If it appears like advertising for what I call Junk Science Weight Loss Scams - Adult Entertainment etc I use the Spam button.
Personal Attacks = abuse
General Trash = report

If you look up thread you will see that most people provide the link to the offending post so others can get to it and Spam Button it into Jail, also helps the moderators quickly drop the hammer on it.

Personal attacks are to be reported as well. Abuse is for blatant abuse such as pornographic images.

For those wondering, here's a recap of what the flags are to be used for vs. the report feature:
The policy for flagging content reads:

Spam:
Use this flag to report BOT style spam. If its a non-sense post with a link or one account posting a flood of posts about an astrology hotline, then please use this flag to report it. 5 flags will automatically move that content into the spam queue to be reviewed by our moderators. Items in the spam queue are hidden until they are either approved by a moderator as not being spam or are deleted by a moderator after being verified as spam.

If a person is advertising (i.e. buy my great new product), please use the Reported Posts flag.

Abuse:
Use this flag to report extreme abuse of our guidelines; such as posting of pornographic images or hate speech. 5 flags will automatically move that content into the abuse queue to be reviewed by our moderators. Items in the abuse queue are hidden until they are either approved by a moderator as not being abuse or are deleted by a moderator after being verified as abuse. Items marked for abuse should be both severe and urgent. If it does not meet this criteria it will be approved by a moderator and returned to the community without further action.

If in doubt, go ahead and report.

And just a note to the thread.....

People have really upped the game in killing spam in the last year or so. I often flag stuff on the first page that has almost as many flags as views, and in some cases 1 flag per view. So as often as not, the spam doesn't even make it to the second page.

Great job by the community in helping out the mods and admins!

This gang of spammers is particularly prolific. I've seen their "work" on other forums and it's become necessary to *kitten* ******* certain words they use, like passport...I'm pretty annoyed they have started here, because it won't be just this one spammer, it's going to be a whole lot of them if it's like other forums they've used.
