Ghrelin and intermittent fasting

So i lve heard that ghrelin is a hunger hormone and that higher levels prevents fat loss. Sounds strange but if it slows your metabolism andd intermittent fasting basically increases ghrelin, doesnt that mean IF is bad? There have been many opinions regarding this subject. Just wanted to hear your opinions

IF used to mean intermittent. Now it simply means skipping meals every single day until the appointed time when you eat all the things through your window. It doesn't matter if it's a drive-up or kitchen, there will be 8 hours of eating.
I don't believe IF is magical. I believe in circadian rhythms.2 -

Opinion, IF isn't magical, and the best diet pattern to follow is the one that you follow and makes you happiest. I find I am much less hungry throughout the day if I do not eat breakfast. Technically that is IF. It may be different for others.2

I know some people who if they don't eat a good hearty breakfast first thing they are ravenous all day, they can never catch up with their hunger. Some of these people are overweight and some are thin.
I know other people who are hungry all day if they do eat breakfast, but hardly ever feel hungry if they wait to start eating until the afternoon. Some of these people are overweight and some are thin.
I doubt there is a cut and dry answer to your question. Some people do great on IF and stick to a deficit easily. Others feel lightheaded and miserable if they wait that long to eat. There's a lot we don't understand yet about hormones, but if IF is "bad" why do so many people successfully lose weight while doing it?
Taking into consideration your other recent threads, you seem to be looking for or curious about "the best way to eat" or "the one rule you should follow". IMHO this is a waste of time, the only one hard and fast universal rule is calorie deficit for weight loss, calorie surplus for weight gain. The other variables differ by person based on all sorts of things, many of which we probably don't fully understand. The beauty of accurate and consistent logging is that after weeks and months, you can look back over logs and learn what eating schedule, what macro distribution, and what calorie level is best for you.Curiosity is great, but don't get so caught up in the minutiae, you'll just end up spinning your wheels!

well if IF increases ghrelin then I should be hungry because I fast and have most of my life. the only time I am more hungry is when I dont get enough sleep or sound sleep,or when I eat too early in the day.I have never had IF prevent fat loss except for when I ate more calories than I burned then I gained weight.fasting hasnt harmed me in anyway,shape or form. it hasnt slowed my metabolism. what slowed mine was becoming sedentary and having a genetic health issue. but its not sooo slow that I cant lose weight or fat. I just need to eat less then what most sites give me as a baseline0 -

ghrelin is not a fat loss hormone - simply, it triggers when a person is likely to feel hungry & is very pattern based.
Ex) individuals who do not typically eat breakfast have a tendency to have ghrelin spikes/pulsatile later in the day & none earlier in the day. Can change ghrelin release overtime by changing meal frequency/habits/meal size2 -

I dont eat breakfast and dont notice being any hungrier later in the day compared to early in the am. like I said unless I dont get enough sleep or good quality sleep,or eat breakfast for some reason(like if Im hungry and need to go somewhere and need to eat).Im eating the same way I was when I was younger. so maybe long term makes a difference.0 -

yep same here with weight loss. for me its just easier to fast as Ive done it all my life and dont like to eat breakast.I still eat every few hours but in an 8 hr window of time. I cant eat where I have very few but larger meals. I eat when hungry just in that window of time.Ive tried not fasting as people used to tell me I had to eat breakfast as it was the most important meal of the day, it didnt make a difference with weight loss like you said.0 -

To add, in a calorie deficit, Leptin will decrease and ghrelin will increase. So a person will generally experience more hunger in a deficit.3
