Halloween Candy!

From all the weekend functions, we have already acquired quite the stash of tempting candy and that’s not even all the candy we’ll get tonight! I have 3 young kids so I hold the candy for them and give them pieces every now and then. I’ve been doing great, averaging 1 lb a week for the last few months. I’ve been very motivated and it’s been easy so far to stay on track because I’ve been seeing such a difference and I love it. But now I just want to stuff my face with bite size Twix and Nerds and pieces of Starburst!! I have had some and I always log it in. I think I’ll have to grab a few for the day from the stash and have my husband hide the rest. Lol! What are you doing to avoid temptation? Don’t comment if you don’t have this issue because you don’t have kids or “just don’t like candy” because that’s irrelevant to me and completely unhelpful.

Pre-logging my food for the day helps with stuff like this. If I already have all my calories for the day planned out and don’t have room for more I’m less likely to indulge because I know it will make me go over my calorie goal.

I’ve also had my husband hide things from me - I’m really short so he usually just puts it up somewhere high :D

Lol! I’m short too but I have numerous stools around the house.

    That’s a good idea to pre-log.

Fit it in your day, freeze it, put it out of sight, have a portion only at certain times of the day (for me that is preworkout)

I have a 3 year old and I work in a school filled with treats...at home I have his Halloween bucket on top of the fridge pushed out of my reach, so if I want a piece of candy I will have to drag over a chair to get it. That helps me to not mindlessly munch. That being said, I've definitely had a few pieces here and there, and logged them and am trying to do better. I like the suggestion of pre-logging your day if possible!

It's Halloween, I already know how this is going to go: 7pm is going to roll around and I'm going to want something sweet. I've already decided what I'm having: a piece of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread with cream cheese frosting with a nice cozy mug of Stash decaf mint chocolate oolong tea. Go big or go home, right?!
  • @Kimmotion5783 Omg, that Trader Joe's loaf is amazing! Enjoy the Halloween festivities! 🎃

The dreaded Halloween candy! I'll reduce my calories slightly for lunch & dinner to anticipate those, um..."candy inspections". I'm getting good with the candy as I stay away from 240+ calorie candy bars and opt instead for something like Good & Plenty's, which is 140 calories for 33 pieces. It takes me longer to eat 33 pieces than it does a candy bar so it's a psychological win with myself!

Our kids are grown. But I’ve lost 100lbs and it’s been gone for years. In part by fighting my sweet tooth to a draw.

When I started I did a lot of research on treats. I finally settled something they don’t make anymore, Weight Watchers Giant Fudge Cup ice cream, I think it was called. A workable satisfying portion. But here was the deal, give in to some other treat- no ice cream. I eat ice cream nearly everyday. All planned. If it’s a frozen treat of some kind, I’ve probably tried it. Current favorite is Publix no sugar added.

Halloween candy. I fought this battle too. The problem with those bite size things is it takes about 8 bites to get anywhere near what I think a portion is. So the bite size is really a nasty trick.

But besides ice cream, I’ve also experimented with dark chocolate. There are some stores nearby that carry some really good dark chocolate. Do a taste test.

What happened for me was I decided that about 99% of the candy around is just bad candy, not worth the calories. I think of it as kid candy. If seeing all the Halloween stuff leaves me craving candy, believe me, I’m going to have some candy. But it won’t be the milk chocolate kid stuff. I’m going for quality. And I’ll have to go out and get it.

Last- things that are hidden get found. Try the garage bin. Your coworkers, family and friends are fighting the same battle as you. The garage bin is the only way out.

I just bought candy yesterday so i wouldn't have it laying around. My daughters candy she gets is stickly hers an I would get yelled at even if i tried to eat it. Whoever the last kid is that comes to my house is going to be leaving with whatever is left from the two bags i bought. GET IT OUT OF HERE OR ILL EAT IT ALL!

But how do you know it's the last kid? We always have a few late strays ringing the bell and annoying my husband

In the past I've made myself earn candy via exercise calories. It opens your eyes to how much more of an effect food has on calories than exercise does. Even a killer workout is only going to get you so much candy, but it still puts some in reach without destroying CICO.

Love those little buggers, heat them in the microwave for about 10 seconds...makes them a lot better !

I’m going to pull a little out of my daughter’s stash & then go put the whole bucket in my husbands car trunk. I can’t have over 2 pounds of candy in this house.

