c25k starting 1st August - support group?

Hey! I just did my first day with week 3, and pushed hard! I actually liked it! I didn't want to stop at the 2 reps suggested, so i threw in an extra rep! :happy:0

W3D1 yesterday was not too bad. I went at a slower pace to ensure I had enough stamina to endure it...and I did! (Completed approx 2.71 mi.) Tomorrow I am going at a faster pace, I'm going for the 5K. :devil:
Just did W3D1 today too, but you ran circles around me!!!!! I only went 1.66 miles! I've noticed that my distance has actually gone down each week and I'm so confused! I know I run REALLY slow but it's a LITTLE faster than I walk, and I feel like I should be going further. What's up? Anyone else encounter this? (I do run with my little dog and she gets tired and stops to pee a lot, but I don't think she's slowing me down any more now than the first week.)
I haven't been able to match that distance again! I'm thinking it's because that day I was alone (all other days I do it pushing a double stroller). I completed W4D1 on Saturday and it was KILLER!! But I did it! I jogged for 5 minutes - twice! My distance was 1.8 miles. My theory: The longer we jog, the less distance we cover. As we push our bodies to do what (for some of us) is something we have never done before, we are physically drained. This in turn affects our pace. I think once we get to jogging a consistent time/distance toward the end of the program, then we'll be able to start working on beating our times. (Plus, my stroller/your puppy probably do slow us down.)
On a different note, I completed W4D1 on Saturday even though I was certain I was not going to be able to do it. I was soooo overwhelmed that I CRIED when I finished! It didn't matter that it was about half of a 5K, to me it was a freakin' marathon. My body has been aching for 2 days but I will be back out there tomorrow cause I feel like I can do anything now! :smokin:0 -
Week 1 I ran 6 times. Week 2 only 3 times. I was really debating doing another day of W2 today but figured I'd try W3 and see how it went but I REALLY didn't think there was any way I could run for 3 minutes straight. Well, guess what??? I DID! My pace is SOOO slow but I'm doing it so I guess that's what counts at this point!
Good for you! My 3min runs last week were also soo soo slow, especially the 2nd one. But it felt great once it's done right? As of now, I have not run for 3 consecutive days and I'm dreading W4D1 today. Even my tummy is protesting with lots of uneasiness. Haha.0 -
I ran 6 times last week though, the first 3 as scheduled and the last 3 for 1:15 each time to ease me into week 2.
Don't you & your knees get tired for running 6 times per week? I'm assuming that it's consecutive days. I want to try jogging Mon-Fri but am afraid that my knees will juz buckle after a while and I'll be out for a few days and then I will have to start over.
I've been considering doing week 1's workout alternately. Say if I'm doing the scheduled runs on Mon, Wed & Fri, I run week 1 on Tue & Thurs. Is there anyone doing this? I'm only free in the mornings, and the gyms & pools are not yet open when I'm off to work. I mean, I'm glad to have the free days, but I also feel like I'm losing out a bit by not doing anything on those free days.
I suppose I'll figure something out. Any suggestions from you guys?
I was pleasantly surprised that my knees didn't stage a revolt! And I really wanted to work on making it a habit, so the first week was great. I only ran 3 times this past week and I'm feeling like it's just too easy to keep skipping days. Doing it every day makes it feel like it's not okay to skip a day. I have a tendency to quit most things that I start, so I'm really really trying to conquer that this time!
I like the idea of alternating days - it will keep it different from day to day and make you feel really accomplished on the 'easy' days. Hey, I just had a great idea!!! My pace and form are abysmal so I might try this and work on lengthening my stride and improving my form on the easy days and work on just getting through the longer days. Brilliant! Thanks for the idea!
Haha, I'm just glad that the idea works for you. I have yet to try it out, though. Am currently reading up on the 30Day Shred and wondering if doing it will compliment the running or totally kill me.0 -

I think BOTH of you ran circles around ME! I'm not really sure what my mileage is, but I'm guessing 1.2mile or less. I think I should walk faster during the breaks. Haha. I'm terribly slow!

