Hey People - just started a diet with a great gym workout.
So working out 3 times per week on Strength training and 3 times on Cardio! Loving it - full of energy.
So I’m a vegetarian but trying to go vegan. Any helpful tips you have would be hugely appreciated.
I try to eat fruit veg and lentils most days. Anything else you could recommend to eat?
Preferably I would like to keep my fats down and my protein high with a balanced amount of carbs. I need advice on when to eat the carbs also - like sweet potatoes and how much of it.
Any tips and tricks would be highly appreciated 😎

Eat the carbs whenever you feel like. I eat carbs every meal.
Maybe other types of legumes, nuts, seeds, pasta, rice, plant-based milks fortified with calcium... If you are okay with soy, you have tofu, tempeh, textured vegetable protein, and mock meats which are high in protein.0 -
Lifting running vegan here. Potatoes are my jam. And beans. As long as I feel good, I don’t sweat macros.1

Eat carbohydrates whenever you'd like to eat them and in the quantities that meet your calorie/nutritional goals. I personally never have a meal without carbohydrates -- it just wouldn't be possible as a vegan unless you were doing something like chugging olive oil.
In addition to fruits, vegetables, and lentils, vegans also eat seeds/nuts, other legumes (like chickpeas or black beans), plant milks, tofu, tempeh, grains, and seitan.2 -
Don't overthink it at first. I went from carnivore to vegan and I struggled. Think about the foods you love and eat their veganized version. Then, as your taste buds change, start experimenting. It is really all about switching gears mentally and, sometimes, changing your taste buds.0

Ovo-lacto vegetarian who cooks a lot of vegan recipes. I focus on three elements: calories, protein, and iron. I let the rest fall where it falls, which tends to be a little higher on carbs and a little lower on fat (to be clear: not low fat, just lower. MFP default macro split has me on 30% fat. I'm probably around 22-25% most days.)0
