What to bring on a diabetic person visit [solved]

I'm visiting my godfather tomorrow and I haven't seen him for 4 years. He was diagnosed with diabetes after cancer treatment. I can't go empty handed but everything I can think of has sugar in it and he isn't eating any as far as he's told me. I can't bring him cheese and crackers, it isn't gift appropriate.

It doesn't need to be food actually but what do you bring on a visit of this sort then? (It's a family visit, not a hospital visit. My family is visiting his.)

Please suggestions.

Edit: I got a great suggestion and I'll get him a potted orchid. Thanks.

    A book?

That's a good suggestion. What concerns me is that I sent him a book for his birthday last year and also that his wife might feel ignored.

Maybe a plant? Can you ask someone in his family what they think? "I'd really like to bring something but I'm not sure what he can or can't have"

Ha! That's a great idea! I think I'll get him an orchid! Thanks! That's set then.

(I can't ask because I'm not close with his wife)
