Getting very discouraged and frustrated. I've been staying within my 1200 calories but actually gained 2 lbs that I can't seem to lose. It's been almost a week now and just don't know what to do. I've been staying under 50 carbs as directed by my nutritionist. I almost wanted to binge (my usual heck with it attitude) but didn't. I don't want to go back to that. Can anyone relate?

Hi Margie, welcome!
If you can answer some questions, it will be easier to give relevant advice.
1. How did you determine your 1200 calorie goal?
2. Why did your nutritionist direct you to stay under 50 carbs? Do you have a health problem that requires that restriction?
3. Are you weighing all your solid food and measuring all your liquids?
4. I think you're saying you've been at this for less than a week - is that right?
In general:
Body weight fluctuates daily, due to things like water retention, amount of waste in your system, amount of undigested food in your system, things like that. Trying to see actual fat loss inside of a few days is mission impossible. You need to look at trends over time - at least several weeks, better a month or two. Outside of a medical need, there's no reason to limit carbs, or fat or any other macro or food group. It sounds like you are trying to work with a diet that someone else imposed, that isn't a good fit for your satiety and food preferences.
How fast are you trying to lose weight? It's possible that you could eat more than 1200 and still lose (knowing height, current weight and activity level would let us give you some suggestions).0 -
Hi Welcome! Are you weighing yourself at approximately the same time of day? Are you being told to limit your carbs because of pre-diabetes or diabetes? Not all carbs are created equal - and if you are being told to limit your carbs, they probably are referring to the starchy stuff, not wholesome vegetables.
But honestly, I think that one week is too quick to judge if it is working. Give yourself another week. I'm following 1200 calories and I am losing 2 lbs a week.

Where are you getting this from? OP has given no information whatsoever as to any reason for the carb limitation. What do you actually mean by "not all carbs are created equal"? Why are starchy carbs bad but wholesome vegetables are OK? Where do potatoes fit in?1 -
