You’re 31?? Pfft....I’m 53, I’m going through menopause, and I’m not nearly as active as you are. When I accurately weigh and log everything, I lose. It’s not easy, but it is simple. I don’t know why you’re so resistant to the idea.
i don’t care how old you are 31 is older than 17, 21, and 26 which was the point i was making. i swear people go through this thread looking for anything pick out to make out you just don’t want to eat less. i simply questioned if it would make a difference seeing as i lost 3 stone easily before and i can’t now. i lost over 7 stone in my life time. i am not resistant. i am finding it harder than in the past. if anyone else wants to patronise me then just do one thanks
i think you need to take a step back..,. you're taking things really personally when people are only trying to help.
instead of reading things as attacks on you, look at the advice you've been given.16 -
OP, I'm just going to leave this here for you: https://bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/why-big-caloric-deficits-and-lots-of-activity-can-hurt-fat-loss.html/6

wow interesting read, and yes on top of increasing my exercise dramatically, and a defecit i have also had a stressful year. cortisol and metabolism rate could be a factor. this certainly could explain why weight loss is not as simple for me as it was when i had low activity and looking back low stress levels too. thank you for that interesting article.5 -

Diet break as per Toad's recommendation (eating at maintenance for at least two weeks), then start again with a smaller deficit. People don't realise just what an impact chronically high cortisol levels can have, both in terms of fluid retention and in messing up fat loss.5 -

i have also read that poor sleep effects cortisol, which i could improve, i am always often tired, i easily fall asleep around 4pm each day, another reason i got tested for any thyroid problems, other symptoms such as dry hair and skin, cold, etc could i imagine also be an effect of too much cortisol maybe that would make sense.
i will have a break for two weeks and then reduce my defecit.

i took your advice and stood back i have looked at people’s responses and stand by the fact that a lot of people didnt listen to me, a lot of people chose certain sentences in long paragraphs of info to attack and patronise me, only two people actually answered my original question, however the positive from it is with help from yourself and a couple of others who did take the time to understand what i was saying have helped me massively. so thank you very much.
i have created a new account, re set my goals and the fact that is has told me to eat 2,310 calories to lose 1lb a week at my weight and activity levels has opened my eyes to just how crazy aiming for 1,300-1,600 was and how much stress iv put myself under physically, mentally and emotionally.
i will trust the calculations now and will hopefully see better results if this is down to cortisol, metabolism and stress issues. have to admit increasing my calories by a few hundred a day does seem scary but i’d rather do that then put chemicals in my body to give my the *kitten* if i eat stuff i know i shouldn’t and have no effect when i don’t which is most of the time!

booksandchocolate12 wrote: »I'm confused. Are you taking Orlistat or aren't you? Your original question was regarding how much fat you should consume while taking them, so I assumed you were, and now THREE WHOLE DAYS after your original post, you've decided that they don't work, so I assume you're not. Quick question: What did you think would happen in three days?
You've been told by several people that the only way to lose weight is to eat at a deficit. There are many ways to achieve a deficit, but you say that you can't, although I'm still not sure why.
I think many of us would like to help you. Do you want our help, or do you just want to cling to the belief that your body won't let you lose weight?
if you read all of my posts more carefully your confusion of all of the above you’ve said will lessen and there will be NO NEED for capitals.
I don’t need help from that kind of response no.

For me, nope. I have to have at least a few days of no chocolate snacks (I do have others instead). It was 15g of fat that you could have done without on a plan that has notorious outfit destroying side effects.
Just my opinion though.
I came home from work, where i walked 7 miles, i had not eaten since 8am it was 3:30pm, my mum had collected my son from school and popped into the shop and had bought me a chocolate bar, so yes on day one i ate one, i was also a little curious as to what would happen, and seeing as i was at home i thought i’d try it in a safe environment! so hopefully that makes sense now!2 -
So, to recap:
1. You’re not going to take the Orlistat;
2. You’ve recalculated/reset your goals and are going to eat more;
3. You’ve figured out that cortisol/stress/metabolism issues were preventing you from losing weight.
You don’t mention that you’re going to start weighing and logging, but I assume you are. Otherwise how will you know if you’re meeting your new calorie goal?
I’m happy you’ve resolved the issue and sincerely wish you luck.

I'll be honest I used this around 14 years ago and it was vile.
My advice - eat and cook with as little fat/grease as possible. It isn't sustainable in the long term as you need a certain amount of fat for a healthy diet.
Any medication that has ANAL SEEPAGE as a VERY COMMON side effect should be banned in my opinion. I hated it, last around 4 weeks and gave up!4 -
Sounds like you're on the right track now but just wanted to reinforce the refeed/diet break idea. I got stuck for 3 months and found a week at maintenance calories got me going again. I gained a couple pounds that week but they came right back off. Also watch the calorie burn from the Fitbit. Some folks have said it over estimates. It sounds like you are doing lots of exercise but I'd just be cautious until you find your sweet spot. Good luck my friend it can happen for you and it's worth going slow and taking it off in a way that you can keep it off.0

Li5a87MFP, I've taken Alli on and off for years, when I do take them at most was one a day, often every other day, one every few days. they help move poo along regularly.. My experience when dieting, if I'm not going, I'm not loosing. I know the directions say one with each meal that sounds crazy and like many have said can lead to disaster. My advice start by one every other day, then everyday, none on the day you finish off a half jar of peanut butter, 2lbs of bacon, rack of ribs ect.0
