Super tired and stressed about something and I'm eating like crap to compensate. Chocolate, ice cream etc. Any words of wisdom? I know better but I feel like quitting.

Don't quit!! I have been a stress eater too. A friend posted a sign on her fridge that said "It's not in here", to remind herself that food will not solve the problem, and will add stress when you gain weight. Be gentle with yourself, but still track everything you are eating.

Same boat. I don't overeat as often these days (have had/will have 5 this last 2 weeks, iirc). I don't have any words to make you feel better other than you're not alone.

Many of us out here are stress eaters. Yes it is hard to break as I am finding out. Do you know what is causing the stress? Can you change something so that you are no longer stressed? If you are going to snack, how about snacking on something healthy like a fruit or a vegetable? If you are craving something sweet, how about a smoothie made with milk and fruits instead of refined sugar? I have eliminated a lot of the junk food from my house, like potato chips, candy, ice cream, etc... And what I do have, it is tucked away so that when I go looking for something to snack or eat, it is not right in my face. Rather it is tucked away in my baking supplies (which I am usually not in mood to bake when I am hungry). Instead I have stocked up on fruit and vegetables. Also, I have found that making a shopping list before I go to the grocery store helps to keep from making those impulse buys like a bag of chips, soda, or ice cream. Plus I give myself a cheat day where I can eat extra calories on that day (in my case 500 as I am big guy, starting off at 300 pounds), which usually means a mocha instead of a plain coffee. Plus for me, I have posted my goal on my Facebook page and I am making updates so that my friends and family can give me encouragement for those down days when I feel like giving up. Don't give up! Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

Thank you for all this helpful and encouraging advice. I can definitely make some of these changes. I could also throw away the ice cream. Should I do that? Lol

Why not plan that ice cream into your daily calories? I have a bowl of cereal every night - it’s the first thing each day that I program in to make sure I have the calories for it

I had an interesting experience recently which has made me rethink this issue-

A loved one developed a little stomach bug while traveling. Nothing horrible but it limited his ability to eat. Over the course of a couple of days, he became progressively more anxious. To the point that he had to cut short his trip because he was so anxious.

We realized that he had long been managing his anxiety and stress by eating. And when that option was unavailable, the wheels really fell off that bus.

The point for you being that this may not be the best time to ‘fix’ the stress eating problem. You may be better served by ‘getting’ through the current episode and addressing the undesired behavior later.