We have a ton of candy leftover. It was rainy and cold, and being a Wednesday a lot of churches had activities tonight

I brought candy back into my diet a couple months back by getting a bag of fun size bars for my lunch kit. I put one bar in the zipper pocket of my lunch kit each day and have it as a treat in the afternoon. That way when I am eating it, the rest of the bag is safely at home. I know if I were eat one at home I’ll want the whole bag. But eating at work from my pre packed lunch bag means the rest of the bag is unavailable.

As for the kids - I’m just going to let them go nuts for a few days and be normal next week when the candy is gone.

I just eat as much as I want on the day and then get the rest out of my sight and forget about it. I can't throw it out coz my daughter wants it, so it's in her halloween treat bag and she eats it for another 2-3 months (it's not that much candy, just that she's a slow eater, whereas i'd eat the entire bag in one sitting).

One day of candy bingeing won't kill me.

Thanks for all the replies! I decided that there’s a new tradition in our house for Halloween - come home after trick or treating, empty the buckets on the floor and go nuts. Lol! That’s what we did. It was fun and I don’t feel guilty this morning. I then pulled out 3 pieces for each kid for the day and had my husband hide the rest. Then I’ll have him pull it out for the kids every day. I won’t eat the candy set aside daily for them so this works for me. And the fact that I did partake in the candy binging last night satisfied my cravings so I’m good to go now! Oh, also I had a microscopic dinner before we went out so I did have a good 500 calories saved. Hence the no guilt. ;)

My husband and I are putting all the candy from our two boys (2 and 4yo) into different sandwich baggies. Half will be going into the freezer to pull out for birthday goodie bags later. Each day we pull a bag out for everyone to share. All leftovers are coming with me to work for the road crews to eat. I also take out all the hard candies before hand and will use them to make flavored vodka that I give to family members as Christmas gifts.

I've been known to toss it in the garbage...as a last resort if I find myself unable to resist.

Usually I donate the rest of my candy to a local organization. In my own experience this is the best solution for myself otherwise I will binge on the candy and end up with a sore stomach.

I am so struggling with the Halloween Candy. I got a lot to pass out for trick or treat because I live right beside the hospital and I figured that I would get a lot of foot traffic...but I was wrong and now I have all this delicious candy! I tell myself I am not going to eat it, but then I'm binging. Once I get to the point where I know I have blown everything, I get so defeated and say "piss on it" and just eat more. I hate it and myself for doing it! then I come to work and think I am safe because I managed to walk out of my house with only 1 Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cup in my pocket and everyone has candy bowls on their desk!! So now I have had about 6 things of candy today :(

I am a candy fanatic! skittles, sour patch, now and laters, banana laffy taffy, spice drops I love them and would rather eat that than food! As i have been maintenance for about 6 months, I put the candy in the car. So, if i vreally want it I have to go get it! I never keep it in the house!!!

I don't have kids, but I sure as heck know the temptation to dig into the ENTIRE Halloween bucket. We thankfully were able to send the rest to my husband's work for his coworkers to devour. I would say if you want to treat yourself within moderation pre-portion little bags of a few pieces for each day that fit within your caloric budget and tell yourself you get THIS amount each day and try your best to stick to it. I also like the out of sight out of mind approach. If something is hidden, I tend to move on and forget about it. I had to do this with a bag of mini powdered donuts at work today. Told my coworkers to go and hide them so I didn't dig into them! So far it's worked! :)

It's your kids candy not yours. Keep your hands off it.
Sorry. That's all I could think of

I have to log it as soon as I eat it or I will eat way too much. Logging it puts it right there in black and white. Those little suckers add up fast. I am keeping my candy stash on the dining room table because we have that room gated off to keep the dog out. that means I can't just grab it as I pass by, it has to be a deliberate trip to get it. I have been taking 2 pieces to work with me each day, which is fine. It's when I get home that the trouble can get real.

Pre-log your meals for the day and see what's left calorie wise. You may have the extra 100+ calories to use on a couple of fun-sized chocolate bars. If not, see where you can sacrifice elsewhere so you can have your treat :)

Reality is, I know that it's no good for the kids either, and I can't wait to get it out of the house. But I don't want to deprive them completely and give them food phobias. So we do a big candy sort the morning after. They each have a container to fill with their favorites. Everything else goes into baggies and out of the house. I took a huge bag of PB cups and Wunderbars over to the fire station, because they are my personal temptation - I've seen how those guys work out, and I know they can handle it! ;)

When the kids were little I would keep it in the kitchen and dole it out, but then *I* would end up eating it. So now, they keep their containers out of my sight so I don't think about it. I don't regulate it - when it's gone, it's gone.
