Vegan here, started 3 weeks ago and never even tried to be a veggie before, it's so easy.
I however haven't noticed a single difference in being a veggie, no additional glow, extra BM's or any other BS feel-good stuff I read about.
Sure its good to minimize cruelty to animals and reduce environmental destruction since every little bit helps but honestly, I'm pretty po'd that there hasn’t been any changes for ME. Weight loss is only due to counting calories, nothing to do with removing meat, dairy, eggs, gluten, honey...0 -

Would never want to be a vegan though, love me some eggs, and fish...And cheese.
But for some reason I don't drink cow milk even though I'll eat stuff it's cookd it...O >O
if you eat fish you are NOT vegetarian... just saying.
this gets under my skin, because when pescatarians say they are vegetarian, restaurants and other cooks get the idea that it is OK to put fish, fish products etc in vegetarian food, and its not ok......
how can you be a 300 lbs vegetarian or vegan... I am confused.?0 -
not vegan. almost vegetarian. eat fish and birds. very few.. only organic/wild. was vegetarian most of my life but in an unhealthy way.
mostly vegan now...as much as possible. very fanatical about how/where my food was grown. sometimes need proteins and resort to birds....
for sure don't consider cows/pigs to be a food group. Is there a name for that?0 -
Since this is a group of veg heads here I was wondering if anyone knew a good vegan protein powder? They all seem to have dairy in them or are super gross..0

I am transitioning in to a alkalarian diet. I was doing a low carb high protein diet. I would usually consume under 10grams of carbs. I don't believe in "Jumping in to things". So tomorrow i might eat meat, or something no big deal, then work on the alkalarian diet. My goal is to be alkalarian most days of the week, then most weeks out of a month etc... just build my way to this diet. I have gone 3 days straight and feel good, gong to do it again tomorrow.
I am doing alkalarian for the health benefits. I know a few vegetarians who eat a lot of crap. Alkalizing diet is about keeping your blood in the proper pH balance. Most illnesses from athlete's foot to cancer are acid related. When a acidic enviorment is to high in the body cell growth and repair ceases. You can be very acidic on a vegetarian diet, even vegan diet.
The diet consist of, mostly green vegetables, no meat, dairy, pasta's, breads... fruits. I personally don't eat grains or seeds either.0 -

I was vegetarian for 3 years and I research vegan diet and did some sould searching etc. I have a different attitude about food now so I restarted eating meat but I don't believe in the excess we DO eat in US. I believe F & V and whole grains are the best and should be predominant of diet. So I call myself a flexitarian. To me what I find key is to respect others for their choices. Vegetarian Times had an excellent article on it this past winter 2010.
My brother started gardening 3 to 5 years ago and the taste and freshness of the veggies is amazing!0 -
i'm vegetarian! I have gone on and off being somewhat vegan, but I try and eat minimal dairy. I find i only really eat some yogurt and the odd time a tiny bit of cheese. I stick to almond milk though if I drink it. I found as you have that I feel SO MUCH better and healthier as well! if you ever need good recipes or books about it let me know i've been vegetarian for almost four years now0

Vegetarian here. Haven't touched meat in 15 years. I was back and forth vegan for a while in college, but having kids now I'll just stick with vegetarian.

I'm a 5 year vegetarian (I started youngish) and I love it. I'm not much for vegetables but I get my nutrients elsewhere....or try to at least. Unfortunately I'm too selfish to go vegan...I love dairy products way too much and I just don't want to make myself that miserable. I do what I can though! =]0 -
NEWLY VEGAN!! ABOUT A MONTH NOW AND I LOVE IT THERE ARE MOMENTS WHEN I EAT SOMETHING I DIDNT KNOW HAD DAIRY IN IT TILL AFTER BUT ITS A LEARNING PROCESS. I WATCHED CHANGE YOUR FOOD CHANGE YOUR LIFE ON NETFLIX AND IT WAS SO INFORMATIVE THAT I JUST CANT EVEN THINK ABOUT PUTING ANY OF THAT IN MY BODY. THE CHALLENGE FOR ME HAS BEEN MY FAMILY AND BUDGET. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A SIMPLY DIET OF JUST VEGGIES, GRAINS AND NUTS BUT ITS UNREALISTIC WITH A FAMILY SETTING THATS STILL USED TO UNHEALTHY CONVIENCE FOODS. WHILE THERE ARE ALOT OF SUBSTITUTIONS OUT THATS VEGAN I WISH IT JUST WASNT SO EXPENSIVE AND EVERYTHING HAS SOY. HAVE ANY OF YOU FOUND ANY PROBLEMS WITH CONSUMING TOO MUCH SOY? MY HUSBAND SWEARS THAT IT LOWERS HIS TESTOSTERONE AND WONT TOUCH THE STUFF WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR ME. BUT IVE FELT ALOT MORE HORMONAL WHEN CONSUMING A LARGE AMOUNT OF SOY IN A DAY.
PLEASE ADD WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SUPPORT IN MY NEW LIFE STYLE

I just watched that documentary as well!! It is hard to think about eating all of it again isn't it!? Right now I am doing raw for a bit, but when I come off of it I would like to try to stay vegetarian/vegan. Which would be unheard of for me, I love dairy so much you might as well consider me to be a baby cow. LOL. We shall see. I think I would just need to keep watching that movie for inspiration (and recipes)!0

I've been a vegetarian for six years now and before that ate very little red meat or poultry. My son and his girlfriend are fierce vegans and have been for a very long time so when I'm looking to try something new or need a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in our area they are the perfect resources.0

my mother calls me a "carbitarian" bc my favorite foods are bread and pasta! i was raised on beef jerky, steak, and ribs, but I've been vegetarian for 2 years. picky eater, don't eat a lot of fresh fruits & veggies, but I'm weaning myself off of canned veggies and processed foods. would love to not eat anything processed at all, but my family is not helpful, and my parents do all the food shopping =P0

I was vegan for 13 years and recently started having some dairy again.... I'm still vegetarian though.... I am not a big carb eater. I rarely eat pasta or rice. That's the kiss of death for vegetarians when it comes to wanting to be thin!!!0

so true! now i only have bread about once or twice a month, and i've reduced my pasta intake by almost 3/4 on my quest for better health. i'm trying to eat more fruit & veggies, but those soft pretzels and bean burritos get me evry time! lol1 -

Ova-lacto veggie here (mostly). I have started eating some fish (I'd be happy without it, but it is a protein that my entire family (kids and husband can agree on). But that usually isn't more than once a month! Before hubby/kids I was fish-free! Thinking about moving towards vegan as I work on my weight loss journey and incorporating more raw foods. The difficulty is doing this without having to prepare two separate meals all the time. If anyone has suggestions for vegan and even raw entrees that hubby and kids would like, please pass my way!0

I was vegan for a while, but I've consistently been a strict vegetarian for 9 years now. Although I'm overweight, the good thing is my cholesterol is low, my blood pressure is healthy, and my iron levels are normal. I do have a vitamin D deficiency, but as I understand it, that's not something that happens to just vegetarians. What I'm trying to say here is that, yes, the health benefits of vegetarianism/veganism are wonderful.0

"Seagan" here. I was fully vegan for 5 years. Now I eat fish when I travel because I found that it was really hard to maintain full on veganism while travelling. I maybe eat fish once or twice a month, more when I travel.

I've been vegetarian for about two months now and I feel twelve times better than I did before. Eventually I want to go vegan but it's a long journey. I'm still working on trying not to eat too much mock meat (the sodium in it is HORRIBLE). lol0
