In the old days, film cost money to buy, and to develop, so you had to be frugal with your shots. Now pixels are free, and everybody does a little spray and pray. Unfortunately I can be indecisive.

I'm putting together a photo book of cycling pictures for a friend. I can't decide between these two, would love some feedback or I'll have to flip a coin. I already have plenty of photos with bikes in them, so that's not really a factor in this choice.

That first one makes me want to buy a plane ticket to wherever it is.

Wow, it's unanimous! I'm glad I asked, I was leaning toward the second one, but the memory of being there that day can be hard to separate from the pics themselves.
That first one makes me want to buy a plane ticket to wherever it is.

Meadows campground at Harts Pass, near Mazama Wa. The road closes for the season, it will open again around July 4 and will be full of wildflowers.

    Personal preference is the second.

The dip in the landscape draws me in. (It has a hard focus) The handlebars, I, personally, would have preferred not to have them in the pic, but they do work.

The first one I also love. It is the wide open vista of the same landscape. You must have taken them seconds apart.

Look at what you are saying in your narrative. Is it time to draw the viewer in, or are you wanting them to feel as though they are 'free'.

Look to your narrative as, as always, your eye is excellent.

    Cheers, h.

Definitely first one. I love the way you can see the path fading into the distance. It makes me want to follow it to see where it goes!

As a photographer, I vote top one as well. I do like the second one, but think it could use a lens correction to remove some of the fish eye effect.

I like the first one as the trail suggest a journey and moving through the landscape, that's the essence of cycling for me.

Too much sky in the second for my tastes and handlebars really aren't interesting.

First one, especially since I've walked on that road.

first one, especially since you don't need the bike, there is more road and I like the way it fades into the distance

They are both beautiful but I would have picked the second. I love the angle of the road Vs landscape in the second, the illusion of more unmarked land(how can you tell I am a backcountry hiker) than road to explore, and the darker blues in the sky.

The first one needs the right quarter cropped off so that the Fibonacci focal point is in the right place.

The second one is better because the bike creates a harmonious rule of thirds focal point.

It's interesting that these two very similar photos have such a different feel to them. The openness of the first one gives me a feeling of freedom and adventure while the second one feels much more desolate, yet I find it very captivating. I think I'm in the minority here in that I find the second one more intriguing in that I feel like it better captures the emotion of the landscape.
