I am pretty new to working out, I tried to learn from YouTube and from talking to some people before started but I think I built a poor starter work out at the gym...What needs to be added or taking off for it to be more efficient?

I'd use a proven program written by experts. Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5X5 are popular. Check out the thread I linked below.

Those 5x5 things ARE for beginners, but skip the leg extensions/curls... Those are isolation exercises intended for NOT beginners.1

I took them out the next work out and switched the chest press machine to a normal bench press.0

Sweet! Free weights are the way to go unless you have injuries or lack of range if motion. Causes ta to use the stablizing muscles (serratus, rotator cuff, etc) and will result in bigger progress for same time frame!

Ive been doing SL5x5 for nearly 2 months now, trying to lose a bit of fat, so still in a calorie defeceit but my strength has increased a lot in a short time. I definitely recommend it. It gets addictive trying to add weight each workout to see how much you can push yourself1
