I walk 3 miles every day on top of my usual daily activities and I lose comfortably. It's my only form of exercise. Stick to your MFP calorie and walk 3 miles and you'll see changes 😁12

i started walking when i started losing.
all that matters is that you eat at a deficit to lose weight.
i lost my first 20lb my first time around while doing long walks.

Yes. 2-3 years ago I lost 100 pounds. the first half of that was strictly via walking (no running, no gym). I worked up to 15,000-20,000 steps a day. I didn't really go for speed very often just, getting in my steps. Note that I didn't START at 15,000 and most was walking my dogs which I needed to do anyway
I also walk for most of my errands (no car)

Thank you! I have been just doing 3 miles 5 days a week so far! I see some changes I just want to get to where I can jog8

Walking on an incline treadmill or outside is about 95% of my cardio. I throw in a short jog (usually the last 1/4mile) if my knees can take it just to get a bit of the interval training benefit.
I shoot for around 16.5min/mi walking and around 14.5min/mi if I'm able to jog that time. 3.6mph and 4.1mph respectively. Nothing too crazy.
Do about the same, 3-4 miles during the week (every other day as I also do strength training). Weekends I like to eat a bit more (a lot more actually...) so I go for 8-9 miles.
You can never jog and still lose weight by just walking. Walk until you feel comfortable pushing your body harder. I'm trying to lose another 15lbs or so before I really start to push my jogging/running distances.3 -
I shoot for 2 hours of walking daily (worked my way up from 25 minutes over a year and a half). When I can't (short winter days, weather), I've got a fitness glider in the basement.
Dropped just over 106 lbs since Oct 30, 2016!14 -
Walking is the easiest form of exercise for me to fit into my schedule. Even sneaking in a 5 minute walk inside the house while something is cooking in the microwave is a way to sneak in extra activity. All the little things add up...8

6-8 miles at a time 4+ mph, ~3 times a week; more if I don't paddle SUP (my other primary exercise) at least a couple of times. Before I started paddling SUP, it was more like 5-6 times a week and ~4 miles at ~3.5 mph and even at that level it got me in pretty good shape combined with a little dumbbell work (light dumbbells, lots of reps).5

I love walking. Its awesome for you and will save your knees. Why not do some sprinting like up hills or 30 sec sprint walk for 2 min to switch it up.
I think its a great workout. I do it a few days a week. Im pushing a double carriage so 80 lbs. i sprint up the hills and flats too.

When you can walk briskly for 45 min, use C25k to begin running. DONT Start by sprinting up hills!7

Walking is my main form of exercise, aim for at least 3x per week. Occasionally get a little exercise doing something different, not often though. I walk for anywhere from 1/2-1hr, depending how much time I have.
Been doing this for 6 months now, and in addition to eating at a deficit each day, have lost 22.5kg so far.3 -
I have walked a minimum of 10k steps EVERY day for the past 900 days. Rain, shine, blizzard, hurricane— home, vacation, work trip, etc. I’ve lost 90#. Yes, it can be done.12

I love walking! I used to walk in the pool everyday for an hour. Now, I'm doing it outside and if I miss a day-I don't like it! I walk three miles at least once a day. If I have time, I try to get in a second walk. I'm down 37 pounds and walking is my only workout.5

Yes! Walking is great. I wear my Fitbit and when I get lots of steps (10k ish) I burn a lot more calories2

Walking is my main form of exercise. I've lost over 80 pounds, have maintained for 5 years.
I don't count steps, but fitness walking miles. I prefer to aim for distance not so much timing or speed. Also for a challenge I do intervals or steady state brisk walking.
When I started I could barely walk 1/4 of a mile, but I kept going.
As I got stronger and my endurance increased I was able to add more and more miles into my day. At the height of my weight loss I was walking 4 - 7 miles a day.
Now that I'm maintaining, I find that 2 - 4 miles a day is a nice balance of keeping me in shape, but not losing weight either.

I'm a walker...down 25 pounds from February. I stopped walking due to illness and put the weight on. I'm healthy again, walking and losing it all. I still have a few vanity pounds to go, but I know those will drop eventually if I keep walking and logging.
I walk more than most now...between 30 and 40 miles per week. The majority of my weight loss done at about 20 - 25 miles a week.4 -
I have had a fit bit for almost 5-1/2 years.
Total miles (most of it from walking & hiking, but some from elliptical machine) just over 16,000 miles.
I have walked in -30F (actual temperature with wind chill factor in the -70F area) and 98F with 79 dewpoint, just this past Friday. I gotta say, I much prefer the colder weather over what we had on Friday. I hate the heat and humidity.3 -
I walk daily at a brisk clip for at least 30 minutes. It’s very hot here right now so I’m doing my walks around sundown. I’ve lost 33 pounds since January.3

My main exercise is walking (with my dogs) every morning. I walk in place when they stop. we walk 2-4 miles2

i've walked every day this year. at first only q mile and gradually increased to 4, but ran out of time to do more and it got hot outside so i joined a gym. now i do 3 miles at 3 mph each day and am slowly raising yhe incline to get my heart rate where i want it. this is a great walking calorie calculator that includes many variables

I've been slowly working my way up from 1 mile walks to 2 or 3 mile walks almost everyday. That's probably 75-to- 80% of my exercise through the week. Sometimes I'll do some aerobics, go for a swim, or shoot hoops with my husband and kids, but mostly I walk at moderate-to-brisk speed (and stay under my calorie limit). I've lost about 18 lbs since early May.3
-
I started this journey in March...I couldn't do a whole mile at once on the treadmill...now I do 2 miles with no problem...I'm down 57 pounds in 104 days and marching on for the next 57 pounds...I stay a little under my 1200 cal limit and do about 12,000 steps a day...3

Thanks for everyone’s input!!! I appreciate it! Very inspiring0

I've said before that walking, as most people do it, doesn't provide a lot of bang for the buck. It's better than sitting on one's duff, but in terms of exercise, it's pretty minimal. Keeping a brisk pace definitely helps though, especially for people who are in their later years of life.
I started out by mostly walking and lifting weights. I quickly reached the point of diminishing returns when it came to walking though, so I started carrying heavy weights, hiking briskly uphill, and so forth. Now I do long endurance races, some of which last eight hours or so.

I started walking and eating less in March and im down about 15 pounds. I try to hit 10k steps a day. about 3 weeks ago I started to add 30 min lifting weights 2-3 times a week. That's more for a pleasing shape than weight loss tho.0

I go to the gym 4x a week but my husband and I love to walk and go on a long one once per weekend. Since we go for so long and over lots of hills I burn a lot more there than at the gym. In the past I have lost weight from just walking so it can be done. The gym/interval running is more efficient for me at the moment though.1

I love walking but wish it burned more calories lol. It sucks only brining 35-40 per mile0

if my spouse drops me early to work, I usually can do 3m in an HR and still have 30m before I have to clock in.0 -
With my initial weight of 170 kg - 356 pounds - I could not walk much. Over the last 3 months a gently increased the daily distance walked and by now I can do 2 hours. So far I do not fit onto / into most gym equipment but I have joined their aqua aerobics which I enjoy tremendously and is good for my joints.2
