I am Not losing weight.Does anybody have suggestions as to why?

I am attempting to lose 100 pounds. I started a few weeks ago and I thought since I am obese (259.6 pounds according to my BMI) that I will lose a lot of weight in the beginning fast and then progressively slowed it down. I stopped eating out, drinking about 80 ounces of water a day, I exercise about 6 days a week using the body project by Daniel and yet I have not lost any weight. Does anybody else had the same issue? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Is the exercise new to you? Your muscles retain water with new exercise to repair themselves. This will mask any fat loss for awhile. Keep doing what you're doing. You'll get there!

How many calories are you eating?
Can you open your diary, maybe we can troubleshoot
Edit: Oh yes, and how recent did you start your journey?5 -
Congrats on your new journey, perfect advice above you will lose weight just make sure your doing the above.
By the way my all time high was 256 lbs it took me a year to get the hang of this and to really commit to changes, also at the same time I was going through life altering changes with my mom. So just keep in mind nothing about this may be simple amd straight forward, but you will reach your goal, goals if you stick with it and don't give up even when your having challenges.
The first year I lost 33 lbs , the first 3 months of this year I lost 20 plus pounds quickly for me because I changed things up a bit. And I'm still not at goal because a lot of times I eat at maintenance and my life is hectic but I havent regained any pounds. I'm still driven to get to my goal which is much closer than it was and I wont stop until I do. I lost weight mostly by diet, Im currently adding exercise to 4 days of the week and I get non traditional exercise on the other days.
Hope this helps with insight into the process. Best of care.3 -
Have you not lost any weight at all? If you open your diary, we may be able to help you troubleshoot.1

I agree with much of the above, but the most important thing I don't see is how many calories are you eating? Are you tracking that? Just not eating out and not drinking may not be enough.8

a few weeks is still early days. it is a marathon journey not a sprint.
have you lost any weight at all? If you added a lot of exercise there may be some water retention.
Are you weighing and logging all your food/drinks and logging properly? or guessing? You can still eat only "healthy" foods and still be eating too many calories (that is the story of my life - i eat generally healthy but a LOT and it adds up and got me back to being overweight again!)

I document everything using mynetdiary app and I always keep my calories around 2,000 calories a day. This is a lot less than I used to eat. I do about 45 minutes of cardio.0

Are you weighing and tracking *everything* that you eat? All liquids, all oils, etc?5 -

It's going to be hard for us to figure out what might be going wrong without more information. If it has been a few weeks and you haven't lost any weight, I would consider it likely that you've got some sort of logging error going on and you're actually eating more than you think you are.12 -
If you are not loosing weight, here are a few reasons it could be:
1. Not cutting enough calories.
2. Not being consistent enough with eating right each day.
3. Not giving it enough time, since it sometimes can take a few weeks to see results.
Strangely enough, I have also found I get results sometimes when I stop exercising and dieting for a few days. But, that is only after being consistent for 10 days or more.

There's a show on youtube that I love called Secret Eaters. It's real life stories of people who are trying to lose weight but just can't, and it shows a lot of the ingrained poor eating habits they've picked up that they don't even realize they have, and how those habits are standing in the way of their weight loss goals. It's worth a watch. =]
And then I second the advice to make sure you're logging absolutely everything. I've been stuck at a weight loss plateau for the better part of 2 years and then I finally invested in a digital scale and began religiously recording absolutely everything I eat (including the oil I use to cook my foods), and I've dropped 10 lbs in the last month. Be diligent, hold yourself accountable! If you find yourself thinking "well it's just a little bit...", record it anyway! If you get halfway through your day and you realize you've already recorded over 2,000 calories but you still have another meal to go, record it anyway!! We all have bad days, but you can't fix what you don't know you're doing wrong. Be honest, be diligent, and remember that even if your log is telling you you've eaten 3500 calories today, as crappy as that feels, what it's also telling you is what you're doing wrong and how you can fix it. You can't fix it if you don't know it's there. =]
Good luck!10 -
How many calories does MFP recommend you eat in order to lose weight? Are you using a food scale to weigh your food? 2000 calories may or may not be enough to create a calorie deficit for you, and if you aren’t weighing your food, you’re almost certainly eating more than you think you are.3

This happens sometimes with people who are having a "cheat" day. If you are doing that cut it out and see if you have success. Sometimes people eat alot more than they realize on that day. If you aren't doing that you need to ensure you are weighing what you eat and logging everything including fruit and veggies. If you were maintaining before on many more calories and are not losing now you must have an error in your calculations somewhere.5

Your calorie target sounds reasonable. I am 262 lb right now and eating 1800 per day (I am sedentary).
The most likely cause if you have been doing this for more than 2 weeks is logging errors (less than 2 weeks, if you started exercising, is muscles retaining water in order to repair)
1) Do you weigh all solids and semi solids (like peanut butter and mayo) and measure all liquids except water?
2) Are you finding correct entries in the database (for example boneless chicken instead of bone-in, not using someone else's homemade entry, etc)
3) Are you weighing and measuring everything before cooking and using the entries for raw?
There are others but these are the most common ways for people to eat more than they think they do.

@accountantwiz - Don't make the mistake of thinking this will necessarily happen quickly. Work to build the habit of weighing/measuring *all* food (even packaged foods) and then logging it. I started working on getting healthier and losing weight at the start of 2018, and didn't start losing weight until those 2 practices were really solid habits. I allowed 3 weeks to work on each new practice as I made changes. You may be faster, but be patient with yourself if you are not!1

I'll just drop this here, in case OP is still interested...

Nvm... I read the other comments now. Anyway, people have already listed my same advice.5

I could've written this a few months ago. I started at 250 and thought I to would lose fast since I was obese. First few weeks the scale did not budge. I was getting discouraged until I started noticing my clothes feeling looser. Sometimes we lose inches before the scale moves and that is okay, it means you are on the right track! At the end of my first month the scale suddenly made a 10lb drop. Your body is getting used to the changes give it a few more weeks. Hang in there!6

Thanks for posting this. I saved and bookmarked it.1 -
Start taking measurements, take a before photo and take progress photos every few weeks, note how your clothes are starting to fit. Even pull out a pair of pants that are far too small. That you can't button without sucking in or just can't button at all. Try it on every few weeks to see how it starts to fit.
I know we all want to see that number on the scale going down, but it doesn't always reflect the progress we're making.1 -
If you're not counting your calories, there's a really high chance that you're eating too many. The only thing necessary for weight loss is to eat fewer calories than you burn. If you're not logging, it's incredibly easy to eat way more than you think you are.3
