Hi all!
I’m not sure if I need to up my calories? I feel like I’m still hungry after I eat dinner. I usually get 10,000-11,000 steps a day when I’m at work. Breakfast is either a protein shake or oatmeal. Lunch is normally a shake and yogurt and banana. Dinner is a meat veggies and a carb. I’m trying to stay at 1200 calories.

maybe try using calories by another 200 or switch from shake to another protein source. I struggle with this myself and stopped the shakes to add more food.

We need a lot more info that you have given. Height, current weight, goal weight? Age? Have you put your info in MFP? What did you set your activity level to? How many lbs did you set it to lose per week (I"m guessing 2 lb which is probably too agressive.)

    I’m 44 and I weigh 143. I’m 5’2. I set my goal at 130. I set my activity to moderate. I’m a housecleaner so I get a lot steps and I’m moving for 3-7 hrs straight.

How long you been at this? Are you losing?
Do you think you can incorporate an evening snack?

This was just me, I found I could tolerate feeling a bit hungry in the middle of the day. But in the evening when I was tired, that was a bad time to feel hungry. You aren’t out to lose a lot. Can you deal with a slower loss rate if your more comfortable?

A working plan, even if slow, is a better plan than one that leaves you feeling deprived.

It might be worth it to up your calories so you have more energy during the day and feel less hungry. Considering your activity level, you have some wiggle room. I was able to lose being sedentary on 1,300 calories at 140, and I'm 5'1''.

What rate of loss did you choose, because with less than 20 lbs to lose then you should be aiming for 0.5 lb/week which is sure to give you more than 1200 cals if you have a moderate activity level.

For what it’s with I’m also 5’2 and started about 10 lbs heavier than you. I lost the first 15 lbs with a 1400 NET goal, set at Sedentary (Office job) logging and eating back exercise cals. After several months and a rate of loss of about 1 lb/week I got a FitBit, changed my goal to 0.5 lb/week and increased my activity level because I was averaging 8-10k/day. My baseline goal went up to about 1600 but I kept eating back the calorie adjustment from my FitBit, and kept losing at about 0.5 lb/week. I hit my original goal weight of 125 lbs around one year after starting, but I never felt challenged or hungry. I ate 1600-1800 cals while losing, all the while increasing my activity level.

I’ve since lost a little more and am currently maintaining at 118 with a TDEE of 2200, and averaging 12-15k steps/day.

I definitely think you should be able to lose eating more than 1200 cals, but much is dependent on the accuracy of your logging. What is your rate of loss like currently?

I chose 1.5lbs per week. I think I put light active. I wasn’t sure what to put. I’m a housecleaner to I’m standing and moving all day! I just started my journey July 1st. So far I lost 2.4 lbs but that’s probably water weight. I think I need to adjust my calories. Maybe 1400 calories. Honestly the last couple days I have been going over because I’m hungry. I also need to drink more water and that’s hard to do. I’m lucky if I get 35-40 oz water in.
Thank you I’m going to adjust my calories and see how that goes.

Why not experiment and swap out the two drinks with food. Try that for a few days. Drinks for some people don't have the same satiety value as food. It may be time to switch things up.

I was hungry at 1200 kcal and am doing great at 1350 kcal. It doesn't make that much of a difference for weight loss but feels like a huge difference

Other than age I have similar stats. I started at 138, trying to get to 125, same height. I set my goal as 0.5 lbs per week and have a net cal goal of 1450. I usually eat around 1200-1300 in a day. Despite some hormone fluctuation I have lost at almost exactly the rate I selected =)

I often feel hungry immediately after a meal and get tempted to snack/eat larger portion. But if I walk away from the food I'm fine. Challenge yourself to go 1 hr after a meal without eating anything. If you are still hungry then you need to eat more or adjust your types of calories to feel fuller. If you are not hungry anymore, than previous hunger was your body lying to you.

I would change rate of loss to no more than 1 lb/week, that will give you 250-500 more calories. What you describe, where you are hungry and go over calories, is common when you have too aggressive of a deficit/goal. Choosing some thing more reasonable that you can stick to is definitely better. At a minimum I also think you're lightly active - I would go with that and the less aggressive rate of loss and then track the results for 4-6 weeks.

    Good luck!
