It's here....Standard Time!

I have no problem staying active during daylight savings time. I leave for work at 6am and get home around 4:30. During DLS, I have all evening to do yard work, walk the dogs, etc. Standard time is much different...I still work the same hours, but I have an hour or less of daylight once I get home. It is a constant battle not to come home, take a hot bath and go to bed - especially when it gets cold!

So - What's your secret? How do you win that battle?

Yep - the struggle is real. I have the benefit of living in a warm climate (S. Fl) so even if it's dark I can get out for a walk or quick bike ride in the dark. I do tend to use my rebounder more in the winter for when I just don't want to leave the house. Good luck.

I start going to the gym more. I do not do morning exercise, but if I have my stuff in my car, it's sort of like, "Well, it's already dark, I might as well go."

It gets light an hour earlier so why not get up and get it done then?!

Getting up at 4am....lol, I would most definitely be ready for bed when I get home! Evenings is still better...even cold dark ones.

I hear you. I'm not a morning person, so the early darkness and cold shortens the crap out of my days. I try to start one of my DVD workout programs in Nov, I leave my workout clothes and weights out and I change and workout as soon as I get home, then eat dinner. Well, some times that works lol.

Honestly I was happy to just maintain or lose 1 lb or 2 over the winter when I was dieting. I lost probably 90% of the weight I lost in the warmer months. Luckily I'm a patient girl

I hate it. Cabin fever is driving me nuts.

I have a home treadmill. Doesn't bother me. What does bother me is we forgot about it on Saturday. I woke up to my alarm yesterday morning as usual and was puttering around the house and then after about 45 minutes looked down at my Fitbit and was in for a surprise (it had automatically adjusted for the time change). I could have slept another hour!

I prefer standard time. Darkness doesn't bother me. I exercise at home and rarely go outside.

My secret is Vitamin D & Caffeine. I am much the same once the darker nights start drawing in, but since I started taking Vitamin D most days and having half a caffeine pill around 3pm (I don't drink tea/coffee/energy drinks) on days when my energy levels drop mid-afternoon I actually love working out on the darker nights.

I also leave my running gear out ready so that it's just staring at me from the second I get in, so I change straight into it, rather than sitting down, because if I sit down, the sofa and fleecy blanket WILL swallow me whole and I won't escape for the evening!

Me, too. Here in Canada in the winter, sometimes just trying to go for a walk risks life and limb! I just turn on the TV, hop on the treadmill and git er dun!

This will be my plan...Pick a show and start at season one! Only watch it from the weight room.

I am totally opposite! I work in an office all day with no windows to outdoors. When I get home, I want....I NEED to be outside! My husband on the other hand, works primarily outdoors and prefers to be inside when he gets home. Many times in the summer, you will find me mowing the yard and he will do dishes or laundry. I love him! ♥

I, too, will be relying on my home gym, but I feel your pain. I waited six months for it to be cool enough for outdoor activities and now they take away my daylight. :disappointed:

I am fortunate enough to be able to flex my hours within reason. It still is too cold for outside activities sometimes and I have started going to the gym very early in the AM. I also have a TRX clone at home.

There's only so much you can do. Short days are short days. I end up saving as much of the work/chores/etc. as possible for the weekends when I have more time, and use my lunch breaks during the week to get some sanity time outdoors.

I try to use my home treadmill more to make up for the walks I'm missing out on. I guess it's not so bad as far as making me miss out on exercise, but I just miss the daylight. I wish it was always DLS...
Unfortunately the extra daylight in the morning isn't helpful for me since it still isn't light outside early enough to take a walk in the morning and be back before the DH has to go to work or be back in time for me to be able to get ready and get to work on time (can't leave the kids alone).
Just one of the many reasons why summer kicks winter's kitten, IMHO

No kids at our house but we have 3 labs. Try getting up “quietly” and not disrupting them! And in turn, my husband!

Christmas lights will be up soon before you know it so you won’t have to worry about the dark 😉, go for a run and enjoy looking at all the decorations and the nice cold weather!

The root problem is not the clock. At my latitude (NC), it's going from over 14 hours of daylight to under 10 that's the problem.

    Dang wobbly Earth!

That's true. Shorter days are just shorter days, no matter how you arrange them!

I guess it's just a non-issue for me. I will run outside whether it's cold or dark. I will also hike and snowshoe. I actually love that the trails are less packed and that I sweat a bit less. I also belong to a gym so that gives even more options.

    Monday - Gym
    Tuesday - Indoor bike trainer
    Wednesday - Indoor bike trainer
    Thursday - Gym
Friday - I can usually knock off a little early and get a good 45-60 minute ride in after work
Saturday - Gym AM; ride in the afternoon
    Sunday - morning ride

Weekdays can be tough with the darkness and the indoor trainer isn't my favorite thing, but I make myself do it. It can get cold here, but our winters for the most part mild and relatively short...it's sunny most of the time, even if it's cold, so I can still usually get out and ride outside on weekends.

I've started making my "extra" steps just part of my routine, regardless of the weather, light out, whatever.

And I get up for the gym before work anyways, so that's not a huge deal.

Set it up so it doesn't affect my life too much - yes, it sucks coming home in the dark, but it's just "the routine."
