Can you rely on cardio calories burned on an elliptical when you don’t factor in speed, incline, etc?

Did you input you age and weight on the machine before you started? The machine takes into account the speed and resistance, I don't think there's incline on an elliptical, maybe stride length. But yes, all of those things change the amount of calories burned...

I wouldn't use the entry in the database as there's no accounting for intensity.
You could be taking it easy reading a book barely exerting yourself or you could be going flat out to exhaustion.

You could use the heading but overwrite your own estimate.

Out of curiosity I put in 60 mins and it gave what I would consider to be only possible for a really hard workout.

Ok... thank you! So relying on your machine is more accurate! I will adjust!!

If the machine asks for your weight, it is likely to be most accurate.

If it does not ask for your weight, it is probably using 150 lb as the default weight for everyone. For this sort of machine, it under-reports your calorie burn if you weigh more, and over-reports your calorie burn if you weigh less, than 150.
