A 2nd Chance at Life and a Wedding

Greetings all!
I had received a gift a few years back, that at the time seemed anything but. I was nearly killed and had a very long road to recovery. For the first time in my life I actually took a long look at myself. During that time I gained weight but started making adjustments in my diet. I lost around 70 lbs. Then I ended up meeting the most wonderfully amazing and beautiful woman and we've decided to get married. since then I've had a couple of set backs and picked up some weight. I would like to lose 100 lbs. Currently I am 325, 6'2" and 52 years old. Is it possible to lose it by the end of next May? If not realistic what would a realistic expectation be by that point?

Congratulations! I can't address the question you ask, although it does come up to around 9+ pounds a month. But would it matter if you "only" lost 50 or 75 or 90? I try not to set my heart on a particular number and then just work as hard as I can to do the best I can.

Congrats I'm also getting married in May. My goal is to lose 50lbs. I'm 230 I want to be 180. If I can lose more great but if not it's ok.

Congratulations! I think it would be somewhat aggressive goal but can probably be achieved. You will have to be diligent about it and know that you might not hit the 100 mark exactly, or you might go over! Just depends on how dedicated you are to the process.

    Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!!!!
Re the weight loss.... can it be done? Possibly, but there are a lot of variables.

Losing 2lb a week may be possible at your current weight, but as you lose, the rate may slow down. Or not- everyone’s body is different.
You may also decide that losing 2lb per week gives you a calorie goal that isn’t satisfying- you may need to eat more than that, and so may like to consider a slower rate of loss (Id be ravenous if I had to eat at a calorie goal that enabled me to lose 2lb per week).

Enter your stats into MFP, pick a rate of loss, start weighing and logging your food in order to hit your daily calorie goal, and see how you go.... whatever the results, you’ll be making positive changes to your health, and will lose weight if you eat at the deficit given. And that’s a great start!

    Good luck!

Thank you Everyone and Congratulations to MixedbarbieMOM1991 on her May wedding!! Sorry I hadn't been able to reply back but was having an issue with my account. I have so far lost 10 pounds, Not really sure if that good or not ( the rate of Loss ) but I think one of my issues may be my schedule being a bit crazy ( working between 12-15 hr days with shifts in the start and end times.) so my eating schedule was kind of all over the place. I was also sick for 2 weeks. I am really don't know if any of this has any effect on weight loss. Good news is that my schedule has stabilized so I am finally starting to eat on more of a schedule. So to answer some of the questions, I would have to say ultimately I want to feel better and get healthier. Obviously I would like to drop the weight to look better. No I guess I am not really fixed on specific amount of weight to lose OR even an ending weight Goal. I want to be able to have a long and healthy life with my Fiancé that we can enjoy together.

Congratulations on the wedding. And ten pounds lost. And not don't!! All of these are so exciting. Others have given you great responses to whether or not it's possible, which ultimately bike down to: it depends.

To answer your question about timing of eating, no it doesn't have an impact. I say that conditionally though. The most important thing for losing weight is making sure you are in a calorie deficit for an extended period of time. Where timing of meals is important is keeping yourself satisfied. If you are given X number of calories to eat per day and you eat them all by noon, but you aren't going to bed until 10pm, that may be a hungry 10 hours. Or it might not. However many calories you have to eat for the day are yours to use however you see fit. You get to pick not only what you eat but when you eat.

It can take some time to figure out what foods keep you satisfied as well as what time you should eat them to keep yourself from getting hangry. I also know really well how scary it is to be hungry. I know that sounds weird but part of the journey for me, and maybe for your as well, is getting over the gear of being hungry. Not starving myself, but letting myself get a little hungry before I next ate. I had to relearn how to listen to my body and know when it was telling me I was actually hungry as opposed to bored or thirsty (sometimes when you're thirsty it feels like you hungry which is part of why it's recommended to drink some water before you eat).

I'm really excited for you and your journey. It's ok that you don't know what your goal weight is right now. You might change your mind 500 times and that's ok. As you said, you want to be healthier and that's the best goal, in my opinion.

Start off simple. Out your info into MFP and decide on a date of loss. At your weight you could do 2 pounds per week since you want to try and not lose more than 1% of your body weight per week. But, figure out what is best for you because it's all personal. Then, just work on figuring out how to get foods you like into your calorie goal. Logging everything will potentially be your best friend. It doesn't work for everyone but it lets your know if you're on track and let's you look at what you're eating to decide if it's satisfying you. Foods aren't evil but some get you to your goal faster. Remember that it's a marathon and not a sprint. But at the end of the day, any small changes you are able to make help you get to that goal of living a longer, healthier life with the one you love.

10 lbs a month as an overall average is tough but definitely doable.

I would advise you to measure your body before you get too far into it. Because even on weeks you don't lose weight, it is entirely possible you will still lose inches. Doing measurements will help keep you from getting discouraged when you see fluctuations on the scale - which are pretty inevitable.

    Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Thanks and congratulations Angeamgeorge18! Thanks Skram01 & Brneydgrlie!
I really don't measure, never thought about it, but rather I go by the 'fit' of whatever I'm wearing. Not a bad Idea maybe I'll do that between weighing myself.
I have started using MFP to not only log my meals but also in planning and prepping meals and menus. This way not only will I be able to figure out what to prep out for the following day but if something happens to where I cant get to my prepped food I will have an idea of what options will work for a replacement meal. I am very serious about getting this weight to come off. If its roughly 2 lbs. per week this will give me about 7 and a half month or approximately 30 weeks till the wedding. At the 2 pounds per week that's 60 lbs. and that's REALLY NOT BAD. Biggest thing is that I will be healthier.
