I love this app I really do but I’m trying to lose weight and it says I need to eat 2300 calories in day which really confuses me. If that’s the case I’m definitely not eating enough. I’m no nutrition expert I just wanted to see if anyone else had his happen

I'm sure some other people have had this happen - those who are large and have lots to lose. Or are tall active men.
Perhaps post your stats - age, gender, current weight and activity level - and we can ascertain if this amount seems right.5 -
We all have our own kcal goal to help us loose weight. And 2300 can be accurate!
But in order to help you, we need more information.... How tall are you, how much do you weight, are you very active during the day?4 -
I have looked at my BMR and TDEE calculations and they very much tally with the calculations done by MFP on this site. The trick is just to record everything - food, beverages and exercise. The only thing I haven't found yet is patience. Oh well - it took me years to end up on 170 kg, - 375 pounds - so it will take some time again to get beck to a healthier weight...8

I maintain quite happily on 2650ish calories so for me 2300 would be a slow/steady rate of loss - the problem is that we are conditioned to believe that losing weight needs to be painful and suffer13

Double check your settings (make sure hieght, weight, age, gender are all correct). Also consider your activity level selection. Did you select an activity level that doesn’t include exercise (just daily activity like work) or did you select a higher activity level to account for exercise? MFP doesn’t want you to include exercise in your activity level selection.
So if you checked all that and it looks right, than that might be an appropriate goal for you. It’s just an estimate. You will need to adjust up or down based on actual results.
I lose on 2000 a day when I am active. Actually at my heaviest I didn’t even need to be active to lose while eating 2000 a day. As I got smaller I had to increase activity so I could continue to eat 2000 a day.8 -

That’s because you and MFP are both simply estimating and you’re using similar estimating equations. It does NOT mean that if you MEASURED your BMR/TDEE that those numbers would be accurate.4 -
Thank you everyone! I’ve read all the reply’s and now I’m confident and am going to follow what the app says. I’m not sure how to reply to each individual person since this is my first fitness app that I talk on a forum. But I appreciate all of your replies 🤗8

When you setup MFP what did you say was your activity level? The higher you say you active level is it will give you more calories. Them muscle bound guy and gals that compete eat a great deal more calories, but that is cause they burn more trying to build muscle in the gym.
Sometimes people tweek MFP by saying they are sedentary lifestyle when they are not, that way MFP will give them the lowest calorie per day goal.2 -
I wish i could lose on that many calories6

Some great replies here. MFP gave me 1200. I have been maintaining my weight on that and losing the odd bit. My P.T.reset my calories this week to 1742 with a higher protein level. I am watching with interest now. I rely on MFP and my P.T. I am going to reach my goal this time.0

My gross calories to lose weight are anywhere between 2100 & 3000 per day, depending on how active I have been, continued to lose weight as planned when I have logged accurately and stuck to my calories.2

Oh nice! I was confused when I saw the big number but it makes sense. I was jogging 2 miles almost everyday at an incline but I’m going to start hitting my work gym 3 times a day now. Thank you for your reply ^_^1 -

Doing too much can lead to burnout or even injury.

But when you set up your activity level, that should not include how much you exercise. MFP will give you credit for your exercise. The way MFP works with activity level is how active are you during the day minus exercise. Do you have an active job? For example, do you work a retail job, or food service job or construction job that would have you running around all day that would set your activity level at lightly active or active? Or do you have a desk job? That would set you maybe at sendentary.0
