Running is boring and pointless

If your concern is losing weight just cut carbs, eat more good fats and do some strength training. Way easier than running for an hour. Unless you really really enjoy running I don't really see the point. If you're doing it for mental and cardiovascular endurance, then fine I guess. I doubt that's why I see so many people on treadmills at the gym though. I think they legitimately think they're going to lose weight which is a mistake.

There are numerous reasons to run that go beyond weight loss and cardio endurance. Being prepared in case of an emergency is high on that list. Not to mention that, contrary to popular knowledge, running can help preserve the condition of one's knees as one grows older.18

*sigh*
While I don't disagree with the intent of the post (that running/exercise is not required for weight loss), I do think the way you said it is misleading, at best. At worst, it's just wrong. You make no mention of energy balance or calorie deficit or similar, and you do suggest that certain foods are inherently better or worse than others.21 -
Yeah I bet that's why so many overweight people hit the treadmills; to be ready for emergencies and to improve their knees. Real high on their priorities I bet!29

Well alrighty then.7

Don't be dense. I said that there are numerous REASONS to run. I said nothing about why most overweight people take to running.,
Stop being a jerk about this.

you're funny.... :laugh:9 -
Being nice is good, but being honest is better. There isn't an obesity epidemic because people don't run enough, it's almost exclusively a consequence of carbohydrate addiction and subsequent hormonal dysfunction that also leads to the epidemic of mental disorders like depression and anxiety. Running is a band-aid solution that doesn't even work.47

i cant work out what you're angry at... your weight, running or carbs?32 -

ok, now you've lost me. Maybe giving you the benefit of the doubt with your first post was my mistake...16 -
It's really simple. People get fat because they eat too many carbs and then try to fix their weight problem by running for hours on treadmills. No one's angry, Capiche?32

Well, if your concern was losing weight it would make no difference if you ate 100% carbs just as long as you ate at a deficit. So, you sir, are wrong and an *kitten* to boot. Take your trolling to a different board.22 -
There is a HUGE difference in that eating an hour's running worth of carbs takes 1 minute at most. Humans psychology is a strange this. You'll justify 1 minute of happiness with an hour of struggle.20

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. Running is not for everyone. It is for me though. It is my go to when I need to clear my head or de stress. I feel amazing after a run like I can tackle the world good. At 40 I started running, 6 years later I am proud to say I have finished 5 half marathons, countless 10 and 5ks and my fav 5 rugged maniacs. If someone had asked me 10 years ago to go for a run I would have laughed. My intro to running was my first rugged maniac. my husband thinks running isn’t challenging enough (he races motocross). It’s not for everyone but it is for me. It’s my go to and yes I do other things: dharma wheel yoga, satria yoga and some satria martial arts and kayaking. While you may not see the point in it better to be out there running then doing nothing. When you see someone out or on a treadmill TRYING don’t put them down encourage them. We wall started somewhere don’t crush their attempt at bettering themselves.
Edited to add: it was running that made me begin to rethink what I was eating to refuel and energize my body. Without that introductory to running I probably would still be unhealthy and overweight.16 -
Why is everyone feeding the troll?27

People get fat because they eat too many calories. Are carbs part of it? Sure. But they aren't the only/sole reason. If someone who is getting fat replaces 50g of carbs with 50g of fats, they will actually get fatter. Your cut carbs and eat more fat doesn't work.9 -

I have experimented a lot with different diets and i can assure you that 50g of fat and 50g of carbs are not the same thing. 50g of carbs will have you craving more. 50g of fat will not.18 -

While this may be true for you, it in not true for everyone. Some people are satiated by carbs, some by protein and some by fats - there is no one size fits all answer when it come to satiation.12 -

Cuz math.
50g carb apprx 200cals
50g fat apprx 450cals
Which was your quoted replier's point.11 -

Ah, so now we're talking about adherence and preference? Gotcha. Far cry from your original post...7 -

Nothing to do with preference and everything to do with the mechanics of macro-nutrient digestion and the subsequent hormonal responses. Carbohydrates are well known and documented in tonnes of scientific literature to throw your hormones out of whack.21 -

For you maybe. Not for me, and many others. For some fibre is filling vs a drizzle of olive oil.7 -

Why specifically carbs?? Any calorie surplus would lead to weight gain. Conversely, any calorie deficit would lead to weight loss. The type of food leading to that surplus or deficit doesn't matter.
And then of course running would be only one of many options available to drive a surplus back towards a deficit. I personally don't run, and if I occasionally use the treadmill, I walk on it.3 -

There, FIFY.
Like others said, I agree with the general sentiment that too many people plod away on a treadmill and/or elliptical for the sole reason of chasing a calorie burn in an effort to lose weight but that's the end of any value this post provides.

You don't have to take my word for it. I don't know anyone who is addicted to avocados or chicken breasts and yet I see people who eat bread and drink Coca cola like it's going out of fashion. Fibre is a natural carbohydrate unlike the abundance of extracted simple sugars and starches that people mistake for food.12 -
