So i fell down and broke my mid foot ( multiple fractures, might require a surgey and cast). I need to be on crotches for the next 3 months or even more. I put on around 20 lbs this year due to depression/stress and a lot of other factors. These next 3 months sre crucial for me. I am willing to start today and to be on a 1200 calorie meals. Can I lose weight? I am 5 feet and 2 inches, weigh around 172 lbs and a vegetarian ( no eggs, seafood etc.) How should I plan? Can i even lose weight? Any tips? Success stories?

You don't need to exercise to lose weight. The calorie deficit is where it comes from. That being said, while your body is healing, you do need to ensure you are getting enough nutrition from your food. How many calories does MFP give you when you set it for 0.5lb/week? Particularly during these first couple weeks, it will be important for you to get into the habit of logging. Perhaps discuss with your doctor, or ask for a referral to a registered dietician for guidance on which nutrients would be important for you to prioritize while healing.5

You will lose weight if you stick to 1200 calories, even without exercise; the interesting questions are, will you be able to stick to 1200 calories, and should you? I agree with PP, go with a small deficit, and talk to your doctor.2

I don't have any restrictions. My calcium levels are low so i need to make sure I have milk. I am anyways going to be taking supplements so it's ok. Any tips? Any ideas?0

There is lots of great information on here already. I highly recommend doing some reading:

Particularly the sexypants thread.
If you are looking for motivation: check out the success stories forum. I have a specific thread in mind, but can't seem to find it at the moment. If I do, I'll post it for you.

I wouldn't be eating in such a massive deficit with broken bones, you need to heal.3

I am sorry you are suffering and hope you feel better soon! I also am healing from an injury. Not as severe as yours, but still impacting my ability to excercise and move comfortably.
First, sorry if this may be TMI, but the medications you may have been given for pain and swelling are dehydrating and can cause constipation. Keep your fluid intake high and incorporate high fiber ingredients in meals like lentils. Also ginger tea. This can help you stay comfortable while healing.
Second, know your triggers and plan ahead! Your going to be home/resting more than usual and can be easily tempted for comfort foods if bored or in pain. Have some water bottles filled and healthy snacks prepped, and stay out of the kitchen. For me, I also stopped watching TV with commercials. The more ads I saw for pizza/chocolate/ice cream etc. the more I was reminded it existed and then I wanted it.
Third, easy meal prep type meals are key unless you have someone cooking for you. Since you can’t stand/will be on crutches it may be hard to prepare meals daily. I make a big batch of soup /roasted veggies/hummus and have it for the week. Soup is really easy because it just kinda cooks itself. You want meals that don’t need to be fussed over.
Another thing that may come up is friends and family bringing you sugar/salty get well treats. It can be hard to resist once they are already in your house. One well wisher who understands my weight issues brought me some face & hair masks instead of food. It was great and I recommend it for you. Felt very pampered:)
Sorry my reply was so long! I believe this is just a new challenge in your path and that you are completely capable of reaching your goal!:)2
