Hello,
Can anyone share any great abs exercises to help flatten the tummy area? I have been doing the regular abs exercises, but I'm looking for something more challenging.
Thanks

Yep. Just continue losing more weight. If you're near the bottom of a healthy weight range and still not happy, look into and get advice on recomp.9 -
As mentioned unfortunately you cannot reduce belly fat by doing ab exercises. This link is helpful.

I do a ton of planks (side planks etc) and bridges to get my belly in shape.15

Don’t drink alcohol, it really helps15

Yep, unfortunately, spot reducing isn’t possible. Do you have much weight to lose, OP? A calorie deficit is the best way to reduce fat. No exercises will help flattening things out, unfortunately. As mentioned unfortunately you cannot reduce belly fat by doing ab exercises. This link is helpful.

My stomach was my “trouble area”. I have lost a total of 53 pounds and it wasn’t until I lost the last 10 that I really noticed a significant difference there (from 140-130). It was definitely the last to go for me.
The others are right, you have to keep on and be patient until your body chooses to let it go.7 -
Your body will store weight where it wants to and isolating an area will not help in that regard. Doing exercises to strengthen the core will not reduce fat that is lingering there. In general when you lose weight, your trouble areas will come off last. For me that is the hips....I always store weight there and no amount of jogging or squats make any difference to their size. I lose the weight on the face, stomach, back before my legs and butt catch up.

Fork putdowns and table pushaways.
You lose fat by eating less calories than you burn, and spot reduction is not possible.14 -
And you might find that even if you do lose all of the weight you want to lose you still might have a little pooch at your lower abdomen, because genetics.5

You have to get your body fat % very low so your abs can show. So while its helps to work those ab muscles so they will be there for the big reveal it won't do a thing to remove the fat. That will happen through diet alone. If you are like me its the last place I lose fat and the first to to put it back on.3

Can you explain the biology behind how doing planks removes the fat stored in your midsection then? My understanding from researchers, biologists, and physiologists is that the body does not burn fat in a specific area based on your movements.16 -
While you can't spot reduce fat from any one area, you can reduce overall body fat percentages and you can work muscle groups to tighten up loose flabby areas -- try getting into the weight room and doing squats and deadlifts -- over time you will see changes in your body.3

Planks are wonderful for strengthening (increasing muscle) Abs and the core in general AND if you get your body fat below 15% you might be able to start seeing them. Yes your body will have a preference on where it prefers to store fat but short of lowering the overall % there is nothing you can do about it.2 -

LMFAO...
No exercise spot reduces fat...if it did, I would look like a Greek god by now.10 -
10 min abs by the 21 fix trainer leaves my abs fatigued every time. Google it and you can find it. As everyone has stated no exercise will spot reduce fat or excess tissue but a strong core has a few other health benefits.0

You need to incorporate an all body exercise, like running, elliptical, aerobics or like. Then once your heart rate is up work on that trouble area. You can google specific ab exercises for top, middle, and bottom. You will want to work all three, then have a slow cool down with something like walking.14

I think the whole "overall weight loss leads to losing in the belly area because there's no such thing as spot reduction" part has been well covered already, so I'm more curious about this part since strength training is still a good idea for your general health.I have been doing the regular abs exercises, but I'm looking for something more challenging.
So my question is -- what do you consider "regular abs exercises"? My "regular" could be very different than yours, and no one will know what you consider more challenging unless we know what you're doing in the first place.

I really wish it were a myth, but it's not. There's no mechanism by which targeted exercise removes fat.6 -

Then please interpret and explain the results of this peer-reviewed clinical study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21804427
