I just got done with my annual wellness a week ago. Since I'm pretty well convinced my thyroid is on it's way out, my doc suggested I start taking 200mg of selenium daily as a preventative measure to help slow it's decline. (My numbers go from perfect to indicative of hypothyroid and back, but not bad enough or consistently to take anything yet. Plus it's super hereditary for my family) . I have not started taking it myself yet so I do not know how well it might work, or if at all. But I'm just throwing it out there as an option to look into until you can get in to see the endocrinologist.
Hmm i'll try taking selinium. Hope it works x0 -

I suppose the worst it'll do is not work at this point? I would suggest a bit of googling and talking to your doc before hand - just to make sure it won't interfere with what you're currently taking.1 -
i highly recommend not adding any supplements until you see a doctor - some can cause issues with interacting with medications, should a doctor decide to put you on them3

This. It doesn't make sense to me either. Why would the doctor insist you lose weight with an underactive thyroid impeding your ability to do so?
I agree my daughter is hypothyroid, and she has a hell of a time losing weight.shes on meds and they are trying to get her levels straightened out(its been a year and still trying) but even before she was on meds and eating less than 1000 calories a day she didnt lose weight.(trust me she had to track for several months for the first endo she went to,who should be fired saying she had IR when she doesnt). she had NO appetite literally and barely ate a thing, now that shes on meds she still isnt losing weight but she has more of an appetite now and more energy compared to before.but NONE of the drs told her to try and lose weight after being diagnosed with her hypothyroid.
not even the family dr told her to do these things they just referred her to an endo. even the endo she sees now told her to try and be more active of course, but as for weight loss to not worry so much about it until they get her levels straightened out and try to eat as healthy as she can.
Hmm i'll speak to my dr again
I would really ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. they are the ones who deal in endocrine issues where normal GPs or NPs do not. and endocrinologist is better qualified. although there are some out there who are morons. there are many out there who can help.
my appointment is in november and they said they cannot give me an earlier appointment . i'll have to wait for 5 more months
ask for a) another doctor - 5 months is unsat or b) ask the dr's office if they keep a cancellation list - so if someone who has an earlier appointment cancels, you can maybe get in soon (but you need to have the ability to be flexible)2 -
