Hi
I have already lost 5 pounds and i was eating almost 1600 calories a day then i started eating 1200 calories a day. But now I have started to eat 4 fruits and 2 vegetables a day and feel full on around 1000 calories. I drank milk as well and can't eat or drink anything else as I have drank 8 glasses of water too. My question is if i eat 1000 calories for 2 weeks until i don't start feeling hungry will I lose weight. I have thyroid problem as well thats why its hard for me to digest my food quickly. Sometimes i wake the next day and I am still not hungry and I force myself to eat. Any tips?

Why did you stop eating 1600 if it was working?
1000 calories is far too low. You need to eat more to prevent health problems.18 -
I can't imagine that you are getting anywhere near sufficient nutrition on this plan. What were you eating before that you've now stopped eating? What about seeds, nuts, cheese, yogurts, soups, etc? There are plenty of options to get to a reasonable calorie goal as well as increasing the nutritional value of what you are eating. You won't be getting much fat or protein (mostly coming from the milk - but still insufficient amounts unless you are drinking large quantities of it). What about eggs, fish, meats?9
-
First suggestion is talk to your doctor first....second, you're eating way too low, you may be losing weight, but health wise, you're doing yourself no favors.6
-
Yes to what both of the above said. Milk isn't going to give you enough protein by itself, and 1000 calories is too low to fulfill your basic nutritional needs.
This very low calorie diet is not going to be sustainable even short term, so my tip would be go back to the settings page, make sure everything you say there is accurate, and then follow the guidelines about how many calories to eat, with attention to getting protein and healthy fats. Food is not just calories, it's nourishment your body desperately needs.
My guess would be, through 2 weeks of such low calorie fruit-veg-liquid eating, either your body or your mind is sending an incorrect signal that you are "not hungry" and don't need more food. If you can't get back to a more reasonable nutrition intake on your own, you might have to get help - a registered dietician would be a start.6 -
What is your doctor doing for the thyroid problem?3
-
Sorry, but this sounds like the beginning of disordered eating. Waking up not hungry after only eating 1000 calories seems more mental than physical. Also, eating 4 fruits plus milk you are getting a lot of sugar and not much protein so that is far from a balanced diet nutritionally. Talk to your doctor or a licensed dietitian and get into a sustainable eating plan.8

I wasnt eating fruits or veg. I ate 3 weetabix with banana for breakfast. Lunch and dinner was mainly home cooked food. I used to snack to snack on walnuts but i was getting too many calories from that. I have started eating more fruits and cannot eat over 1000 calories as i feel too full5 -

If you have 2 stone to lose, you obviously CAN eat more than 1000 calories. Add some nuts in. You still need to increase your protein. Particularly if you are looking at surgery coming up. Your body needs protein to be healthy, but it is essential during the healing process after surgery.
When you see your doctor, ask for a referral to a registered dietician to help out. Honestly, with an upcoming surgery, you need to do this in a healthy manner.7 -

Well, you were eating fruit because bananas are fruit. And those home cooked meals didn't have any vegetables?
You don't have to be eating nothing but fruits and vegetables to be eating fruits and vegetables. You need to eat some fruits and vegetables, probably less than you are now, and some other stuff, like meat, poultry, fish, dairy, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, fungi. Try subbing vegetable juice for some of the water you're drinking that's filling you up, and that can count as as serving of vegetables, so you don't have to eat as many vegetables and can fit other things into your meals.6 -

You'll lose weight on 1000 calories but it won't be pretty (muscle loss, additional health issues)7
-
What everyone else said. About 15 years ago I went on a very low calorie diet (500 calories a day) and went from 250lbs to 128lbs in 5 months. It was NOT healthy. I developed an eating disorder in the process; it took me forever to get back to eating like a normal person without worrying that I was going to turn into a balloon overnight. I lost weight, but I also lost most of my muscle, strength, hair and gave myself gallbladder issues in the process. I can no longer drink dark colored drinks or eat certain foods or it doubles me over all night in pain. (Apparently extreme weight loss can cause gallbladder problems.) On top of all that, within 5 years I had gained most of it back since I didn't learn to make it a lifestyle change, just a very short term one. Please, please, please ... for YOURSELF and your actual health, go back to eating more calories. Eating very low calories can seriously cause major issues with your health. If you were losing on 1600 calories, then by all means, go back to that!10

OP, losing muscle is no trivial matter. Please remember that your heart is a muscular organ.3

He is my gp. They did my blood test and nothing changed so he wants to refer me to a specialist0 -

How do you know 1200 calories is what you need to lose weight at a reasonable rate ? Was that a suggestion by your doctor or is it your decision based on you wanting to aggressively lose weight?1 -

But he wants you to lose weight first? That makes no sense...4 -
Weight loss would be easier, if the hypothyroid were treated properly. Has he sent the referral to the specialist already? Can you find a new doctor? This one doesn't seem to know much.2

This. It doesn't make sense to me either. Why would the doctor insist you lose weight with an underactive thyroid impeding your ability to do so?1 -

I agree my daughter is hypothyroid, and she has a hell of a time losing weight.shes on meds and they are trying to get her levels straightened out(its been a year and still trying) but even before she was on meds and eating less than 1000 calories a day she didnt lose weight.(trust me she had to track for several months for the first endo she went to,who should be fired saying she had IR when she doesnt). she had NO appetite literally and barely ate a thing, now that shes on meds she still isnt losing weight but she has more of an appetite now and more energy compared to before.but NONE of the drs told her to try and lose weight after being diagnosed with her hypothyroid.
not even the family dr told her to do these things they just referred her to an endo. even the endo she sees now told her to try and be more active of course, but as for weight loss to not worry so much about it until they get her levels straightened out and try to eat as healthy as she can.4 -

I would really ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. they are the ones who deal in endocrine issues where normal GPs or NPs do not. and endocrinologist is better qualified. although there are some out there who are morons. there are many out there who can help.2 -

is it possible to find another doctor? if so find one and see how quick you get in and then see if they will refer you.

I wonder, Would taking Selenium help you out in the mean time? It might be good to ask your doctor about it, as it's supposed to help support thyroid function. I just got done with my annual wellness a week ago. Since I'm pretty well convinced my thyroid is on it's way out, my doc suggested I start taking 200mg of selenium daily as a preventative measure to help slow it's decline. (My numbers go from perfect to indicative of hypothyroid and back, but not bad enough or consistently to take anything yet. Plus it's super hereditary for my family) . I have not started taking it myself yet so I do not know how well it might work, or if at all. But I'm just throwing it out there as an option to look into until you can get in to see the endocrinologist.1
