It certainly been beneficial for me in familiarize myself with macros (carbs, fat, protein) of certain food items. Knowing that information, I can manipulate the stuff I eat to keep in line with my macro plan (i.e., low carb, low fat, etc.) and keeping myself staying disciplined on my daily eating habit.
But most importantly, don't stress yourself out with sticking too religiously to your macro goal of a day, staying within a range is okay! Our body metabolism adjusting on a weekly basis, so there are room for some flexibility, just try not to overindulge.
Also, I found that having a food scale helped tremendously with precisely logging in foods to the diary to hit macros!1 -
Count calories, eat high protein low carb healthy fats. I’ve lose over 50lbs eating the right calories and light exercises. I run ride bikes or walk a few miles. You go this I’m rooting for you2

The most important thing for you to discover is a plan that you like, that you can sustain. Everyone is different. Experiment. See what you like, what you don't.
For me, I eat all things in moderation and move more to burn more energy than I consume. I pick exercises I enjoy and aren't a chore to do. Usually, it's a good, brisk walk for me.
Find what works for you! If you enjoy what you do, then it will be sustainable. Good luck!1 -
I’m new this time, but I’ve been here before. Like anything, it only works if you work it. I did have a great success the first time around.0

I try and choose foods that help me stay within my calorie goals while eating lots - so piles of veggies, tasty and varied salads and fruit for me. I get enough protein but, unlike some, I don't find protein on it's own helps me feel full. For me it is important to be adventurous with my salads, stir fries etc so that they are packed with flavour. Internet is great for finding creative ones.
For exerise I just try and up the activity - I don't go the the gym as it is a 25 mile round trip and hard to justify when I already have lots of activity I can do to provide aerobic and resistance work. The old me would let hubby undertake all the heavy tasks in the garden while I was 'busy' indoors (usually idling if I'm honest'. The new me goes out and helps him chop back hedges and trees, barrow stuff down the garden (about 300 yds and on a slope), haul out brambles. I also now try and help him with any other tasks that he is on - we are building a massive garden shed at the moment so lots of fetching, carrying, moving large sheets of board etc. I now do all the windows - I used to persuade hubby that outside windows were his domain (we are single storey) When I clean my house I now do so much more actively, my skirting boards have never been so clean - lots of bending and stretching there. We also walk together and as we live near the coast that involves long walks along the coast path - good hills! Old me would always try and come up with excuses as to why I couldn't go with him. If it is very wet out and our walks are short I will do an exercise video, but that is purely to give me some more calories to play with - I don't find them fun. I do Pilates once a week in our village - great for flexibility and a walk back up a steep hill after for good measure.
Sorry, that was so long - I guess what I'm saying is you don't have to go mad - just live life more actively, find fun activities you like - eg swimming and dancing and build as much enjoyment into this lifestyle as possible. You're alive a long time hopefully, don't make life a chore.5
