I have never liked diet sodas. I'd rather have the non diet version, even if it means I can't have a lot of it. I buy Pepsi Mini cans, and have one (or two, sometimes) a day. Each can is 100 calories and it is the perfect amount for me.5

I've never seen a sweetened sparkling water. Part of the appeal to me is that they are absolutely not sweet. So I've never seen one with aspartame, stevia, sugar....any sweeteners.
Diet Dr Pepper is my jam, not Coke, but the premise is still the same. It has virtually no calories. It doesn't contribute to weight gain.
Fruit2o, sparkling ice are 2 brands w sweeteners. Very tasty.
I haven't seen Fruit2O here, I have seen Sparkling Ice. Never tried it though.
I have tried LaCroix, Bubbly, Dasani sparkling, Spendrift....no sweeteners.1 -
There is a thread in the food and nutrition section called "why aspartame isn't scary" which you may find helpful. It was a little too sciencey for me but you might be smarter than I am.2

Diet Coke is the devil! Don’t put that swill in your body. It turns straight to fat.
COKE ZERO FOR LIFE!

Note: If you don’t get the joke just keep on scrolling, people, hahaha.
I’m just not a big fan of the taste of Diet Coke. I drink Coke Zero almost every day. It really helps satisfy that sugary drink craving when I want a variation from water. I really try to limit drinking my calories so that I can stuff my face with all the foods. I find that diet sodas really help. I LOVE diet root beer. Diet cream soda is also crazy good but I haven’t had it in about a year. It can be hard to find.11 -

tl;dr - Aspartame is composed of two amino acids, both of which you get a lot more of from commonly eaten foods than you do in a can of diet soda.4 -
I don’t think there is any evidence to suggest that it’s bad for you, but in my opinion diet sodas are pumped with artificial sweeteners which if you drank a lot of can increase your insulin levels which could lead to weight gain. If you drink it moderately then you’ll be absolutely fine33

If this were a concern surely they wouldn't be recommended for diabestics?! Do you have more info for the claim that they raise insulin levels? I've heard it before but only seen proof against it.10 -

I’ve read it a few times on various websites and forums, I read that they made people drink Diet Coke and normal coke in some expeiriment and those drinking Diet Coke has raised insulin levels which is a scary though!23 -
Someone should tell type 1 diabetics about this miracle cure.5

I'm going to guess that the point of whatever you read was to scare you, since I know diabetics who drink diet soda with no visible change to their levels. It isn't something you need to do an experiment on. There are diabetics all over the world who are drinking diet soda and monitoring their levels.MsHarryWinston wrote: »Diet Coke is the devil! Agreed. Coke Zero is the pinnacle of soda supremacy. Cherry specifically, though plain is like half a half a step down. Someday I will find Vanilla Coke Zero and then I will be able to die in peace.8 -

CARBONATED WATER, CARAMEL COLOR, ASPARTAME, PHOSPHORIC ACID, POTASSIUM BENZOATE (TO PROTECT TASTE), NATURAL FLAVORS, CITRIC ACID, CAFFEINE.
Coke Zero:

vanilla coke zero is so good.
does ur fast food chain have those custom soda fountain machines? u can make your own. they have a coke zero base, and u can add lime, vanilla, cherry, etc.
I have heard tell of these magical create-your-own soda machines, but clearly the north/mid atlantic coast of the US is not a place where my soda options are fully respected.
I sometimes see regular Vanilla Coke in the store and am tempted to waste the calories on it, but ultimately decide to get the Cherry Coke Zero and continue hoping.
Can someone tell me how to pronounce acesulfame please? Is it "ace" "sulfame"? Or "Ah-seh-sulfame"? Because once I can pronounce it I can pronounce all the ingredients in Coke Zero and drink it without shame.10 -

I don’t think it was trying to scare me, it was just bringing it to my attention, it did say that these people had to drink a lot of the stuff for it to spike their insulin levels .. it’s all about the body tasting something sweet and getting prepared to have that but then when the sugar doesn’t actually come it imbalances stuff .. it was really interesting as opposed to scary21 -

The problem is, that's not how the body works. Again, this is something that is easily verifiable in a lab. The endocrine system releases insulin when it senses glucose present in the blood that needs to be ushered into your cells, it doesn't release insulin based on taste.14 -

It would be nice to see the actual experiment instead of a summary of an article written by someone who maybe saw the actual experiment or maybe heard about it from a friend or something who may or may not have had any qualifications to be commenting on the study. So many articles report on these studies and get them completely twisted that I don't trust anything unless I have a link to the actual science anymore.
Seriously, why would the ADA recommend diet soda for diabetics if it's potentially deadly for them?12 -

The pinnacle is Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero, but I can only get it in the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines.
