Did losing weight let you wear heels?

I'm at a BMI of 20.5 and I don't like to wear heels no matter what weight I am. Looks good, but not comfortable at all.4

I've dropped 93lbs and have gone from wearing small heels for a maximum of around an hour to 3-inch block heels for the entirety of every wedding I go to (and I love to dance!)
It's the best feeling - I have heels in the back of my wardrobe that I thought would never see the light of day again!6 -
I stopped wearing heels for a number of years as I was just too heavy and they made my feet ache after only a short time. After losing 40lbs I do feel that I can wear them for longer, but I also discovered a trick of taping your 3rd and 4th toes together. Apparently it stops pressure or tension on a nerve or something that goes to the ball of your foot, helping to prevent pain. I think it does work and I hope that the more weight I lose, the longer I can wear them as I love Irregular Choice shoes and have so many pairs just waiting to jump out of their boxes!6

My SO is about 1 inch taller than me so I look forward to matching or being taller hehe
I took the plunge and bought some gorgeous dressy heels off ebay for my holiday at the end of the month, they are surprisingly comfortable (and cheap ) I ordered my normal size but now that I've lost weight they are loose!
I've ordered some heel grips so hoping that will fix them.6 -
I love heels, and wore heels very often even while being overweight. I still wear them often. This thread just gives me more motivation to lose weight xD6

Losing weight has definitely improved my balance. Also, the wearing of heels tends to put more weight on smaller regions of the foot, so losing weight should be helpful in that regard as well. Overall, I'd expect it to be easier to wear heels at a lighter weight, for sure.
That said, I've refused to wear heels since I was around 30 (well over 3 decades ago). Curmudgeon that I am, I look at them as impairing functioning (harder to run!) and health in the interests of beauty; appearance is just not imporant enough to me to make that trade-off. I understand that we swim in a cultural context, and each of us makes her own trade-offs. I'm explicitly not criticizing or disrespecting women who have other views, or make other choices. You gotta be you: It's one key source of your independence and power.
No, I'm not tall. Or short. I'm 5'5". Also old and grumpy.10 -
I just love my heels. I can’t tell you how happy this topic has made me. I cannot wait to back in my heels. Another reason added to the “Don’t quit because.....” list I have on my fridge.4

One thing I’m really enjoying about losing weight is the fashion options. I’ve lost 45lbs and I feel like I’m starting to develop a style rather than just covering my body to go places. Lots of plus size people have impeccable fashion, but I wasn’t one of them. Clothes weren’t really fun for me until now.
I got a cute pair of heels today second hand from a friend (I never even try heels on in stores because I know they’re Not For Me) and I noticed I could walk better than I remembered. Still not easily, but not death!
That got me wondering if losing more weight will make it easier, so I thought I’d ask and see what people have experienced!
Definitely. I haven't lost a huge amount of weight, so I think it's down to doing strength training and actually having some muscles in my legs now1 -
No.
They are torture devices.3 -
I'm not wearing stiletto type heels. But I do wear a mid-heel to work almost every day. They don't bother my feet. These are what I'm wearing today and are pretty typical of my style. No pointy toes or 4-inch heels Just something to help a 5'2 girl out. Plus, cute! Luckily running isn't something I'm likely to have to do at work.
But I'd never blame somebody for choosing to wear flats. I have ballet flats and they are without a doubt the most comfortable shoes on Earth.

Thank you! I ordered them from ModCloth.3

Cute shoes!
This 5'2" girl takes all the help she can get and regularly wears 4" heels often pointed toe stilettos. They happen to be what I like
These are today's shoes - rounded toe, fairly narrow 4" heel though not quite what I think of as stiletto

I didn't wear heels often before, but after losing 80 lbs I've given up on heels altogether...
Too hard to get my daily steps up in!

No...weak ankles (stupid genetics!)3

I haven't worn heels in years because my balance isn't too good, and my knees needed replacing. I may try some again soon. BUT, the cute little ankle-high rainboots that I couldn't fit into, now fit just perfectly, as do my warm winter zip-up boots. I never realized my feet were fat, or that I would lose weight in my feet just in time for the crummy weather that has arrived!2

My arthritis hits my feet pretty badly. Heels and I aren't friends. I put on a pair of dressy wedge sandals for my niece's wedding and did okay in them, but other than that?
Nope.1
