@Dr_Farru, it might be hard a first, but I went for a ride every day until it became a habit. Now, as @huskydoo said above, it does become a kind of therapy and stress relief, and now, I feel like something is missing out of my day if I don’t get to go for a ride, and I’ve been doing it now for 5 years.

Thank you for that! I'm going to definitely go once the sun goes down a bit here shortly. Thank you for the encouragement

I don't mind biking alone but check out the local bike shops and see if they have any group rides you can join. That's how I started into mountain biking. I joined the weekly ride, then a bunch of women started going and we started our own ladies ride night. My bike shop sponsors at least 4 different rides each week from serious road biking to casual rides.

We went to this really cool place on Sunday to mountain bike. It's an art exhibit with these giant structures. They offer air conditioned bus tours but my girlfriends and I are badass...lol and braved the 100 degree heat and 5 miles uphill with 2000 ft of elevation climb. No seriously, it was miserable! The installations are really cool but if I ever go back it better be 70 degrees or less!

This is installation is bigger than my house!

Slow start this month and trying to figure out how to start incorporating more strength training, but my last few rides have been feeling really good. Getting comfortable riding 10-15 miles a few times a week. According to my Garmin I've logged about 200 miles since getting my bike!

They all ride so much faster than me. I'm still between 9-11mph.. 11 with no elevation at all... 9 with about 150-200 elevation.. This is why group rides are hard for me.. 😒

I rode a mile less today than yesterday.. Went a Little faster because I avoided any elevation... I'm hoping to slowly build stamina again... I was hurting while riding today!!!

Also look for a cycling club in your area. Most will have easy paced rides for beginners or families. My club has them for road and MTB.

Just found this thread! Bought my first "real" bike this year (just a hybrid -- kind of regretting not going full road). This is what I've done so far (Strava stats) in August. Current goal is to build endurance.

    8/7 - 14.1 miles at 15.3MPH average
    8/8 - 5.1 miles at 15.0MPH average
    8/9 - 17.8 miles at 14.3MPH average
    8/10 - 9.1 miles at 15.00MPH average
    8/11 - 10.5 miles at 14.8MPH average
    8/12 - 28.4 miles at 12.5MPH average
    8/13 - 9.0 miles at 15.7MPH average
    8/15 - 10.5 miles at 14.9MPH average
    8/16 - 10.3 miles at 15.9MPH average
    8/17 - 9.0 miles at 15.3MPH average
    8/18 - 5.1 miles at 15.5MPH average

Thanks for having me in this thread! Anyone here have any suggestions in terms of riding/"training", if my goal is to increase my endurance/distance?

Relive of yesterdays ride - https://www.relive.cc/view/1780681492 - a bit of dust and grit under the wheels for a change
(making the best of it, before it's a mud-fest like the other 10 months of the year...)

Bit of an up and down week - in more ways than one.

A friend who is doing the Gran Fordo world championships next month asked me to plan a challenging climbing route and act as a guide to the Surrey Hills (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a cycling mecca).
Only 44 miles but six good climbs with big gradients (all the way up to 20%).
    6k97c5w7acfz.png

Really pushed myself hard to avoid being completely smoked on the climbs (PR'd 4 of the hills) but it's flattened me for the rest of the week. Aren't you supposed to get more sensible as you get older?

128 miles for the week, 342 miles for the month.

I'm thinking of training for a century ride. Currently, I use my mountain bike for my rides, even the long ones. But I know I'll have to buy a road bike for a century. I am looking at a triathlon bike. Would you recommend a triathlon bike or just a regular road bike for a century?

    @Rosefern1
I just used a road biased hybrid for my first Century. Downside is that it's not as fast or as efficient as a road bike - but quicker than the MTB with road tyres I used before that for rides up to 60 miles.

Resisted switching to a road bike as I was convinced it would be less comfortable due to my damaged neck and back. But I then entered a 114 mile ride and a friend convinced me to borrow his spare road bike to train on.
Converted me as it was actually more comfortable as well as significantly faster, it also makes it more social when you can keep pace with others without exhausting yourself.

But road bikes have quite a range, on Audax events there's just about every type of bike being used and enjoyed for long rides.
I went for the comfortable end of the spectrum with a Specialized Roubaix which has a quite relaxed geometry. Try before you buy would be my recommendation.

11 miles of singletrack tonight. Had a nasty crash on a transition from a skinny bridge to a skinny bridge. Was tired and got sloppy. Smashed my knee up on my pedal and piledrived my shoulder into the ground. One of those crashes where you gingerly try out your appendages to make sure they all work and point the correct direction.
