I've been really trying for 2 weeks now, I'm walking 3-4 miles every morning and staying well under my calorie allowance, but both weeks I've actually gained weight!!! I'm using a Fitbit, which gives me a lot of extra calories when I exercise, (sometimes I feel too many), but I'm staying well under the extra calories,, what more can I do? Help!!

Give it 4-6 weeks before worrying. Sometimes the process kicks in right away, and other times other issues mask the fat loss (water weight from TOM etc.)

How are you measuring your calories? Weighing food or eyeballing? Using cups for liquids only or cups for solid foods?5

That.
If you weren't walking for exercise before, that may be enough to add some extra water weight for muscle repair.
Water weight isn't fat, it won't keep increasing, its fluctuation is part of healthy body function . . . so try not to let it worry you until you've given your new routine a full menstrual cycle plus a bit. After a while, if fat loss is happening, it will outpace the water weight, and/or the water weight will fluctuate downward again.
Hang in there!2 -
2 weeks isn't long enough to say it isn't working.
Are you due on your period?1 -
I've recently had a full hysterectomy so no TOTM anymore0

How recently?1 -
@christinekojack your hysterectomy could be the culprit, you could be going into menopause....0

how far under calories are you eating? of course that isnt the cause but you are supposed to eat to your calorie goal and eat back at least some of your exercise calories. But I agree with the others give it some time. are you weighing EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth or just some things? just a question as many say they are weighing everything but dont count certain things like oils, little bites of things and so on.0 -
I use a fit bit, I don't really like how it gives you cals back for all the steps you take, do I try just to use half the exercise cals!0

You can unlink the step counter for fitbit with MFP. That what I did because I also didn't like that it added kcals.
Oh and I believe that unless you have your fitbit set up to lose weight as well, then it'll add calories up to maintenance level. I might be wrong on this front, like I said, mine isn't linked to adjust, but I'm sure I read somewhere that that was the case.2 -
calories are complicated. Nutrition labels and weighing measuring are a must so that you have a really good idea as to what your intake is. As far as burning calories, electronic devices simply cannot be trusted entirely...does it account for your age, sex and weight? if it doesn't then it's garbage.
Additionally look at your sodium consumption. high sodium creates water retention. Plus, when do you weigh yourself? Believe it or not (try it yourself) your weight can fluctuate throughout the day as much as 10 lbs.!!
and finally 2 weeks isn't enough time to gauge weight loss. sustained weight loss and maintenance is a long term thing....2 -

I found that by setting myself to sedentary and syncing my Fitbit (making sure my settings, goals, and profile stats were the same on both apps), enabling the negative calorie adjustment, my calories were pretty close to spot on. Maybe a touch too high. Your MFP goal has your deficit even if you do zero exercise, so you should only eat your original MFP goal if you literally sit and do nothing all day.
Depending on how recently your hysterectomy was, it can take several weeks for your body to recover from surgery. Regardless, if you feel confident your logging is accurate and can't be tightened up, you really need to give it at least 4 weeks, before deciding if it's working or not. If at that point you are still treading water, maybe consider temporarily making your diary public. Sometimes fresh eyes can catch something you aren't seeing. Hang in there!6 -

Did they also remove your ovaries? If not then TOTM weight gain is still possible. The gains are from hormones which your ovaries will still be releasing. My wife had a hysterectomy and still gets PMS.1 -
Yes, everything's gone, so no TOTM1

Look into Dr Becky Gillaspy’s 0123 method. She has tons of videos on YouTube. You may be insulin resistant in which case a different way of eating may help. I’ve done really well in this. Started losing right away and am never hungry. Have kept with it for almost four months and don’t miss anything. Google it. Good luck going forward.7
