to salads and fruit -- but I'm not going to lie -- there was nightly trips to get gelato and/or milkshakes. Damn the ice cream!! (lol!) Anyway, came back and saw the damage -- I was up from 129 to 134! But, I'm already back at 132, and hopefully, in a couple of days, will be able to put 131 or 130 up there for my weight. The family get together was on the other coast, so the jet lag coming back has been rough -- and sleep makes such a difference with weight -- both my husband and I have noticed that. I FINALLY got a good nights sleep last night -- and I'm on my way back to power yoga class today. Ready to sweat.8 -

Success/Struggles: so darn tired. Understaffed at work, vacations and me trying to adjust to a full time schedule have me exhausted. Trying to find a new routine that incorporates time to get in my cardio workouts as well as my strength training. Snacky demons were not too active last week thank heavens.
Been eating at an intentional deficit since June 1 and start of full time work, but have only sporadically able to get in cardio workouts. Hoping to start getting my schedule settled and hit noon time classes at the gym before my work shift starts. Lucky the gym is literally next door.
I thought my June deficit eating was kinda a bust, but looking at my stats here I realize it looks like I am losing about 1/2 pound a week. I want my average or trend weight to be 138 so maybe by August.6 -
Bit late posting...

Total Weight lost: 47lbs
Time it took to lose: on and off 3 years. First 30 in 4 months and then gradually reduced goal weight
How long in maintenance: 13 months
Maintenance weight range: 115-120
Average weight recorded from 2017 (12months): 121
Average weight recorded from May: 113

Week of 8th June: 115.25
Week of 15th June: 112.75
Week of 22nd June: 113.75
Successes/struggles: still keeping up the workouts/ steps. Mainly struggling with tiredness. I get up so early to do workouts but haven’t been getting to bed early enough. Plus my daughter broke her wrist this week so worried about her and it’s made morning and evening routines much longer.
Overall, trucking on. Mindful that my school breaks up in four weeks for the long summer holiday and I will definitely struggle with lack of routine. Will be thinking of strategies in the next few weeks.
Happy weekend all x7 -

Successes/struggles of the week: Still loving the new job, but struggling with my identity there - at my last job, I was “the person who knew EVERYTHING!” I knew all the history and the details... I had all the network connections to make things happen. I had so many documents to reference that I never had to make a deliverable from scratch.
Then *poof* now I know nobody and have nothing to reference to do my new job... so frustrating to build everything over again and to a different standard (albeit an easier standard) because it’s a different industry. I know it’s temporary and it’s just part of the learning curve, but it has been a struggle that I wasn’t expecting. It’s downright mentally draining... and then I eat my feelings. Ugh.
It will get better.

