I have just started the work up to determine my eligibility for a double lung transplant. I have Stage 5 COPD caused by emphysema. I hope to be on the list in early 2019.

I am looking for advice for anyone that has had the surgery, and other patient still waiting.

Not sure how many others here will be in your situation, but I wish you the best of luck!

There's an active lung transplant community in the forums at cysticfibrosis.com (for obvious reasons). I'm sure the folks on the other side with new lungs would be happy to talk to you even though you got to the point of transplant via a different path.

My mom had a double lung transplant in 2010 through Duke Hospital. They saved her life. She lived 7 more years post transplant. The evals want to see that you are a good candidate medically and also if you are willing to get as physically fit and healthy and possible before surgery. Because the work you put in before will determine your outcome. They take the fitness very seriously so you are in a good place for that! Once you get into a program and on the list you will be swooped up into the transplant centers information and you will fine a community and fellowship amongst the other recipients. My mom made some amazing friends and supportive people during her pre and post transplant time. Best of luck!
