Low carb, can’t believe how good I feel

As a big bread, pasta, cereal and rice eater I can’t believe how much better I feel eating low carbs. I’ve lost inches on my waist and thighs and haven’t felt bloated once since starting. Looking forward to progressing and living a better life style while still enjoying lovely food !

it's been an amazing experience for me too! my skin is clearer, I feel more energetic and happier.21

I'm the same! It's amazingly easy to stick to because cheating isn't worth the discomfort and pain of eating the carbs.25
-
Omg me too! It’s crazy! I have so much more energy and the bloat is gone. What is it that causes that?16

Congratulations!
BTW, the bloat lost is a bit of water weight and electrolytes lost. When insulin is low it signals the kidneys to excrete more water and electrolytes. It's a nice bit of weight to lose, isn't it?24 -
How much carbs do you guys eat? I cut the refined, but I still take around 80gr to 120gr a day. But I said goodbye to cravings and keep under 1200 never was so easy.6

I've been doing keto and my face broke out badly, it should go away after a while. I eat less then 30g of carbs a day.5

Im doing keto15 g net carbs a day, and if....my cravings r just about gone and i feel awesome8

YES! I was in denial as how "addicted" I was to carbs, cutting them so low has been a great fit for me. I'm not starving all the time, I eat when I'm hungry and a lot less when I do eat. Ive lost a fair amount of weight, I feel better and an a much happier person.18

Can you guys seeing yourself eating this low carb way for the next 30,40 years? Just curious if doubt creeps in?16

I just started with a low carb eating style (I don't want to call it a diet) and it's true what all of you posted, I feel better, I have not felt bloated during these days and I have much more energy. I started 10 days ago at 275, I have a long way to go but I already lost 3lbs and I am very motivated. I am eating 1200 calories or less and 120 grams of carbs or less per day, also eorking out 4 days a week. So far it's working for me.15

Fascinating to read all of this. I have a totally different experience. Eating only very few carbs makes me feel ill, I have no energy at all and feel like I need to puke all the time. Maybe if I'd see it through for a longer time, that would change, but I guess I really don't see the need. I like my carbs, and since they're not inherently evil, I'll just cut down on to many processed carbs.29

I have been doing a loosely-based keto (not as low as 20g) but cut out all the bad carbs. It’s been 2 months and I’ve lost almost 30 lbs. It’s insane how quickly the weight has come off. I’m a little worried that I won’t have the same ease of success these next two months as I come closer to my goal. I’m not sure if that’s true or not but I don’t want to plateau! Started at 210 and am currently 181. My goal is 140.22

Been doing the ketosis plan for 17 days on 20 or less carbs a day. Have lost 6 pounds so far, don't feel hungry and don't miss bread etc, bread was my worst thing as I love it. Will stick with it to see how it goes longer term. Nice to hear how others are successful on this plan.7

I agree! When I tried weight loss in the past, I whined “But I loooooooove my carbs” and refused to give them up. Now I see they aren’t even worth it! The awesome part... I am finally NOTICING how my body feels when I allow it. The inflammation when I allow crap as a cheat. I wake up hurting all night long. When I stick to my plan, I sleep well and wake up feeling better. Yay!12

I just started low carb and low sugar/ no processed sugar this week, and I feel better already, too! I’ve also noticed the less bloated feeling! It is easy to stay on it, because you just feel so good.7

How have you arrived at your daily carb allowance that's healthy for you? Have you worked with a dietary nutritionists or was it by yourselves and from the popular low-carb diet sites? Just curious.8

I just stopped unhealthy carbs. No white bread, white rice, white potatoes, and processed sugar. Just eliminating these created it’s own deficit for me. This diet was recommended by my dr, because I’m insulin resistant, although my dr did not tell me what number to stay under.
I’ve not eliminated healthy carbs (oats, sweet potatoes, some honey), so I still eat plenty of carbs.17 -

I'm really hoping once the low carb craze settles down a bit, people will go back to appreciating potatoes as the nutritious satisfying food they are. It's sad to see them labeled as "bad".51

You realize the nutrition profile between russet (white) and sweet potatos and white rice vs brown rice is minimal at best? Slightly more fiber and some micros (vitamin c for one) but that’s about it...20 -

Seriously! I bet if I were to post the nutrition profile of both - few ppl would be able to distinguish the difference...
But then I also got told that carrots were a better carb than white rice...which still befuddles me...15 -

Here is the nutritional breakdown of a large potato. It can be called "not a good fit for a particular diet or health condition", but I can't think of a universe where this nutritional profile is "unhealthy" as a generalized statement.

I hope so too! I eat potatoes with dinner almost every night and couldn't live without them. Poor little delicious bad carbs.16 -

I LOVE potatoes (and pasta, rice, oatmeal, etc) but all of these cause my blood sugar to skyrocket— I’m T1DM. I can take extra insulin to cover it but it’s easier to just avoid them11 -
I do not like going on any diet that restricts food groups. Especially foods that are good for you and provide healthy nutrients. I ABSOLUTELY did not want to do a low carb diet! I enjoyed my oats, sweet potatoes, Fage yogurt and pizza! Unfortunately, I found out that I have an auto immune disease that would require me to alter my dietary requirements.
I understand that some eat low carb/no sugar to lose weight but not everyone does. So please think twice when making comments about other peoples dietary preferences. Not everyone has a choice25 -

That’s the keto flu. The first time I tried keto I thought I was going to die and had to stop. Then I decided to try a second time after researching more and under the guidance of a friend that has been on it long term. The worst of it is not cause by lack of carbs but by the dehydration that follows the kidneys removing the retained water from carbs. With that water you lose electrolytes which causes the massive headaches and nausea. If you increase your salt magnesium and potassium with more water you will feel better. I used broths and Powerade zero.
As for the low energy. That last a few days to a few weeks depending on how long it takes your body to convert your metabolism from carbs to fat.5 -
It’s amazing to me how many reject the idea of a low carb diet as healthy when everyone’s bodies react so positively to it (after the detox period). More energy, cleared skin, shinier hair, no hunger, regulated cycles for women, lower blood pressure, controlled/cured diabetes, and improves blood work. The body knows what it needs. Carbs aren’t bad for you but when eaten in the quantity that the American diet consumes it’s not natural.25

You realize some of the healthiest populations in the world (like the blue zones in the med) eat high carb right??
The SAD (standard American diet) is high in calories, carbs and fat....not just carbs...but they are the ones demonized...19
