Apple Watch Steps & Activity Workout

Question: I use my Apple Watch to track my daily steps and cardio workouts. Does adding the cardio workout double count my steps??
Example: this morning I went for a 70 minute walk. I completed 9,400 steps and the calories recorded are -140. I used my Apple activity app to record my outdoor walk. It has recorded active calories of 365. If I add my workout to myfitnesspal it gives me another -365 calories but wouldn’t the -365 already include the -140 which was from the steps? Should I really be using the net of 365-140?

Nope, the opposite. Apple Watch will credit you steps up and until you then record a work out. Once you have recorded a work out, Apple Watch then deletes your credit for steps to avoid double crediting.
Makes sense if you have run or walked during your workout but it’s annoying if for instance your work out was a swim. You lose all the credit for the walking you did earlier. Ah well.1 -
I’m slightly unclear here because I do HIIT workouts and it does count steps.0
