Dear Community Members,
I just joined MyFitnessPal this morning.
Two years ago I lost 100 pounds in 10 months. I don't mean to be impatient. I know it took decades to put the weight on and form the bad habits. Nevertheless, I want to move on, below this plateau of 235 lbs. I have been at for over a year now.
Any encouraging or inspirational stories from your own experiences are welcome.
Thank you.
Dave

I don't have any advice to give you. I just want to congratulate you on 100 lbs. That is quite an achievement.

Instead of tracking weight loss maybe check if you can see how much fat/percentage of body fat you are losing as you could be replacing that with muscle thus causing weight to maintain. If you have a complete nutrition near you they have a scale that scans your body and gives you all of that information.

I have no encouragement or inspiration, but I know this: to lose weight, one has to be in a calorie deficit. If you want to continue losing, decide if you have to lower your calorie target and/or tighten up your logging.

You probably need to re-evaluate your calorie goals and tighten up your logging, but I can share my own experience... I don’t know what your workout routines are but I can tell you what always broke my plateaus... an 8 mile hike! When I was losing weight, it seems like every time the scale wouldn’t budge for a few weeks I would go on a long hike that just happened to end up being about 8 miles and a few days later the scale would start moving again. My guess is that such a long distance up and down hills/mountains would completely deplete my glycogen stores and push my body to use its fat stores but I don’t really know for sure. It even works for me now in maintenance, I allow myself to gain 5 lbs over the winter and lose it by summer. I was still needing to lose those last stubborn 2 lbs this year to achieve my goal and I went on an 8 mile hike with my son a few weeks ago and I’m now at my summer goal weight. :D YMMV and it’s only what worked for me in my own experience so it might not apply to you but thought I’d share my story :) Good luck!

you dont replace fat with muscle and its normally not a 1:1 ratio even with doing resistance/weight training. so hes not going to replace every lb he loses with a lb of muscle to where he plateaus. and scales that scan body fat and so on are highly inaccurate. its very hard to gain muscle in a surplus let alone a deficit. if someone isnt losing its usually due to several issues(aside from health issues) that could be the culprit

My brother advised me once when I plateaued to change it up. If my workouts were more cardio focus switch to a more weight lifting type focus and vice versa. It got me through. Sometimes too taking a little break from logging and making your brain realize the constant logging is a good thing helps as well. Hope you make it through and great job
