If it makes you feel any better, the other day a guy at my gym let out a loud long fart while deadlifting (I go to a small gym). You're good in terms of embarrassment.
I was doing weighted pull-ups yesterday. Right behind the normal pull-up bars is an assisted pull-up machine and there was a trainer there with her client and I heard them talking about how what I was doing was very "advanced". I was about to end my set at that point but the compliment made me push for an extra couple of reps... well, I should of quit when I was ahead. I ripped one that the entire gym probably heard but I'm positive the trainer and her client definitely heard. I dropped to the ground and that's when I noticed the client. Very attractive younger lady - she had a shocked look on her face. "Advanced".... indeed.
I was nice and pretended I didn't hear it. But I can't imagine he thinks I didn't considering I don't wear headphones at the gym and was nearby.1 -

in my yoga class, i often mention "farts happen" so it's a little less embarrassing. you can't squish things and not expect air to come out4 -
i, too, enjoyed reading these so will come forth with my own. had been at local gym for a few months, long enough to have a routine and feel like i knew what i was doing. switched up my routine and moved my declined bench press to the later part of my workout. put on my usual load, did a few reps and had bar come crashing down on my chest, then roll up to my throat. i had lifted this weight for several gym sessions prior but changing the order of my routine made it so that my muscles were more tired when i got to bench press time. so bar crashes down on my chest, i cant lift it an inch, then rolls up to start crushing my throat. can't ask for help bc throat is being crushed. luckily, someone stronger than me saw, came over and lifted bar off my throat. seemed like a long time until that happened tho. lesson learned, if changing up order, adjust weights accordingly.
second event... gym had cardio on upper level and weights on lower level. two sets of stairs, one towards front of gym one towards back. part of my normal routine was to "run the stairs," Id run up one set of stairs, walk across the length of gym, then run down next set of stairs, then walk length of gym to original set of stairs. its actually one of the only things i miss about not going to gym. i would only do this routine when gym wasn't too crowded and often fell going up the stairs, usually only when attractive women were in the area to see me.
last event, was on elliptical. head phones in, but not synced to my phone, so phone was playing my music on speaker phone at loud enough volume for me to think it was coming thru my headphones. went with eminem that session and had all types of curses and stuff coming out of my phone. no one said anything and i realized it when i went to get a paper towel to wipe down the machine and heard the music getting less and less loud as i walked away from my phone.
overall, not as bad as some of what i've read here.12 -

You are in good company, Stefi Cohen's 507 lb record deadlift left a bit of a puddle behind. The lift was too epic to care about a bit of pee.3 -

No, it was a learning experience. You learned that you cannot “tough out” low blood sugar. It’s actually a very useful thing to know.6

I was going around a couple of walkers that were taking up most of the space on a bike/walk trail on my bike and my tire slipped off the metal lip on the side of the path and I wiped out right in front of them. Tore my knee up on the metal. Blood everywhere.
I dropped a 45lb plate on my foot in the gym and fractured my foot. Shouted the F word across the whole gym.
My right big toenail is still growing out from the last time I did that. I didn't break any bones, though.
OMG. I'm so cautious when I pull the heavy plates off the rack because I'm so scared of this happening. Ouch. I did pinch my finger once between two of the plates when I was putting them back up on the rack and that even hurt quite a bit lol1 -
I was riding a metric century a few years back and at about mile 57/92km. I'd stopped at a local port-a-potty on the trail and was getting back on my bike and I just fell over, still clipped in. I had gotten light headed and lost my balance. It's always like a cartoon. Feels like slow motion, but there is nothing you can do when your body is committed to the fall.
Fortunately it was in grass, not on pavement, and there were other people around. I decided to lie there for about 5-10 minutes, still clipped in.
I ate a granola bar and drank a half bottle of gatorade until the world stopped spinning.
When I was about 3 miles/5km from finishing, I saw a woman, a small child and a cat walking on the trail. I had to stop as I thought I was seeing things. The woman stopped and I asked if she was taking her cat for a walk as I'd never seen such a thing. She told me that it was a neighborhood cat and when they go for walks on the trail, the cat tags along.
I'd seen people walking dogs, but never in my 50 something years of life had I seen such a thing. After my fall and unscheduled rest break about 15-20 minutes prior, I thought for sure I was seeing things again.
I completed the ride without further drama and ate two bananas I'd left in the cooler in my car and a bottle of chocolate milk as a post ride recovery drink.6 -
My dog tripped me when walking her on a walking path, and then ran off to go sniff another dog, dragging me along the path with her. My knee was so scratched up it took about a month to heal. This was in front of like 30 people because there were a bunch of parents camped out on the path during a football practice. I'm still bitter about that one. Lol.

I love this thread. I just wanted to say that because I can't think of one to contribute (unless I've blocked it out), but what I'm learning is that not having such a story is probably a sign I'm not trying hard enough. For example, I didn't know that the cartoonish treadmill wipeouts were a real thing and always thought those magnetic string things that automatically turn off the machine were overkill. But that turns out to be because I mainly just walk on them, and nothing more strenuous.

