Does it work for what?
If you're in a deficit it will work for weight/fat loss (but no better than achieving a deficit in another way)
If you're eating at maintenance you will maintain your weight.
If you're doing keto with a surplus of calories you'll gain weight.
There are medical conditions that may benefit from eating a keto type diet. Do you have any medical conditions?
Some people feel more satiated with less carbs and more fat so they stick to their calorie goal better. Are you one of these people?6 -
I've been miserly following it for over three years. I use it to address a couple of health issues, and to help me control my appetite and my weight. For me it works very well. YMMV4

What did you hear that made it sound too good to be true?7 -
Start here, this is one of many, many threads about keto dieting - it started yesterday and has plenty of responses already: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10681250/has-anyone-tried-keto/p1
To answer your question, any diet works as long as you consume less calories than you burn - that is the key to weight loss.
Keto is no different than any other diet in that regard, and you don't lose weight any faster or more efficiently on a keto diet. Anybody who tells you otherwise is blowing smoke up your skirt, and won't have any sound scientific evidence to back their claims up.11 -
Keto is not a magical fix-all diet. As has already been stated, for weight loss you need to be in a calorie deficit, and you can achieve that simply by tracking what you are eating accurately no matter which way of eating you choose.
Again, as has been stated above, Keto can be helpful for people with certain medical conditions.
I personally love Keto because protein and fat helps curb my hunger significantly. However plenty of people find that higher carbs do that for them.
The best chance of success is to find a way of eating that you will be able to stick with long-term, anything else is a waste of time and effort.11 -

Hahaha, you're asking if anyone has tried keto....if you've been around in the mfp forums like I have, it seems that's all people do. But I am not saying this as a compliment, just because everyone is doing it means that they are all doing it for the right reasons.
In one group of people doing keto, I would say they are the equivalent of people who believe in unicorns. What I mean by that, they think keto is some magical diet that provides super fast fat loss burner that can't be matched by no diet. These people will claim that they tried everything, but CICO doesn't apply to them, therefore the fact that carbs are bad and it's the reason they lost weight.....These people are doing keto for the wrong reasons, because of the bad information they've got and in believing in something that science has proven wrong which is that fat loss doesn't work that way. You seem to believe that part judging by your first comments here, hopefully you will learn that keto is not magic like some people claim it to be.
In the other group of people doing keto, they just do it because of health issues or simply because they understand the concept of eating less calories than you burn, however they chose keto simply because they just enjoy it and feel satiated by eating a high fat diet. That's it.
If you want to do keto, then you should do it based it on the fact that you enjoy ditching carbs or at least eating very little of them, as long as you don't mind eating mainly high fatty foods provided that you are still at a caloric deficit. The highlight part is very important, you only lose weight because you eat less calories than you burn. That is the only direct way to lose weight. You can still gain weight on keto if you eat more calories than you burn.
Can you lose weight by eating a high carb diet, you certainly can.....how??? Well just like I mentioned before, by eating less calories than you burn. That's the one thing all diets have in common is that they are tools, but the end result is that you need to be in a caloric deficit whether it's with keto, IF, vegan, paleo, atkins, mediterrenean diet....It doesn't matter the diet.
Here's a chart, this was from the Alan Aragon study (He's not the only one in the study, but the most recognizable person in the list) and you can read more here:

All diets work the same way - by creating a calorie deficit. For people who are satiated by fats and won't miss carbs, keto could be a great choice.

Does it work? Yes, but it truly depends what you are going into it for. I use it to stay off the diabetes meds and it works like nothing else I've tried to major success. My sugars are stable at around 96 which nothing else (including meds) have been able to do in 6 years. I have more energy, better sleep, more endurance for my lifting workouts and I have less fat on my body. In Yoga, I can bend in ways such as wheel pose like I never did before Keto. Will I give all credit to Keto? No, but it deserves a good amount of credit since it helps to control my sugar and that plays into so much other areas of my life. People that are massively overweight have the potential to wake up one day and the scale is 15 pounds less but most of us will see the typical calories deficit losses.
Just a different type of gas you are fueling the engine with. Carbs/sugar vs fat.

I am trying the plant paradox intensive care part because my husband has a rare neurological disease and it said it can help. It’s also like keto but not as much red meat. I am going to try to do it with him and my son who is overweight who is 22. But it’s hard to make someone else do a diet when they aren’t really in tune with the reasons why etc3

Who said it can help? The diet website or your doctor?
Also making someone else go on a diet has a worse chance of success than going on a diet of your own volition, and that's already pretty bad.2 -

It works like any other diet works...if it puts you in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. In the absence of a calorie deficit you won't lose weight regardless of whether or not you're keto.2 -

Work as in for weight loss? If so, often yes. Because it helps certain people indirectly eat less.
Work medically? Yes. I'm on keto (not for weight loss) and my epilepsy is under much better control. My chronic migraines have significantly reduced as well.1
