I’m starting properly on here as an ex slimming worlder but just finding that it isn’t sustainable for me anymore. I’m looking for some simple and relatively cheap meal ideas as I have a five month old baby so am strapped for time and also on maternity pay so I can’t really afford expensive food shopping.
Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated xx

Hi. Well, today I made a simple and delicious soup that is also cheap. Start by frying some onions and garlic on a pan. Then I used homemade tomato sauce (for broth) that I'd made and frozen but you can also just do water and soup base concentrate. Add some tomato paste for more flavor. Chop up celery, carrots, and cabbage. And add some fennel and/or caraway seeds ( ground), cumin, bay leaf and a splash of brag's aminos (soy sauce substitute) or just salt and pepper. That's pretty much it. Yum. Just chop and let simmer for 20 min, then let sit for at least an hour for the flavors to come out. Optionally you can add potatoes, herbs, or even noodles to this. Just an idea :) I'm full of ideas. Just give me a few ingredient and I can probably come up with something good. Message me any time.

Brilliant idea thank you.. how do you work out the calories for it all is it literally totalled up from every ingredient then divided by how many portions you get?

You can use the recipe builder function in the app - input all the ingredients and number of portions - the app will calculate the calories and macros for you.

Soups/stews/curries all can be thrown together pretty easily and cheaply - lots of veg plus whatever meat/stock some herbs/seasoning etc in a slow cooker.

Roasted veg are tasty, add a splash of balsamic vinegar when cooking and they take on really great flavour.

Also stir frys are quick and easy.

Also check out the Food and Nutrition section on here for other recipes and ideas.
