Sausage substitutes?

Hello! As I’ve been logging my food here, the sausage I eat with breakfast, from anywhere—any kind, seems to destroy my fat goals for the day. Are there any substitutes that aren’t as fatty, and still give great flavor? Thank you!

    I don’t eat a lot of sausage. Just one patty. But it still seems to be sooooo much fat... I’m not friends with bacon haha

    I use either reduced fat pork sausage or ground turkey breast with breakfast sausage seasoning added. Places like Pensey's and Savory Spice usually have spice blends that taste like breakfast sausage, so I use those.

    I usually eat turkey sausage or chicken sausage- my mom likes the turkey but so far will not touch chicken sausage. it is just preference also.

    Fat and protein can be seen as minimum numbers. Going over isn't an issue unless one is crowding out the other.

    If you eat the sausages for the taste, it's going to be hard to replace them. Eating sub-par food is not satisfying. You can set your macros as you please, or ignore them. They are there to make it easier to stick to your calorie goal. So does eating the sausages make it harder to stick to your calorie goal?

    what is your fat goal for the day if a sausage destroyed it - most sausages (in my experience) are about 10g of fat

    If one patty is "destroying" your fat goals for the day, maybe your fat goals are too low?

    I eat Johnsonville breakfast sausage from time to time...it's like 13 grams of fat per serving. What are your fat targets that one serving of sausage is destroying your fat targets?

    If you eat the sausages for the taste, it's going to be hard to replace them. Eating sub-par food is not satisfying. You can set your macros as you please, or ignore them. They are there to make it easier to stick to your calorie goal. So does eating the sausages make it harder to stick to your calorie goal?

    My calorie goals aren’t affected by the sausage. Do I need to not worry about it as much, if I am getting my deficit?

    Calorie deficit determines weight loss. Macros determine satiety and overall nutrition. Going over in fat is fine as long as you're still in deficit.

    MorningStar farms vegetarian sausage or turkey sausage. As stated above I have made my own with ground turkey breast and sausage seasoning.
    I eat ham as well, more protein less fat.

    Look at your fat goal (along with protein and fiber) as a minimum. Or you can change your macros to add more to your fat goal.

    It’s a Great Value sausage patty. That’s what the label says. I even scanned the barcode.

    A minimum seems much more logical for it to be that low.

    It depends what else you eat. Do you eat a lot of fat-heavy foods? I actually struggle to hit the MFP default fat goal, I just naturally eat lower fat. A sausage is one of the few fat-forward things I eat.

    Track for a few days and see what happens, that's the beauty of consistent logging :smiley: . And it's no big deal really if you go over on fat, unless you have a medical condition and a doctor has advised otherwise.

    It’s a Great Value sausage patty. That’s what the label says. I even scanned the barcode.

    Yeah, I've seen that one as well and it is 20g. There are many other choices with lower grams of fat. Like a user above, I use Johnsonville and it's 10 grams of fat per patty. Just shop around and see what others they have or go over on fat. It's not an issue unless it's putting you over on calories or crowding out protein.

    *as a side note, scanning the bar code still only pulls up user-created entries so you still need to double check the information. Sometimes it pulls up a different product altogether.

    That is good to know! I think I noticed the other day that for a Bumblebee Tuna Snack on the Go, the crackers weren’t accounted for, so I added those to my entry for the day o:

    Sausage is really just spices, salt, and preservatives. You could really just pick any ground meat, add lots of pepper, hot pepper flakes, (if you want spicy sausage) lots of salt, some crushed fennel seeds and anything else you like. Its cheaper and not full of excess preservatives to extend shelf life.
