Hi

I have already lost 5 pounds and i was eating almost 1600 calories a day then i started eating 1200 calories a day. But now I have started to eat 4 fruits and 2 vegetables a day and feel full on around 1000 calories. I drank milk as well and can't eat or drink anything else as I have drank 8 glasses of water too. My question is if i eat 1000 calories for 2 weeks until i don't start feeling hungry will I lose weight. I have thyroid problem as well thats why its hard for me to digest my food quickly. Sometimes i wake the next day and I am still not hungry and I force myself to eat. Any tips?

Why did you stop eating 1600 if it was working?

1000 calories is far too low. You need to eat more to prevent health problems.

I wasn't eating fruit and veg so i didn't feel full at all

First suggestion is talk to your doctor first....second, you're eating way too low, you may be losing weight, but health wise, you're doing yourself no favors.

Yes I will see my doctor soon ☺️

Is this doctor an endocrinologist or a general practitioner? How is he determining the tablets (synthoid/levothyroxine?) don’t work? (Getting the right dosage can take time...

OP, losing muscle is no trivial matter. Please remember that your heart is a muscular organ.

He is my gp. They did my blood test and nothing changed so he wants to refer me to a specialist

What everyone else said. About 15 years ago I went on a very low calorie diet (500 calories a day) and went from 250lbs to 128lbs in 5 months. It was NOT healthy. I developed an eating disorder in the process; it took me forever to get back to eating like a normal person without worrying that I was going to turn into a balloon overnight. I lost weight, but I also lost most of my muscle, strength, hair and gave myself gallbladder issues in the process. I can no longer drink dark colored drinks or eat certain foods or it doubles me over all night in pain. (Apparently extreme weight loss can cause gallbladder problems.) On top of all that, within 5 years I had gained most of it back since I didn't learn to make it a lifestyle change, just a very short term one. Please, please, please ... for YOURSELF and your actual health, go back to eating more calories. Eating very low calories can seriously cause major issues with your health. If you were losing on 1600 calories, then by all means, go back to that!
I have started to eat 1200 calories again. Thank you for your reply ☺️

How do you know 1200 calories is what you need to lose weight at a reasonable rate ? Was that a suggestion by your doctor or is it your decision based on you wanting to aggressively lose weight?

But he wants you to lose weight first? That makes no sense...

Weight loss would be easier, if the hypothyroid were treated properly. Has he sent the referral to the specialist already? Can you find a new doctor? This one doesn't seem to know much.

This. It doesn't make sense to me either. Why would the doctor insist you lose weight with an underactive thyroid impeding your ability to do so?

I agree my daughter is hypothyroid, and she has a hell of a time losing weight.shes on meds and they are trying to get her levels straightened out(its been a year and still trying) but even before she was on meds and eating less than 1000 calories a day she didnt lose weight.(trust me she had to track for several months for the first endo she went to,who should be fired saying she had IR when she doesnt). she had NO appetite literally and barely ate a thing, now that shes on meds she still isnt losing weight but she has more of an appetite now and more energy compared to before.but NONE of the drs told her to try and lose weight after being diagnosed with her hypothyroid.

not even the family dr told her to do these things they just referred her to an endo. even the endo she sees now told her to try and be more active of course, but as for weight loss to not worry so much about it until they get her levels straightened out and try to eat as healthy as she can.

I would really ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. they are the ones who deal in endocrine issues where normal GPs or NPs do not. and endocrinologist is better qualified. although there are some out there who are morons. there are many out there who can help.

I wonder, Would taking Selenium help you out in the mean time? It might be good to ask your doctor about it, as it's supposed to help support thyroid function. I just got done with my annual wellness a week ago. Since I'm pretty well convinced my thyroid is on it's way out, my doc suggested I start taking 200mg of selenium daily as a preventative measure to help slow it's decline. (My numbers go from perfect to indicative of hypothyroid and back, but not bad enough or consistently to take anything yet. Plus it's super hereditary for my family) . I have not started taking it myself yet so I do not know how well it might work, or if at all. But I'm just throwing it out there as an option to look into until you can get in to see the endocrinologist.