I keep doing this at work!! We have two floors. On my floor the Women's is on the left and the men's on the right. Well someone had the bright idea to switch them on the other floor. So twice now when I've been down there I've walked right into the men's restroom on autopilot.2 -

Meet me last week at the gym. It hadn't occurred to me that if I'm running a long-run on the treadmill, I needed to fuel like I do when I do a long-run outside.
I started feeling odd, like I was hypoglycemic (I'm a type 1 diabetic), around miles 5-6ish. I was planning on doing a 7-mile run. My glucose sensor had died mid-run, so I *thought* I was hypo. Get off the treadmill after I finish mile 7, and hypo-like-drunk-walk my way to the locker room. Test. Blood sugar is perfectly normal.
It occurred to me that when you eat lower carb, and don't have a lot of glycogen stored anyway, your body needs a mid-run fuel just as much inside as it does outside. So there I am, sitting on a bench in the locker room, sweatpants down around my hips -- I couldn't figure out how to get them up further -- wolfing down jelly beans that I keep in my bag for hypos, and wondering if it would be OK to just put my field coat on over my sports bra, because I couldn't figure out how to get my shirt on.7 -
I've tried and fallen downhill while walking the dog. Twice. I also, 20 miles into a half century while at least ten miles from my car, fallen off my bike. I was ok a paved bike path, accidentally went off the path a little, went down and hit my knee enough that I bled a good bit. I was actually nervous that I had sprained my ankle. An older woman biking the opposite direction who had seen the whole thing, kindly told me I was going to be fine and to just lay there for a minute. She was right, and I did lay there contemplating whether or not to turn back. I finished the ride because she used some kind of Grandma magic on me and I owed it to her.7

Be careful those of you with diabetes and blood sugar issues. I was life guarding once and the gym was dead that day except for a lady who had been in the pool for hours on end. She finally got out of the pool and as she was walking to the locker room completely collapsed. I thought she had a heart attack or something, it was just like our mock scenarios in training. I was glad she didn’t black out in the pool. Apparently she was diabetic, didn’t eat dinner the night before, and skipped breakfast (and was swimming for hours). When she came to I found these things out, and she also didn’t have any meds or anything on her. Lucky she was okay and I had some glucose tabs on me.. I don’t know why she thought that all was a good idea. She was really embarrassed, I was just glad she was alive.2

I had to actually lie down on the mat at the end of yoga class last week. The room was crowded and hot and all of a sudden, everything started spinning. The instructor had to help me out of the room.2 -
Love reading these stories.
Today I went hiking in fresh snow about 9" deep. Didn't bring snowshoes or micro spikes - total newb mistake although I've hiked over 20 years. I hit a slick spot on the trail, fell sideways. My hip hit a big rock. Now I'm in bed nursing an injured hip. I have no idea how many others saw. Slightly embarrassing but totally lucky the injury wasn't worse.1 -

My most embarrassing moment....it was leg day, wore the wrong pants... doing jump squats and BAM! I ripped my pants, my butt was exposed 🤦🏽♀️ I put my sweat towel around my waist & walked right out that gym !8

Yes, flying off the treadmill is a real thing. No, it's not just in the cartoons. I was running on it and had a towel hanging on the front of it. It slipped off and instead of just letting it drop on my feet I tried to hop out of the way and took a ride off the end on my butt.
Last weekend during a class we were lifting the barbell over our heads. (Push presses if I recall) Well I hit my nose very hard with the bar. But that was not the embarrassing part. I could not help myself and hollered out "Ouch, mother f
er, that hurt!" Not very lady-like I admit.7 -
I'm starting to grunt and drop the barbell when I'm deadlifting heavy, nah I'm not embarrassed, it's only natural to strain and moan when you're trying to move a ton of weight up and down. Go hard or go home I actually just joined the gym three months ago for the first time in my life and had no access to barbell. Dropping the weight ? Guilty. It's pretty hard to maintain my grip on weights in excess of 300 pounds so it slips, it's heavy. Not all the time though!0

My wife and I were working out together, and when I was doing my barbell rows I hear her say "Oh Honey!". I asked what was up and she said "I can see your undies through your shorts, went with the stripes today eh?". I think she said it loud enough for others nearby to overhear, because I then heard some giggling. I decided that 2 sets of rows was enough for that day.7

I stood up fast and beaned my head on the barbell. Everything went dark for a second. Fortunately, I was as home and only the dog saw me but I was still feeling pretty stupid. Now I always give a wide berth to the squat rack when I bend over near it even when the bar isn't on it.1

I learned to always pack extra lady items in my gym bag. That came thanks to a heavy deadlift on day 2 of TOM.
Other embarrassing things that I've done at the gym.
1. Smashed multiple fingers multiple times with plates
2. Dropped a barbell on my foot
3. Exposed myself unknowingly...multiple times
4. Almost crushed myself while doing bench press without a spotter. A young good looking guy saved me
I'm sure there are more, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.3 -
This is a great thread! I'm pretty new to gym life and this is weirdly encouraging, somehow. (Also somewhat instructional.)
I was in a class where we were using a step. I apparently didn't lift my foot high enough and caught my shoe on the grips on the step and I went flying off sideways. Thankfully, I went in a direction where nobody was standing, and my instructor told me I looked very graceful.8
