HELP! Alternative to the birthday cake?!

It's my sister's 18th birthday tomorrow and I'm SUPER excited to celebrate it with her! Unfortunately (or fortunately?), everyone in my family has become a health nut since I joined MFP (serious NSV right there). I don't want to make her a traditional birthday cake and end up with massive leftovers, so...
Do you have any ideas for a lower fat / lower sugar birthday cake or about other birthday dessert suggestions altogether? She's a chocolate lover and ideally, I'd love to still have her blow out candles on whatever the dessert turns out to be. Thanks!!

what about baked apples, with s/f cool whip?0

replace the oil in a regular cake with applesauce, cook it about 3 minutes less then you otherwise would. The flavor is pretty much the same, the cake it self has a whole lot less fat.
Then dust it with powdered sugar, not the same as frosting, but it will be pretty and add some no sugar added vanilla icecream with fresh rasberry sauce (or just the berries).
Super tasty and pretty... fully worthy of a candle0 -

I need a plan for this too, it's my birthday next month haha0

What about one of those big edible arrangement things. They are really cute and full of fruit and chocolate covered strawberries.0

Try Deep Chocolate Vitatops! Yum, much like a cupcake, super chocolatey and moist but only 100 cal, 9 gm fiber.0

Mini cupcakes!!0

Angel food cake is always a good alternative. For frosting - use fat free cool whip mixed with sugar free chocolate pudding (unprepared).0

I second the Edible Arrangement thing...you can even get them made in a birthday cake container!0

yum!!! we also do fruit pizzas some time or angel food cake. you could drizzle some chocolate syrup on it as well.0 -
Cheesecake? I know of a tonnnnnn of great cheesecake recipes that are great on the health side of the world.
Bread pudding? Know of good recipes for that too.
Black bean brownies?!!?! High protein, and mid on F and C?0 -
Cupcakes! They are delicious, small and you can make just enough for everyone to have one (so no leftovers). Also you can make them as rich and decadent or as healthy as you wish.0

Take a box caked mix and add only a can of diet soda to it and bake. moistest, no oil, no eggs, tastes awesome!0

How about angel food cake with FF cool whip and drizzle with choc. syrup?
Or an angel food cake mix with a can of pineapple(and that is it) in it!
LOTS of good ideas already posted!0 -

make brownies and layer them to look like a cake, take 1 piece and let everyone else have the rest.0

Wow, these are all awesome suggestions!! I'll work it out with my mom and figure out what we can do! Thanks for all your thoughtful responses!0

Banana cream pie with sugar free pudding and reduced fat cool whip, bananas, vanilla wafers and candles? Or try a chocolate pudding mix instead!!0

Another idea is a cake ball....bake a cake (you could do the applesauce thing) and while the cake is still warm crumble it all up. Add frosting to it and then scoop with a small scoop (a little bigger than a melon ball scoop). You can freeze these. One is about 2 bites & gives you the flavor of cake & frosting but it's only 2 bites. You can combine all kinds of flavors and roll in nuts or coconut but that ups the calorie content.
Good luck!0 -

And you can lay stencils on the cake to spell out words. I do that with the cookies I bake for my son's preschool on his birthday every year. If you can't find stencils just cut letters out of cardboard.0 -
angel food cake cupcakes with whipped cream for frosting. You can add some orange zest to the angel food or play around with other flavors. A slice of strawberry on top makes a pretty, tasty decoration.
I would splurge on real whipped cream that you make yourself. No preservatives and a cupcake doesn't have too much frosting on it. You also control the sugar without any artificial stuff.0 -

My birthday is coming up too and I fantasize about a nice big slice of the most chococaley cheese cake. I fully plan on eating a slice too, I'm just going to be busting my butt at the gym before and after so I feel better about doing it. I figure that your birthday comes once a year and if you've been good, you deserve to celebrate not only your bday but your success as well!0 -
I recently saw an episode of Hungry Girl where she made a Banana Split Pie that looked really good, only 172 calories per serving. It is an ice cream pie so you will need some time to let it freeze. Just do a google search for hungry girl.0

Someone at my school used white cake mix, diet orange soda and mandarin oranges. It was soooo good!0 -
If you still want something totally decadent but not quite so bad as regular cake, how about a flourless dark chocolate cake? They also tend to be so rich that a small sliver will totally satisfy even the most ardent chocolate lover (I speak from experience!).0

This is one of my most favorite cupcake recipes ever - http://www.notquitenigella.com/2008/08/26/persian-love-cupcakes/
If you make 12 cupcakes with this recipe, the cake part by itself is only 64 calories per serving - then ice it with whatever you want. If you're concerned about fat, then maybe mix some rosewater in with Cool Whip or something? But for a special occasion, the whipped cream icing really is amazing, especially with the saffron, and I use less sugar than they call for in the icing.
WITH the whipped cream and pistachios, they are only 154 calories each. They are light and wonderful and the spices are so, so good (and easily interchangeable if you don't like cardamom and saffron).0 -
Fresh fruit tart? Berry shortcake? Fresh fruit and yogurt parfait? Fresh fruit kabob? Fruit pizza?0
-
mix a diet soda with a chocolate cake mix - low cal and super good0

Bingo! I tried some healthier cupcakes not to long ago and while they were edible they weren't birthday cake quality. I'll be forty this year and it'll be the first non-obese birthday in years. I'm going to dress up a little, have whatever I want for a birthday dinner, have some cake, get drunk then get up the next morning go back to my healthy routine.0
