Logging Consistently & Fluctuations

It’s so hard for me to deal with fluctuations when I am doing everything right with logging consistently.

I like to use a weight trending app - I weigh every day, and the app smooths out fluctuations and shows the general trend. It's helpful as you can see that your weight is going in the right direction (hopefully) despite fluctuations2

I use happy scale. How do you not panic if you say you weigh every day. I know to weigh yourself everyday & lose weight everyday is unrealistic.
I don't panic because I know that weight fluctuates, weight loss isn't linear, and the app smooths out the fluctuations....8 -

I've never completed my diary... What's that got to do with weight fluctuations?
By "the app" I meant libra/happy scale, not mfp.3 -
Try not to think of fluctuations as a bad thing, it's your body working as it's meant to and adjusting fluid to keep your body regulated and processing food as it should. You are trying to lose fat, not water/food waste. It is the long term trend that matters not the day-to-day variations.

Yes, weight fluctuates, and even more so for us women. It's just part of being a woman. TOM? Water weight goes up. A bit more salt? Water weight goes up. Travelling? The same. Higher temperatures? the same. New sport? Yep, also that. sitting at a desk all day? Probably as well. Plus many other reasons. An averaging app shows the general trend and not the single data points. but for this to work best it needs daily input, taken at the same time (best in the morning naked after going to the loo). But you can also always chose to weight on the same day every week. if Sunday happens to be your day least influenced by water weight use that one. Or not weigh at all.3

You can indeed lose weight (fat) every day, that is what happens when you're doing everything right (and you even have it in writing, in your food diary). You just can't see it on the scale from day to day, because the day to day water weight fluctuations are larger than the fat loss that is possible to create in a week.
You can't directly control your emotions, but you can control your actions, and that's what matters. If you don't change your course hastily - eat more, to reward yourself for or celebrate a down, or comfort yourself from an up; or less, thinking you aren't losing weight, or to punish yourself for an up - feeling anxious won't hurt you.
My advice is going to be two things today: Practice tolerating the anxiety, and not fear it. Feel it, get to know it. Experience will teach you that fluctuations is just that (up and down), and that anxiety also comes and goes. And reward your effort - every day you hit your calorie goal, pat yourself on the back (figuratively or literally, your choice) - the things you do (or, when it comes to eating, it's more about what you don't do), day in, day out, is what will make you reach your goal - not the result; weighing less is just the natural effect of eating less (and moving more).3 -

but if you know its not fat gain, why does it matter?6 -
If you can’t handle the fluctuations weigh yourself less often7

I weigh myself every day, sometimes multiple times per day. But, I also know that fluctuations are normal and that weight loss is no linear. I'm a numbers person, I like seeing the numbers no matter what they are. If it's that stressful for you to see the fluctuations, put your scale away and weigh monthly instead.4

I weigh daily and I think it's better to do so because if you weigh less frequently you can catch your body on a high day. This is my weight graph for the past four weeks. I'd probably get discouraged if I didn't weigh in daily.

Put painter’s tape to cover the scale reading, now you can weigh everyday. Your trending app will work much better for you.1

If weighing monthly how can one follow the trends!
if fluctuations are so hard to deal with then it is no good for your mental health to weigh every day....?
which is more important?0 -

There is still a trend it just won't be as accurate because you won't have as many data points. You can also track progress by measurements and pictures.1 -

There will still be an overall trend, even if you are weighing monthly.
That said, I suggested monthly weigh-ins because daily weigh-ins seem to be stressing you out.
OR get a WiFi scale, then you can weigh-in daily, just put something over the read out so you don't have to see the number on a daily basis.
OR best yet, throw out the scale altogether and buy a tape measure. Your measurements are a much better indicator of fat loss anyway.1 -
I didn't see anyone else address this, but I just skimmed through replies.
The "if every day were like today" is trash. It's intended to be fun and motivating, but in 3 years of logging every day, it's never been right. Many people don't complete their diaries, it's not something you have to do.1
