Stopped logging for 2 months and gained 10 pounds

Well, looks like I am back. Left MFP for two months and gained 10 pounds steadily. Thought I could stop logging like some that have reached goal weight but I just can’t do it so back to logging.
I found that whenever I stop logging food I stop restricting myself and begin eating to my heart’s content.

This time pay attention to what servings sizes look like every time you eat. Maintaining is harder than losing, IMO.

Indeed lucky you I stopped for 3 years and have gained 50lbs.
Nonetheless let's keep logging and losing together.10 -
If I ever stop logging, I won't stop weighing. The probably within a couple of weeks I would start logging again. 4 months at or below goal...5

I stopped logging for about 4 years, gained back a good 40lbs
Mind you, I did recently just spend close to 2 months barely logging and I didn't gain any weight, I appear to have lost a tiny bit.. but I probably would have lost more with careful tracking

Maintaining is most definitely tougher than losing. I felt like I was on a mission when I was losing. It is soooo difficulty to restrict yourself with the goal being to stay the same. The human brain does not view staying the same as a worthy goal.9

I’ve reached goal on MFP twice. The first time I gained 14 pounds back when I thought “I can do this - without logging”. The second time is now after I gained 6 pounds back and have lost 3 of those. I’ve come to the regretful conclusion that I can’t trust myself to control portion sizes. Good for you for catching it at ten! It’s easy to ignore and say you’ll get back on track next week, after the big party, dinner, wedding, vacation, and on and on.11

like everyone else, i'm impressed you caught it after only 10 lbs! i've come and gone too many times...but i'm feeling good about things today. honestly, be proud you learned a little about yourself and picked yourself back up. i'm still quite a work-in-progress kinda girl, myself.6

There is no shame in logging. I will probably do it for the rest of my life. Some people keep a journal. I keep a food log.11

I will never be able to eat at my heart's content and maintain. So sad...
Not since I quit smoking. I've been slim my whole life but gained after I quit. Weirdly enough, my mum, who has also been slim and also quit smoking, only gained a bit, then lost it and is once again slim without any restriction. She just doesn't have my apetite... It's been 3 years. I gained 30lbs, lost it and now I have an apetite for at least 1000cals more than I burn, regardless of how many I burn through exercise.

Yep, that’s why I will log and weigh forever. I have only one hunger cue and it’s “I’m hungry so let’s eat”. I went on a 5 night cruise and gained 6 lbs and I didn’t even eat everything I wanted. I also exercised a lot. I’m willing to put in the work to keep this weight off. It’s worth it.10

I can't tell you how much I appreciate finding out I am not alone. I stopped loving as of May 20 and have gained back 10 pounds. I was getting depressed, but now since I've read this I have the encouragement and motivation to get started again. It's amazing how much 10 pounds more feels so different.7

If I’m not logging I need to be weighing myself on a regular basis. If I’m not weighing myself it’s because I KNOW I’m eating too much. It’s this weird form of denial that I’m totally aware of. Ideally I need to be doing both but if I’m not feeling logging keeping an eye on the scale has to happen. Otherwise, for me, it’s a downhill slide.6

Been there for sure. About two years and 86 lbs (lost) ago I decided to never stick my head in the sand again. I've tried ignoring and, man, that does not work. I'm here every single day, logging and reading the messages, especially NSVs (love that). I've gone through two-month plateaus, and it's super frustrating, but I always ask myself what the alternative could possibly be? Giving up? Having to lose this weight all over again? That sounds a whole lot worse than logging my food every day. Best of luck to you!3

yes whenever i stop logging in gain weight. I lost 100lbs twice and was creeping back up for a third time. Luckily I managed to get back into gear with only about 30lbs to loose this time.
will need to remain with mfp on an ongoing basis I think. Even if not logging daily I need to do some "daily or weekly check-ins" to see wher I am at and do a better job at regular weigh-in (like every 2-4 weeks max so I can catch any "oops" at a few pds and go back to logging more accurately again).
I found that my portions increase by tiny bits daily and then 6 months later I am back to "large portions".3 -
I also start the portion size creep. Then I stop logging and guesstimate it. Feeling I’ve gained a little I weigh myself, and have. But then there’s the next dinner out and it’s so yummy, so I decide I’ll just not log it because it’ll be inaccurate ( ie I ate way too much and don’t want to itemize it) and I’ll weigh myself tomorrow, which I don’t. By a month later I’ve gained 4 pounds. Or worse, two months later I’ve gained 8 pounds. It’s amazing how well I can do this program, and how quickly I can be in denial. Since it starts with me getting lax on week one, not week 8, my goal is to gain a pound if week 1 happens, but not have anymore weeks. My real goal is to not stop logging ever, but that’s a little frightening!3

Hey, I'm 44, have been tracking my calorie intake in some shape or another for close to 20 years...but have also stayed within a 10 lb range my whole adult life. Some people are just not good at "eyeballing" a serving. I need some structure to keep me away from foods I'd inhale otherwise. That being said, would rather deal with the burden of tracking than the burden of unwanted pounds...though I'm always a little envious of people who are "naturally thin" or "intuitively eat" etc.!2 -

Are you speaking of an 4lb overall weight gain, or a trending? Sorry, I am a curious little kitten.1 -

This is how I am. I have to have at least one check and balance in place. If I quit logging AND weighing it's easy to not hold myself accountable to what I'm consuming. Otherwise its "What the scale doesn't know won't hurt. C'mon, EAT IT. You know you want it"
I haven't been logging in over a month, but I have been weighing a few times a week to keep an eye on it. I'm currently at a plateau. Or maintenance practice depending on how you look at it. After this month is over( My July is insane.) I think I am going to get back at logging in August so the scale gets moving again.1 -
I too will always log food. When I intuitively eat without logging, I feel like I'm driving blindfolded.3

I gained 20 pounds back a few years ago, then ten pounds last year, and 6 pounds this year. Each time I lost it again. This time I almost considered it maintenance, except for the fact that I’m 63 and 5’2” and 6 # is a lot on me. It trended up....and up, not a one shot higher water weight thing.

Same here. Stopped consistently weighing food/logging for 2+ months - not because I was at goal weight but because my work/travel schedule got crazy. And 10-ish lbs is back on in a flash. Sigh. I know better. Back at it. We can do this!2

This describes me exactly. I’ve been maintaining ~30 years, which to my mind is essentially regaining and relosing the last 5lb repeatedly. I slack off, and the scale goes up. Never down. Then it’s time to tighten up the logging. Rinse, repeat. Speaking personally, I would like to eat more than I need to maintain just about every day. I definitely would like another glass of wine after I’ve already had what I had calories for. I guess if 2/3 of Americans are overweight, there are a lot of us who like eating more than we need to maintain. Don’t feel bad, OP. You learned something valuable before you gained very much.3 -
