I had one middle name. My middle name is now my previous first and middle name ... hyphenated ... which apparently still only counts as one

In a lot of spanish cultures you take on names from both your mother and fathers side, along with a first name and middle

In Spain we usually have a name and two last names (2 last names are required by law, one comes from your father, the other from your mother). It’s not common to give your kid a middle name, and when you do you usually call him/her by the two names, as if they were only one.
But lots of people who were born during the Franco dictatorship have two names, as they were required to have the name of a saint, or to be called ‘María’ if they were women. In some cases the civil servant at the register office or the priest (who could also register babies, when they were baptised) added these religious names without even consulting the parents. One of my coworkers discovered that the priest had added ‘María Inmaculada’ to her first name on her wedding day :/

I went on some dates with this girl and when we started talking we played "Guess my middle name" for like two hours and then she was like "i don't have a middle name"
I have two. So I’m not odd :smirk:

I was gonna say my cousin has two middle names and he is STILL odd

I have a middle name. When I was younger I always wished my middle name was my first name. Most of my family members call me by my middle name. Aside from that, I don't really use it unless it's for government use.

My family has a tradition where the first born male's middle name is the father's first name...2nd male child's middle name would be the first name of the father's grandfather (on the father's side).

So, like my great grandfather's name was Harold...my grandfather's name was Richard Harold...my dad's name was Steven Richard...my name is Christopher Steven...my eldest is Liam Christopher...my youngest is Henry Richard.

Unfortunately, I have 3 middle names, except that I'd had to inform family that I'd much prefer one middle name, my maternal grandmother's surname, to keep her alive.

My middle name is the same as my mother's middle name. Her first name came from her grandfather and middle name from her grandmother. My cousin has the same middle name. My mom's cousin has a version of it for her first name. My dad's second wife had the name for a first name. It kind of feels too shared at this point.
When it came time to name my child we decided no family names and something unique for first name as we both had very common first names. Dh didn't want a middle name but I pushed for it so if dd didn't care to go by her first name she could use her middle name.
My grandmother hated her first name and went by her middle name her whole life.