Super excited to find a message board on the same week as me I am at W3D1 tomorrow night. I have signed up for the Race for the Cure on Oct. 9th. I find that having a goal will help me to not skip and keep to the schedule and rest days and keep pushing myself so I can run this bad boy. Otherwise I fear I would go off track and make excuses and maybe ultimately quit .. Has anyone else signed up for a race???
I have a 5km run scheduled in December! How long is that, right. Haha. The other races scheduled here are all 10k and above. Perhaps I should create my own race instead. Gather a bunch of friends/family and just choose a day to run.

Woo! I finished W3 today. I'm finding week 3 to be easier than week 2 was, and I don't know why! The time goes by SO quick.
I run at 5.8 and walk at 4.2 on the treadmill. I managed 2.4 miles on the treadmill today.
I'll try to move it outside for week 4.
My foot pain has almost disappeared, and things are getting easier and easier.0 -

Its a program designed to build up to running a 5K race. It alternates walking and running on a weekly schedule building up gradually. You can either get the program for a website or purchase an iphone app or podcast.0 -

That is SO AWESOME! And never having been runner, I totally get it! I'm so ridiculously proud of myself and happy that I could (and sometimes do) babble on about it at length. My 10 year old daughter know exactly how far I go each day and how many calories I burn and what hurt or didn't. It's sad but it's just so exciting for me! And for you too! I'm SO happy and proud for you too! And p.s. thanks for giving me hope for week 4 - 5 minutes seems like a long time to run but yay us - we can do it! Or I'm damn well gonna try anyway!0 -
done w3d1! :-)) so happy.. i wasn't sure i'd be able to finish it for the last minute run i really pushed myself not to stop (i was feeling my chest will burst), i kept thinking my buddies in the support group was able to do it i should not let them down.. i'll rest for tonight then w3d2 tomorrow night..:drinker: :drinker:0

W4D2 Update: It was SOOO much easier the second time. During my first 5 minute jog I knew I had it in the bag! My husband could see it in my eyes...and I completed with stamina to spare! MY legs and feet were very sore, but much less than Day 1.
Some Tips:
-Make sure to breathe (I use my Lamaze breathing. Runners would prob laugh at me., but hey, it works.)
-Get some good music for those 5 min jogging stretches.
-Don't look at the time. Five minutes go by very quickly if you're enjoying yourself, but very slowly if you're stalking your watch.
Last but not least, a shout out to Michael Jackson's Beat It & Lady Gaga's Edge of Glory. There's no way one could quit with those songs playing. (I need to remind myself to add Eye of the Tiger to my playlist too.)0 -

I finished week 2 day 3 tonight. Since the beginning of this process I have been dreading week 3 with it's bump up to 3 minutes. I think its mostly mental, so tonight I just bit the bullet and on my last interval I just kept running and ran for the whole 3 minutes! I was so proud of myself. Now I don't have to worry about the next session.0

finished wk3d1 tonight....but my question is....if i do this on the treadmill (ive been doing it outside since its been nice) what do i set my incline to because im training for my first 5k and I know the land wont be flat but i dont know how treadmill's incline and a road's incline what would be considered equal0

I completed W1 on the treadmill and thought I was dying. This week, my friend and I are completing Week 2 outside - sooooooo much better! W2D2made me feel so proud - I have NEVER been a runner and to jogfor more than 10 seconds is amazing!
My question is: Do you RUN or JOG it? I simply cannot run it, so I jog at a comfortable pace. I want to do it right though....0 -
You can do this. I have done this twice now and always quit, and I am determined to make it thru. It's scary to move up the amount of time you run but man does it feel great once you do it. I NEVER thought I could run for 5 min straight, but I DID. I will admit I skipped the last week of week 5 since I didn't think throwing a 20 min run in there when I barely make it 8 mins was smart.
Don't be afraid of the next step. Be impowered once you do it.0 -

I had to repeat the first week. Do what you need to do in order to move to the next level. But, who knows? You may surprise yourself if you keep moving through it. I know I have.0 -