Name: Lisa
Age: 54
Height: 5'2 1/2"
Total Weight lost: 5 kilos
Time it took to lose: 3 months
How long in maintenance: a few years
Maintenance weight range: 52-54 kilos (around 115-119 lbs)
Average weight in 2017 estimate- was not doing regular weekly weigh-ins: 56
Average weight January: 58.9 (highest in 30 years!)
Average weight in February 56.1 kilos
Average weight in March 55.5 kilos
Average weight in April 56.8 kilos
Average weight in May 56.8 kilos
Average weight in June 56.7 kilos (125.2 lbs)
Week of...
3rd June: 125 lbs
10th June: 127 lbs
17th June: 124.5 lbs
24th June: 124.3 lbs (56.4 kilos)
Successes of the week:
-I have been tracking for 2 weeks on MFP.
-Bought nice encyclopaedic cookbook "How to cook everything" (it's not low cal or low fat nor GF, so I adapt some recipes) and
-have been reading that at night when I wake up instead of going online to work or read mail. It's much easier to fall back asleep (which is my #1 goal when I wake at night) when reading a book in paper than when looking at things online.
- I stocked up on lots of basics, as per recommendation in the book : a few more spices, beans, flours, oils, onions, garlic, seeds, nuts, dried fruits.
- I made a big batch of natural light-ish hummus, using an old recipe I had and froze some of it. I tried a new breakfast recipe this weekend, was not crazy about the results, but find it pleasant and less boring to try new things.
- The weather is good this weekend and I had a short stroll with a friend. We stopped at a riverside place to have something to drink and split a snack. It was lowkey and pleasant.
-I still have nice calves (lots of exercise over the years) and my legs are ok. I like my smile lines, crows feet around my eyes. It's pleasant to see that I find some aspects of getting older actually quite attractive.
-Lost 0.1 kilos this month. (LOL) Better to be stable or extremely slight loss, than in an upward trajectory.
Struggles of the week:
-I am still not supposed to be on feet. My new GP (the old wonderful one suddenly retired with no news to patients) is pretty sure I have Morton's neuroma. I need to get an ultrasound (Wednesday) to be sure, and see the specialist (in 8 days), probably to get special insoles. I'm not supposed to walk much until I get them. I can move around, to buy food or go to work, but not "go for a walk" or do activities that require much walking. It hurts only occasionally (an acute but very brief pain very occasionally when I walk a lot).
-I have not gotten into a mode for replacing my walking exercise by some other activity. Anyone have suggestions? I guess I will probably do swimming and/or join the gym. I have never joined a gym. I don't know if I will really go. I know cycling is also an option, but I will have to see if my knees agree.
-Lacking exercise feels not great for body and mind.
-I freshened up my wardrobe getting a few basics this week and am a size up and I am not happy with the look of my arms. I have not gained much, but my middle is thicker ; less muscle mass.
-Not getting exercise tends to throw off my routine. I find myself less focused on professional projects that need tending to. I sometimes feel more stressed and less energetic.
Thanks Coach Jen for the shout out and encouragements.1 -
@Rachelmilloy Thanks for the portable meal tip. I was interested to hear about "healthy liver" diet.
@laura9503 It sounds like you are on the right track with preparing lots of lowcal snacks. You asked for tips. I'm no more skilled nor knowledgeable than anyone, but for what it's worth, I find it helpful to have protein in each snack and also to calculate in some little breaks. That's an extremely long day, so, if possible, I would aim on making that a short term thing (like 1-3 years max) and not a permanent thing. About 10 years back on Mondays I had to wake at 3:30 catch the train and work till 9pm. I used to bring a thermos of tea and/or herb tea around. That gives quick comfort and filled feeling in no time. I'm not a big water-drinker but I love warm drinks. But if you are good at drinking water that can surely help too. Also, if I know I have long days 1) I tend to burn more calories sometimes by just more basic moving around, so some of the extra calories may well be merited 2) if not, I set my MFP to a lower daily amount, knowing that I will "go over" some days, but don't have to worry about it as I balance out over the week.
@hesn92 WTG!
@kgirlhart WTG on staying in maintenance and getting exercise. I wonder if skin can tighten up other than by developing muscle mass to fill it out. I have this issue on my arms and I think the only partial remedy is developing arm muscles.
@icemom011 Your maintenance range listed is 145-150, but you say you you are at 147 but must go down five.
@brightresolve I think sometimes crepey skin is not a sign of being heavy, but can even come from losing weight.
@ryenday WTG Losing 1/2 a pound per week. I hear you on being darn tired. GL on getting to the gym. You and me both.
@CoachJen71 The proverbial "face or fanny" choice. How kind of you to help your FIL. WTG on all the rest.
@juliemargaretkim it sounds like you were wise when with family. The scale must be showing partly fluctuation. WTG getting back into shape and on track.
@Faebert WTG with WO. So sorry to hear about your daughter's wrist.
@sofchak I can really sympathise. How I relate to others (at work or elsewhere)(feeling like I'm "being seen" and/or valued and esteemed, or visa versa or other) and visa versa can have an effect, for me, on my relation to food.4 -
