Still in the honeymoon phase...

I am new to this site but not new to the challenge of losing weight. My weight has been (mostly) up and down my whole life. I am hoping that this time I have found the "lifestyle change" (I dread that phrase) that will work for me. I am excited about this site and the changes I am making in my life. My challenge is that right now I am in the honeymoon phase of this change. I am sure you all know what I am talking about. You get super excited and do well with eating and exercise for the first few days or even weeks and then slowly things start to creep back in. Last night while I was trying to fall asleep I was thinking about incorporating a cheat day into my program like I did when I tried Body for Life. Then the thoughts about all the "bad" food crept into my head. I realized how much food has a hold on me. I love food. As my high school French teacher would say "I live to eat, not eat to live." It is hard to think of eating as a way of just sustaining life that I cannot eat just for taste anymore.
All of that being said I am still super pumped about this new change and hopefully breaking the hold that food has over me.
I've always looked at thin people and thought wouldn't it be nice or I wish I looked like them. There are a lot of thin people who don't have to do anything to be that way and they can eat anything they want. My husband is one of those people. He can eat a box of cookies and not gain an ounce, I look at a cookie and I gain 5 pounds! It's not fair! It is so frustrating when there aren't people around you that understand. My husband is encouraging of my weight loss but he just doesn't get it. I hope to find new friends on here so that we can keep each other motivated to reach our goals and be the people we always had hoped we could be. Ok well we already are the people we could be because we are pretty amazing (I hate the stigmas attached to "fat" people we're just as amazing as everyone else - It took me a long time to realize that) but I just want to be less of a person...oh wait that came out wrong Yes, most importantly I want to be healthy but I also would like to fit into a single digit pant size one day or just to be able to buy my clothes in a regular store. Can I get an amen?!
But seriously, I hope through motivating and being motivated that we can finally attain the goals we want. Not for others but for ourselves.

Welcome to MFP! I really love the site and the encouragement that I receive from the other members. I have a significant amount of weight to lose and I will do it with the support I have here. I've been on since June and am amazed at what I have learned about myself and my relationship with food.
Feel free to add me as a friend0 -
Amen sister, from someone who has been there. It is so nice to buy regular clothes! IMHO this website's greatest tool is that button on the food diary page that at the end of the day gives you that boost to continue.....if every day were like today, you will weigh_____ in 5 weeks. Love seeing that number go down. I started with WW but enjoy this site so much more. Only 4 pounds left to lose:)0

Hey there!
I'm new to this site as well and think it's going to one the key components to my success. I had some success with Body for Life too. I am currently doing P90X. I have been the same yoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyo gainer/loser since I can remember. I am looking at it like this though; I need to embrace a new way of looking at food and exercise. It has always been All or Nothing. Totally in or nothing. My lifestyle has to change but I've got to do it in a way that doesn't seem like a drastic change all at once.
So, just keep showing up here, find an exercise you like and take it one day at a time.
Bless you and your day,
Chuck0 -
I love this! My husband is the same way...he's very supportive but doesn't get the struggle. Like you I've been up and down so many times!! And not only is my hubby as skinny as can be but his mom is too and I see her almost daily! I get very jealous and feel as though I'm being criticized by anyone skinnier than me! When I'm in a crowd I find myself doing a search around to see if I'm the biggest one there. MFP has really helped me stay on track! Even if I eat junk food I record it and see how much it changes my calories for the day. Today is my 11th day and it's great...I have had 3 really bad days out of the 11...but hey...you pick up and do better the next day! Best of luck to you!0

First of all: WELCOME! Secondly, here is your' Amen'. I feel the same way you do, food has controlled my life. But now I use it in to my advantage; I am planning on the good things to eat. I use the food log and research items before making a decision. I still indulge in the 'bad' foods, but in controlled portions. I exercise to add some calories to my day if I want to have a little extra.
Good luck!0 -
oh yeah...and AMEN to shopping in the normal section! I've always wanted to wear a single digit size too...but my hips are too wide even when I'm skinny!0

The whole all in or nothing NEVER worked for me. I actually on a new plan called the Lora (that’s my real name) plan. I may not be doing things completely traditional and I may not be perfect in my food choices or exercise but I think this way I'll actually stick to it. I don't know where it will lead to and even if it takes awhile longer I think it will be ok. I just feel better and that is all I can ask for. So far as exercise the in "Lora" (ha ha that still makes me laugh) plan I've started doing the high intensity interval cardio training. I like that the article I read recommends you do it every OTHER day! I used to feel bad because I honestly didn't want to go to the gym EVERY day. I would feel guilty and bad about it and it would make everything worse. Now that I've started this work out I feel better about it and now I crave going to the gym more. I've also incorporated yin yoga into my plan. It helps keep me stretched out and gives me a sense of balance in my crazy life.0
