I'd love to hear some debate on drinking diet coke while attempting to lose weight by counting calories. 😁

If it fits your calorie goal and you like it then it will not negatively impact weight loss.5

I have a friend who does the KETO thing and the one thing he does give himself is Diet Coke and he has lost over 100lbs doing it. If what you are doing is working then stick with it.4

Drank diet coke when I got fat, drank it when I was fat, drank it when I was losing weight, drink it while I maintain at goal weight - I simply prefer the the taste over regular coke. It has virtually no calories and no significance for my weight management. It has the same significance as drinking plain water which I also drink.
Why is it a concern or even a consideration to you OP?10 -
I've heard all the negatives and I just don't care! I have one diet Coke a day after my workout and I will often have a diet something in the evening. Mostly my sparkling water that is loaded with the evil aspartame.2

I've never seen a sweetened sparkling water. Part of the appeal to me is that they are absolutely not sweet. So I've never seen one with aspartame, stevia, sugar....any sweeteners.
Diet Dr Pepper is my jam, not Coke, but the premise is still the same. It has virtually no calories. It doesn't contribute to weight gain.5 -

Fruit2o, sparkling ice are 2 brands w sweeteners. Very tasty.3 -
My husband and I gave it up a number of years ago. But I don't think it is inherently bad. We now drink Deer Park Sparkling water.1

Why would you give diet pop (or any other food or drink) up?
No need to give it up.
Many of us drink diet pop every day, and eat whatever we want as long as we stay within our calorie budget for weight loss. I lost over 1/2 my body weight adhering to all foods in moderation and staying within my daily calorie allotment.
No debate necessary, eating/drinking less calories than your body burns = weight loss. Fact.
I have been drinking pop with artificial sweetener for over 50 years, and I am still around to tell about it. No health issues whatsoever and no prescription meds.4 -
There have been numerous threads about this that you can look up using the search function. But bottom line is Diet Coke is fine. Nothing wrong with it.5

Diet Coke has zero (or nearly zero) calories. It's not much different than drinking water. As a matter of fact, it's about 99.4% water.

I have a sensitivity to Nutrasweet so I try to avoid it. I drink Zevia instead which contains stevia.3

At work we have the small 7.5oz soft drink cans. I will have one diet coke for lunch.3

I expect people to not have to give up much at all to lose weight except eating too many calories for their activity level.
If you are looking to cut or limit something about your diet for weight loss why are you looking at a drink with almost no calories? I think the real debate here is why people insist on suffering.

I have never liked diet sodas. I'd rather have the non diet version, even if it means I can't have a lot of it. I buy Pepsi Mini cans, and have one (or two, sometimes) a day. Each can is 100 calories and it is the perfect amount for me.5

I haven't seen Fruit2O here, I have seen Sparkling Ice. Never tried it though.
I have tried LaCroix, Bubbly, Dasani sparkling, Spendrift....no sweeteners.1 -
There is a thread in the food and nutrition section called "why aspartame isn't scary" which you may find helpful. It was a little too sciencey for me but you might be smarter than I am.2

I’m just not a big fan of the taste of Diet Coke. I drink Coke Zero almost every day. It really helps satisfy that sugary drink craving when I want a variation from water. I really try to limit drinking my calories so that I can stuff my face with all the foods. I find that diet sodas really help. I LOVE diet root beer. Diet cream soda is also crazy good but I haven’t had it in about a year. It can be hard to find.11 -

tl;dr - Aspartame is composed of two amino acids, both of which you get a lot more of from commonly eaten foods than you do in a can of diet soda.4 -
I don’t think there is any evidence to suggest that it’s bad for you, but in my opinion diet sodas are pumped with artificial sweeteners which if you drank a lot of can increase your insulin levels which could lead to weight gain. If you drink it moderately then you’ll be absolutely fine33

If this were a concern surely they wouldn't be recommended for diabestics?! Do you have more info for the claim that they raise insulin levels? I've heard it before but only seen proof against it.10 -

I’ve read it a few times on various websites and forums, I read that they made people drink Diet Coke and normal coke in some expeiriment and those drinking Diet Coke has raised insulin levels which is a scary though!23 -

Oh how could you MsW Zero tastes of Coke. Diet all the way for me. I'm institutionalised to its 90s taste.
